What song did you walk down the aisle to?

My DD is getting married next year and we have been discussing songs for her to walk down the aisle to.

She is quite 'alternative' and not at all 'soppy' (her words not mine!) and doesn't want anything too lovey dovey.

So what did you chose and why? I may get some sneaky good ideas for her 😜

For reference when I married my DH I walked down to Chaka Khan 'Love Me Still'

Thank You- Led Zeppelin

If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
If mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
Kind woman, I give you my all
Kind woman, nothing more
Cold drops of rain whisper of the pain
Tears of loves lost in the days gone by
My love is strong
With you there is no wrong
Together we shall go until we die
My, my, my, my
Happiness, no more be sad
Happiness, I'm glad
And so today, my world it smiles
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles
Thanks to you it will be done
For you to me are the only one, yeah
Alright now
Happiness, no more be sad
Happiness, I'm glad
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
If mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me

Hoppipola by Sigur Ros. I walked in with my 2 dd’s, it was beautiful! I love that song.

Mumandthemermaids · 31/03/2026 14:21

We had a harpist play One Day Like This by Elbow

We walked out to that! ♥️

slug · 31/03/2026 14:27

Down the isle to Sven-g-eglaner by Sigur Ros. Back out afterwards to Primal Scream's Loaded.

"You know what we're going to do now? We're going to have a party! We're going to get loaded"

MaggiesShadow · 31/03/2026 14:29

I had the theme song from The Princess Bride.

38thparallel · 31/03/2026 14:36

My niece who was the first of her siblings and cousins to get married had a shortlist, all arrangements for organ

Arrival of the bride:
Schubert’s The Trout
Mendelssohn’s Spring Song
Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen

Leaving:
Widor’s Toccata
Gustav Lange’s Blumenlied.

She chose Grieg and Widor. Wedding Day is a longish piece but the organist ended it at a good moment.

Newlywedandpreg · 31/03/2026 14:40

we had a violinist who played me down to the slower version of Spectrum by Florence and the Machine- my absolute favourite song

StinkerTroll · 31/03/2026 14:45

Came in to Pachabels cannon, v traditional, came out to star wars (closing music of a new hope starts very much like the bridal march 😀)

It’s not the song I walked down too but we walked out to “highway to hell” 🤣 xx

The second movement of Mozart’s clarinet concerto.

So sad and moving, thought of it as funeral music

silverstorm101 · 31/03/2026 15:10

Yiruma - River flows in you

Beautiful piano piece for our wedding and then a stunning instrumental version of Hotel California (my late father's favourite song) for our vow renewal 🥰

This is a real contender. Both her and her DH to be love that song and are GNR fans.

Did you have the usual version or a different one?

November Rain is also a very good choice

ByUniqueViper · 31/03/2026 15:36

We walked down the aisle to Love Lift Us Up from the Officer & a gentleman song.
We had our first dance to No Easy way out from the Rocky 4 film.
So neither were regular wedding songs.
She should definitely go with whatever is meaningful to her/them rather than the norm or expectation for a wedding

I've only heard Pachelbel's Canon at funerals!

Edited

Surely not

I’ve never heard at funeral - often at weddings

Jok77 · 31/03/2026 16:02

We had the traditional wedding march but we played a Maori wedding song before I arrived (Pokarekare ana)- My Dad's family are kiwis.
I've been to weddings playing Trumpet Voluntary and The Arrival of the Queen of Sheeba.
I knew of someone who had Bruno Miles 'I think Im going to marry you).
I think, unless marrying in a traditional church, anything goes.

Pokarekare Ana!! The first song every kiwi child learns at school. That made me very nostalgic for my school days

Only if you have no imagination! I don't think I've ever been to a wedding where they've played Here Comes the Bride!

Or perhaps if you prefer the traditional over the modern.

Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves. Absolutely beautiful. Check it out!

I did check it out and it looks very sad 😢

veryoldwoman · 31/03/2026 17:22

Someone I know wrote two short pieces for me to walk down to and then out. Played by a string quartet.
He gave me a tape to check I liked them and to keep- 25 years later I have no idea where it is which is sad.
They were lovely.

@MaggiesShadow - it wasn’t in Wales was it?
