This thread is awful

the fact that he is a gay man does not mean he’s abusing young boys any more than if he was straight! All this Schofield talk is ridiculous.

Rylan is not a racist and MN is the only place you get called racist for questioning anything relating to migrants or religious groups. It’s ok to ask questions you know!
mostly from people who live some idyllic rural life where Mrs. goggins still owns the post office.

Floralflowersred · 30/03/2026 13:21

I quite like Scott Mills. I think for many of us in our 40s we’ve grown up with him on the radio.

Ive no doubt at some the actual reason will come out. I think the BBC are massively up on huge checks constantly - my friend works in the BBC building and there’s all sorts of changes.

As long as they don’t replace him with Nick ‘grimmy’ Grimshaw…… only radio host I literally can’t stand and to be honest, this would be my next guess of who would be sacked next.

100%

I still listen to Ken! His voice is like a lovely warm comfort blanket!

chateauneufdupapa · 30/03/2026 12:32

Yeah he came out with that ‘asylum seekers get given an iPad in their posh hotels’ nonsense recently

What did he actually say Ive missed this

Also, to be quite honest at my age, Im not really bothered by what people do as long as its not breaking the law. You can have a different view to me, you can be unfaithful, use drugs (yes that is illegal), perhaps you're an arsehole. I dont really care, if I like your show or listening to you or your music or acting well then so be it.

The slightest sniff these days of someone doing something that is newly 'inappropriate' and suddenly they're out of a job.

ComedyGuns · 30/03/2026 13:12

I would almost bet that it’s exactly the same reason Philip Schofield had to leave ITV.

A long term affair with a young subordinate at the BBC has soured and he was probably doing his best to get him re-employed, and the younger man became resentful and has now given all the details to HR.

The BBC needed to act before this man was tempted to sell his story to a newspaper.

Exactly what I said!

Trevor Nelson or Clara Amfo would be great - actually Clara would be great for Strictly!

Clara Amfo would be a really good shout. What’s she up to now? I used to really like her on R1 and she’s very knowledgeable about her music.

cardibach · 30/03/2026 13:22

Wellthisisdifficult · 30/03/2026 13:10

Stating facts these days make you racist apparently.

They aren’t facts though, are they? That doesn’t happen. And it’s something a lot of racists say, so if someone says it I’m at least suspicious that they might be a bit racist.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/03/2026 13:23

Isn't it about time that some regional radio presenters were promoted to radio 2, evenif its just the night shift?
Currently we have the same presenters being shuffled around to fill gaps in the schedule. They also have other gigs (tv presenters, singers, comedians etc).

cardibach · 30/03/2026 13:23

SirChenjins · 30/03/2026 13:12

Unless it was witnessed and therefore no investigation needed - assault, drug taking, sexual harassment, something serious like that which is instant dismissal?

Or he admitted what ever it is.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 30/03/2026 13:21

What are the rules? Sounds fun Grin

Sounds painful to me!! 😆

Fluffyholeysocks · 30/03/2026 12:55

To be honest, the BBC has lost it's position in national Radio. I listen to Dave Berry on Absolute now, he's a breath of fresh air and very natural with listeners. The BBC seem to think celebs/comedians off the telly are a good idea on Radio. They aren't - some don't even know what music they are playing. Go back to identifying DJ's with musical knowledge, a good rapport with listeners and not rely on 'celebs'.

This! Proper DJ’s who love music given a real chance.

NoSoupForU · 30/03/2026 13:25

SquallyShowersLater · 30/03/2026 12:31

Rylan is not a racist. At least he hasn't said or done anything publically that would show any evidence of it, so there is no reason to come to that conclusion.

I guess that poster is referring to the fact that he had a little rant on Good Morning (during a relevant feature) about the government failing to get a grip on the migrant boats, not 'smashing the gangs' as they'd promised and the runaway costs of housing those migrants in hotels for years on end.

Edited

Agreed. He isn't a racist. He's misinformed and is guilty of the same ignorance of probably a majority of the population, having believed things reported as being fact. I blame social media, algorithms and mainstream media being driven by clicks so using sensationalist headlines which often aren't even a vague reflection of the story, coupled with stock images used to rile.

He doesn't seem closed to learning.

SirChenjins · 30/03/2026 13:26

cardibach · 30/03/2026 13:23

Or he admitted what ever it is.

Yep - I bet it was witnessed, reported, and he admitted to it.

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 30/03/2026 13:27

BikeShmike · 30/03/2026 11:56

Apparently he's been caught taking shopping bags at Sainsbury's and not paying for them!

Saw that on Twitter so may not be 100% correct😃

I also saw another allegation that he was found suddenly and mysteriously in possession of 12 tonnes of KitKats Grin

HisNotHes · 30/03/2026 13:27

Starlight1979 · 30/03/2026 12:05

Rob Beckett or Josh Widdecombe would actually tip me over the edge.

Romesh on a Saturday is bad enough. Just hysterically laughing with the traffic woman constantly.

Josh is actually excellent on radio. Much better than the other comedians they have on to cover.

Ohcrap082024 · 30/03/2026 13:28

I reckon it’s bullying junior colleagues. With irrefutable evidence such as video and/or audio recordings.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/03/2026 13:07

We’re a 6 Music house but I really like Scott Mills and am sorry to hear this. I’d wager he’s more likely been caught with “inappropriate substances” at work than any sort of sexual misconduct though.

Why do you think that. Just curious.

Starlight1979 · 30/03/2026 13:28

LittleGreenDuck · 30/03/2026 13:22

Clara Amfo would be a really good shout. What’s she up to now? I used to really like her on R1 and she’s very knowledgeable about her music.

I agree she's a good presenter but being knowledgeable about music isn't what the breakfast show is about. That's more 6 Music. Radio 2 breakfast is more chatting, games and guests. I don't think Clara would be suited to it at all tbh...

CointreauQuaint · 30/03/2026 13:29

Really shocked at this, love Scott. I’m another grown up listening to him, him, chappers, Becky and Chris used to make me howl with laughter.

DripDripAprilshower · 30/03/2026 13:29

the fact that he is a gay man does not mean he’s abusing young boys any more than if he was straight!

Agreed.

I just knew a thread about a gay man would take a turn on MN.

No wonder there is still a need for a pride month each year.

Vitrolinsanity · 30/03/2026 13:16

I say keep Gary Davis!

I actually said “blimey” when it came on the office radio this morning.

Im amazed he did anything so reckless as to lose that show, which he clearly thought was his dream job.

I am not a fan of his, but I worry about his mental health and really hope he’s getting support.

Exactly this - except I do rather like Scott on the radio - he grew in me and sometimes made me proper laugh (which is no mean feat first thing in the morning).

He clearly loved his show and it seems extraordinary that he would do something to risk losing it - maybe it is something historic?

I do also hope he is getting appropriate support. I’m not excusing him if he has done something bad but can’t help feeling a bit sorry for him

Personally love Gary Davies 🙂

landlordhell · 30/03/2026 13:30

Strange to go to sacking when the news only says it’s an allegation.

Wellthisisdifficult · 30/03/2026 13:30

It does seem very sudden. I’m guessing either there was an incident with many witnesses, he admitted whatever it is or outside agencies are involved

placemats · 30/03/2026 13:31

cardibach · 30/03/2026 13:23

Or he admitted what ever it is.

Yes that's the likely outcome. Saw rumours floating a while back on X and thought mmm not good, if true. The fact he's hung on so long for a couple of months is interesting. IMHO, there's a paper trail.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 30/03/2026 13:31

TheDameHelenShiteingMirren · 30/03/2026 13:14

It's a play on rock, paper, scissors.

Well yes we obviously got that pun. But is there any more info from your “sources”? Or just having fun?
