A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yvette Cooper is the latest to say that she knew nothing until approached by the guardian. 🙄

Amazing, isn't it? In law ignorance is no excuse, but if you're in a position of trust, purportedly running the country, ignorance is a get out of jail free card.

StatuteofLiberty · 17/04/2026 10:53

@EasternStandard that's excellent

DancingFerret · 17/04/2026 11:10

Breaking news just now: Starmer says it is "staggering" he wasn't told Mandelson failed vetting, then goes into repeat mode, dodging all the other questions being put to him, including he appears to he a passenger in this Government.

He will be defined by his reliance on ignorance and deflection.

It’s staggering he appointed him before vetting finished and then lied about due process.

He's such a.. I can’t do it justice

Julen7 · 17/04/2026 11:21

Starmer won’t go but that’s alright. We need him to stay as PM, what a gift to the opposition he is.

Hurryandwait · 17/04/2026 11:23

It’s staggering he tell such bare faced lies! The whiff of manure is all over this…

Hurryandwait · 17/04/2026 11:24

Just when you thought his credibility had touched the deep sea floor…

EasternStandard · 17/04/2026 11:33

Starmer is ridiculous on this. He appointed before vetting was concluded so his could the CS tell him it had failed?

He’s so far from getting what’s happening it’s a bloody joke.

Hurryandwait · 17/04/2026 11:41

It is simply not credible that with a govt and civil service that leaks as much as it does that nobody heard a whisper on failed vetting. We live in a world where every single policy is leaked before it’s announced..but suddenly we’re supposed to believe top people in the civil service kept absolutely silent…

EasternStandard · 17/04/2026 11:46

I think they wanted Mandelson so badly they just didn’t bother to wait for vetting.

Making that all due process was followed statement a lie.

Exactly this.
And if (big if) Robbins made the decision to override vetting without telling a soul, he did so after the PM had made the decision to appoint Mandelson.
I really hope Robbins speaks out to protect his own reputation.

Same, I’m thinking tribunal or money for damages but not sure how much the CS has to take from politicians like Starmer.

Mandelson was already working in place. Clearly Starmer and co didn’t wait. He’s just angry now as that is being exposed.

He jumped too early on the OR thing, because who actually checked when Mandelson started the placement? They would have known vetting wasn’t finished yet.

TheNuthatch · 17/04/2026 11:58

I've read that Robbins will possibly appear before the foreign affairs select committee on Tuesday to confirm his evidence.

Also, why the fuck is bollard in Paris when the meeting is virtual?

Haha I didn’t realise that. Virtual meeting has to go over. Your phrasing is excellent 😬

CandidLurker · 17/04/2026 12:28

And didn’t they push out a perfectly capable woman doing the role (who probably passed all the vetting with no problem) to shoehorn Mandelson into it?

Yes, Dame Karen Pierce, who was very capable and known to have a very cordial relationship with the Trump administration.

That’s really disgusting but I’ve often seen similar in my career. Women moved around so the big boss can surround himself with his mates. However you’d think that saintly KS would be above such things. Also if Dame Karen Pierce was doing the role successfully in terms of what seemed to be the key objective, which was to get on well with Trump, then there was no pressing need for a change. Apart from maybe KS liked talking to Mandelson.

Hurryandwait · 17/04/2026 14:08

He’s not getting out of this surely - Robbins saying he did what Starmer wanted, in effect. Of course he did.

Do we think they’re close enough to local election date for him to resign on Monday and have his replacement decided post local elections?

EasternStandard · 17/04/2026 14:36

Some of OR’s colleagues are speaking up, rightly so.

It’s unbelievable that Starmer and co still get the line on here that they’re decent. He’s a snivelling self preserver who will throw anyone under the bus to survive.

StatuteofLiberty · 17/04/2026 15:06

Wow I didn't realise a woman was pushed out. Again if all fits .

StatuteofLiberty · 17/04/2026 15:08

Speaking of Starmer looked very red in the pic with the headlines today. He’s gets redder the more he lies.

I can't look at him today. Repulsive POS.

Has his nose grown long? Or turned into a snout?

In years to come they will make a West End Musical, called the ' Madness of Kier Starmer' !
