I suppose it is possible that, if allegations are made, an individual could then tell the truth and "fess up" to some sort of offence or inappropriate behaviour? Not saying that has happened in this case, but it could explain a very quick move to end a contract.....

I forgot about Laura’s diary! I LOVED that - used to tune in daily just to hear that section.

I loved Laura's Diary, but definitely about 20 years ago as I'm sure I remember listening to it at work and it was a job I left in 2005.

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 30/03/2026 13:08

Thought he was useless when he used to occasionally stand in for Ken in the mornings. Maybe he's improved since then, but to me Mills, Anderson, Clark all represent the problem for R2 - style over substance (and not much style). The only R2 shows I listen to now are Tony Blackburn, Dermot O'Leary and Michael Ball, otherwise it's GHR, miles better despite the ads.

I’m guessing it’s a Philip Schofield type of offence and Beeb don’t want to go down that route and have it hanging in gossip columns for ages. If it is a young person I’m sure he/parents have learned from PS lad (forget his name) and are probably threatening all sorts legally if he wasn’t sacked.

It's unlikely he'd be sacked after being taken off air less than a week ago for something like that, as surely there'd need to be quite extensive investigation carried out, so would expect him to be off air for longer?

That does not make him a racist.

Stating facts these days make you racist apparently.

Unless it was witnessed and therefore no investigation needed - assault, drug taking, sexual harassment, something serious like that which is instant dismissal?

ComedyGuns · 30/03/2026 13:12

I would almost bet that it’s exactly the same reason Philip Schofield had to leave ITV.

A long term affair with a young subordinate at the BBC has soured and he was probably doing his best to get him re-employed, and the younger man became resentful and has now given all the details to HR.

The BBC needed to act before this man was tempted to sell his story to a newspaper.

I’d start listening to Radio 2 again if Trevor Nelson had the morning show 🎶

Oh this with bells on.

Unless his boss went to him and said "Scott, these are the allegations against you, suspension while we investigate" and he responded to whatever the allegations were 100% true, that he knew they would have no issues getting witnesses to say he had done what they were alleging, CCTV, whatever. He may have decided to go immediately rather than sit at home while they go through the process when he knew the outcome.

Oh you’re hilarious (living in a coastal town with several hotels which have been taken over by the government for migrants, tbf I’ve not seen I pads, but I phones) hth! 🤪

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 30/03/2026 12:58

came on here to see what it could be?! I’m genuinely shocked! I had grown to like his show. Love Gary davis - fed up of tv talent going on radio (Looking at you, Emma Willis). It’s just not the same set of skills!

Agreed. Likewise with "comedians" being given the slots. Are there no actual radio presenters left anymore?!

TheDameHelenShiteingMirren · 30/03/2026 13:14

KidsDoBetter · 30/03/2026 12:47

Can you be more specific?

It's a play on rock, paper, scissors.

someoneseatenmyapple · 30/03/2026 12:56

Time for Greg James to hop over from R1 then.

Why would Greg do that? The R1 Breakfast show is the top job in radio, and he loves doing it; I'm pretty sure when he's had enough he'll move to something with a later start.

FrankieMcGrath · 30/03/2026 13:15

Handeyethingyowl · 30/03/2026 12:17

That’s really sad. I really like his radio manner and things like him being obsessed with Neighbours and Kylie. He always seemed fairly normal to me which was a plus. Quite shocked.

I feel the same, although I listen to Chris Moyles on Radio X in the mornings, so only ever listened to Scott when Chris was on holiday. I liked him being a staple part of the background though, so dread to think what’s going to come out!

I hope Sara Cox stays on the afternoon as I love listening to her but would always pick Chris over Sara, so my listening commute is perfect right now & don’t want that to change!

Mangelwurzelfortea · 30/03/2026 13:15

AfternoonVanessa · 30/03/2026 13:12

Oh this with bells on.

He wouldn't want it though - he used to do a breakfast show in his younger years and said a couple of weeks ago that he couldn't do that now. Would interfere with his golfing time!

I don't think Sara Cox would want it either.

My money would be on Nick Grimshaw, if I was a betting woman.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/03/2026 13:07

We’re a 6 Music house but I really like Scott Mills and am sorry to hear this. I’d wager he’s more likely been caught with “inappropriate substances” at work than any sort of sexual misconduct though.

That was my thought, perhaps caught powdering his nose. Or is that still par for the course in media circles and not even worthy of a mention?

Vitrolinsanity · 30/03/2026 13:16

I say keep Gary Davis!

I actually said “blimey” when it came on the office radio this morning.

Im amazed he did anything so reckless as to lose that show, which he clearly thought was his dream job.

I am not a fan of his, but I worry about his mental health and really hope he’s getting support.

You're probably not far enough. Although SM does bang on about his husband most days but wouldn't surprise me.

TheDogsMother · 30/03/2026 13:17

I enjoyed him and Ellie on the show so much more than the wittering Zoe with her ‘I’m a menopausal woman’ thing and I say this as a menopausal woman.

I'm still sad about at Lisa leaving too.

FrankieMcGrath · 30/03/2026 13:20

Trevor Nelson or Clara Amfo would be great - actually Clara would be great for Strictly!

Pedallleur · 30/03/2026 13:20

Never any of female talent is it? Want a sex pest, a weird nut job you can depend on them coming from the male side. Whatever it was why do they not think what happens if I do this?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/03/2026 13:20

SirChenjins · 30/03/2026 13:12

Exactly. If it’s gross misconduct and witnessed you’re got rid of immediately. And I do think in light of PS actions the beeb definitely don’t want to be seen in the same light as itv.

My sources tell me he's been playing cock, paper, scissors.

What are the rules? Sounds fun Grin

Mangelwurzelfortea · 30/03/2026 13:21

Wasn't Scott Mills one of the contestants in this year's Celebrity Bakeoff: Stand up to Cancer? Wonder if they'll axe that too then?!
