What song did you walk down the aisle to?

My DD is getting married next year and we have been discussing songs for her to walk down the aisle to.

She is quite 'alternative' and not at all 'soppy' (her words not mine!) and doesn't want anything too lovey dovey.

So what did you chose and why? I may get some sneaky good ideas for her 😜

For reference when I married my DH I walked down to Chaka Khan 'Love Me Still'

Never been to a wedding which had Here Comes The Bride.

Same. And we’re a family of musicians that have played hundreds of weddings!

Tequilamockinbird · 30/03/2026 18:58

Annie’s Song, John Denver

Cotswoldmama · 30/03/2026 18:59

Clair de lune

“Think of Me” from Phantom. Played on the harp and very much in the background. It was a short walk and I ended making my DH walk up with me.

My sister is a harpist and got asked for “On My Own” from Les Mis once! 😂😂😂

I’m surprised that people haven’t heard ‘ here comes the bride’ at a wedding. I guess a lot changed in the 90s and when people could get married wherever they wanted to , it probably changed a lot of the dynamics around the music you had and so on.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 30/03/2026 19:00

court house? Nothing.

wedding mass? Not sure yet. But we will be accompanied by our piper (on smallpipes). We’d prefer something classic (and definitely instrumental) but we haven’t decided yet 😅

And vice versa @JumpinJehoshaphat no religious music allowed in a secular ceremony!

So I tried arguing Pachelbel was cultural rather than religious, but they weren't having it! So a lot of classical pieces are ruled out.

Piano version of Can't help falling in love with you for me

How can the instrumental be deemed religious?!

Me too I had it 32 years ago and would have it again

DS plays in a classical guitar ensemble who do an arrangement of Pachabel’s cannon that segues into Memory by Maroon 5. It’s lovely.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/03/2026 19:03

Chicago by The Staves

Allseeingallknowing · 30/03/2026 19:04

My granddaughter walked down the aisle to music from Lord of the Rings. Beautiful and moving.

RedRec · 30/03/2026 19:05

The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.

Do you mean the piece by Wagner? That isn’t necessarily appropriate in some religious settings either, seeing as it was written for an opera and is distinctly secular.

PropertyD · 30/03/2026 19:07

Kenny Gee

LittleGreenDuck · 30/03/2026 19:08

I had Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. A friend had Raindrops from Jupiter by Train, which worked well.

soddingspiderseason · 30/03/2026 19:08

My Girl, Otis Redding.

ThatLimeBiscuit · 30/03/2026 19:08

Not married but I think Ludovico Einaudi would be lovely to walk down the aisle to - probably I Giorgni.

Cravey · 30/03/2026 19:11

John Denver and Pavarotti, perhaps love.

Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 30/03/2026 19:11

Haven't a notion, it was 37 years ago. The morning of the wedding I remember someone asked what our songs were and we both looked at each other blankly. When young family members ask us the same question these days as they plan their weddings, we're equally baffled. There's so much planning and organizing these days, we just went with the flow.

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 30/03/2026 19:12

Traditional church wedding, and walked down the aisle to The Prince of Denmark’s March (Trumpet Voluntary) composed by Jeremiah Clarke.

We walked out to the traditional Wedding March (Mendelssohn).

RinielUrban · 30/03/2026 19:14

we had the theme to
the princess bride
such beautiful music then on the way out we had
The Cure it’s Friday I’m in love

Beehivebabe · 30/03/2026 19:15

Truly madly deeply by Savage Garden

Nannydoodles · 30/03/2026 19:19

My last wedding (2nd) was in a farm orchard on a lovely sunny summers day and we had Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy - beautiful!

bumblebeessarecool · 30/03/2026 19:19

I had Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone. Love that piece of music

soupmaker · 30/03/2026 19:20

In to Let There Be Love, by Nat King Cole.

Out to Bring Me Sunshine by Eric & Ernie.

Oh that’s a great choice. DH suggested we use The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, I vetoed that!
