Why is nobody posting happy birthday on my Facebook? 😔

Definitely a first world problem and name change for obvious reasons.

It's my birthday and I usually wake up to numerous messages on my timeline and they pop up during the day too.

All my settings are as they should be but nobody is posting, and it's not showing anywhere (even Facebook isn't wishing me happy birthday). Spoke to my mum and she confirmed no birthday prompts although she can see my birth date on my profile as usual.

DP is at work, kids are gaming for a bit while I have a chilled morning, and we are going out later so it's not that it's a shit birthday or anything.

But I'm missing my FB messages! 😭

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm assuming it's a technical glitch.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me for my last two birthdays. I spent the year diligently wishing friends happy birthday on their feeds but had zero on mine. I presumed it’s an algorithm thing - I’m older and use FB as a way of keeping up with what my equally older friends are doing and it does seem that everyone is using it less - I presume everyone’s feed is full of adverts like mine which is a discouragement to use as much as I once did.

I only had two people this year post on my Facebook but I had 25-ish people at my birthday drinks! Nobody uses fb anymore, they usually message separately these days. Not everything must be public

Mine doesn't tell me when it's anyone's birthday anymore, not sure why! I only know if someone mutual has said happy birthday to them! And even then, my Facebook is just a roll of ads and groups that I'm not in, I pretty much just see the same 6 people posts for some reason. I have to specifically go to someone's page to see what they've been up to. It's the biggest reason I rarely go on anymore. Or maybe because I'm rarely on, maybe because I'm not seeing the posts to comment/like, that they don't show me real people posts anymore so that's why I get a load of suggested nonsense instead!

IME people are (quite rightly) moving way from performative social media posts prompted by AI. Can feel hollow. People who love you will know it’s your birthday and send wishes directly, without being prompted.

I didn’t get any this year. I don’t send them on FB anymore either. I don’t think it’s something people do. Although you usually get some random one from an acquaintance you met 15 yrs ago and that’s always touching….

I only have a couple of friends who do this now. Everyone else has stopped using Facebook for this kind of thing. Close friends send a WhatsApp or call. I don't miss the FB messages from old acquaintances who only remember my birthday because FB tells them.

I never get prompts now OP. Not until someone else's happy birthday pops up in my feed.

Sometimes I dont even see those until days later. Its a proper crap site now.

I don't post much now but I do comment on friends posts and I use it for groups, I think i would rather ditch my phone than use tik tok.

Facebook is nothing but adverts, crappy AI videos and stupid clickbait these days. I’m surprised anyone still uses it.

What I don't understand is that my Instagram algorithm is perfect - very closely aligned with my interests. My Facebook is completely useless, mostly stuff I have zero interest in or rage bait local news. They're run by the same company - are they trying to destroy Facebook? If so, why?

It's such a shame when a lot of us have had it most of our adult lives.

I’ve not had birthday promos for ages, now o think about it.

About six weeks ago one of my Facebook friends had the 'it's her birthday' prompt but it was a month and a day too late. It was correct on her profile details but for some unknown reason FB didn't do it on the day but did it later. Perhaps you'll get lots of birthday congratulations a month from now.

Facebook often doesn't send the prompts. I missed some birthdays because it didn't tell me. You might get some messages in the next few days....🫣
