A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

No, I'm sure it wasn't. They'll run short of people willing to work for them soon.

Starmer the career wrecker. If he’d only take responsibility for his own failure.

CandidLurker · 17/04/2026 08:06

I knew he wouldn’t resign. He believes he has a manadate almost to the level of some kind of religious calling. He will not leave until the next election is my depressing prediction. We have years to go yet.

EasternStandard · 17/04/2026 08:12

Sue Gray, Morgan McSweeney, Olly Robbins. I may have missed some. Each time he throws someone else under the bus.

It’s that arrogant Starmer plus weak / pathetic combo taking those people out, to save his own skin.

So far they’ve rubbished the Bank of England, all the established journalists they leaked budget plans to, revolving number 10 comms members, ignored economic and business experts and now after sacking the head of the FO, the civil service is getting hung out to dry on the news…as well as the usual blaming the political enemies and of course anyone that didn’t vote for them.

who else is left to blame for the next years?

Pacificsunshine · 17/04/2026 08:21

Oh my goodness! Listening to Darren Jones on the Today Programme. 🙄

Will anyone believe that Olly Robinson went rogue in his first fortnight on the job, and decided to drive Mandy’s appointment through? Ridiculous.

I’d love to know what they got him to sign to not speak to the media on this. I don’t believe it’s him, why would he?

It’s highly political.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 17/04/2026 09:05

Olly Robbins was the head civil servant of the Foreign Office from January 2025. Mandelson was appointed (by Starmer) as ambassador in February 2025. Mandelson was sacked as ambassador in September 2025. Starmer supposedly only found out about the vetting failure last week. So even if Olly Robbins did secretly override the negative vetting, he and the FO said nothing about vetting that reached Starmer between September last year (in fact a bit earlier) and April 2026?

That’s an incredible tale.

EasternStandard · 17/04/2026 09:08

I just heard a clip of Kemi asking Starmer if the vetting showed he had a relationship with Epstein, and he said yes it did.

So he knew what was included in the vetting but not the outcome?

It’s all bs

DancingFerret · 17/04/2026 09:09

Apparently Starmer "didn't have confidence in Olly Robbins" which is why he had to go.

The irony! Almost all the electorate doesn't have confidence in Starmer, but he doesn't think he has to go.

Yep.
Also Robbins was appointed after Mandelson was announced as ambassador. The political decision had already been made, before vetting, and before Robbins' appointment.

Yep imagine taking a job then being hit by the Starmer annihilator after they’ve done exactly what they’ll try to take you down for.

The PM decided before he even started the job!

I imagine he’s signed something to stop his rage exploding on the front pages.

@DancingFerret agree . I wish they had a laugh.emoji back

StatuteofLiberty · 17/04/2026 10:21

I can't imagine he will last the day but who to replace him

TheNuthatch · 17/04/2026 10:24

Is anyone listening to Times Radio? Patrick Maguire sounds utterly exasperated with the govt.

"Labour whips launched an audacious bid to cancel next week's session of Prime Minister's questions following a bust-up between Keir Starmer and the Commons Speaker.
Parliamentary sources told the Daily Mail that the party tried to end the Commons session early next week to avoid Sir Keir having to endure another bruising clash with Kemi Badenoch."

Thank you, yes, the press release I mentioned in which Starmer said he was “delighted” to appoint Mandelson as ambassador to the US is from 20 December 2024.

This whole affair just gets worse and worse.

I don't think Starmer is going anywhere soon. He'd rather stay on in disgrace than lose power, and his MPs don't have the integrity to remove him.
