What song did you walk down the aisle to?

My DD is getting married next year and we have been discussing songs for her to walk down the aisle to.

She is quite 'alternative' and not at all 'soppy' (her words not mine!) and doesn't want anything too lovey dovey.

So what did you chose and why? I may get some sneaky good ideas for her 😜

For reference when I married my DH I walked down to Chaka Khan 'Love Me Still'

I had Trumpet Voluntary by Purcell, very popular 40-odd years ago.
My nephew and his wife walked in to Somebody to Love by Queen, it was lovely.

I left to the Trumpet Voluntary played by my friends dad.

Theme from Gladiator which was our absolute favourite film at the time

DH suggested ‘whoops I did it again’ as it wasn’t my first marriage - what a wag, but we went for Kashmir (instrumental version ).

Just the traditional wedding March, apparently my suggestion of highway to hell wasn’t considered appropriate

Up to the arrival of the Queen of Sheba.
Down to the prince of Denmark.

No secular music allowed in our church. I didn’t mind, I’m not religious but I love a hymn. I had Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring sung by a choir.

DurinsBane · 30/03/2026 18:45

The bridal chorus

PinkNeonSign · 30/03/2026 18:45

We had the Lily Allen version of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’

I quite like the violin version of Taylor Swift Wildest Dreams if I was doing it again now, or maybe Take Over the World by Courteeners.

Annie’s Song

And vice versa @JumpinJehoshaphat no religious music allowed in a secular ceremony!

So I tried arguing Pachelbel was cultural rather than religious, but they weren't having it! So a lot of classical pieces are ruled out.

Piano version of Can't help falling in love with you for me

Ahh! That’s so sweet. A lovely song.

Jaq27 · 30/03/2026 18:49

Chelsea Register office so we had music - 'Dance of The Knights' from Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet.
Still makes my spine tingle nearly 35 years later. And I got married in black like a true goth :)

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2026 18:49

I do I do I do ‘reminds me of my favorite film ‘ Muriel’s wedding ‘ when she walked in to it! It’s a classic song and very apt.

We forgot about music for the ceremony! We just had some kind of classical strings cd the Registrar had. Our first dance was My Baby Just Cares for Me - Nina Simone
