A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

But then I get nervous the climate is so shit

TheNuthatch · 21/03/2026 19:35

@Albertroad It's great to have you on this thread. It keeps me sane too. 😁

@Parsley4321 Yeah, I hear you. I have a 'normal' job atm, and its nice not having all the stress of the business tbh. But then again, fortune favours the brave and all that. You're right to be wary in the current climate.

It would be worth your while listening to the programme in full (link below). I was driving at the time and didn't realise at first the man talking so much sense was Hitchens. I'm going to listen to it again as I'm sure there are bits I missed.

DH has poured me a large G&T. I'M awaiting a takeaway from our favourite Chinese. After the week I've had major surgery on Monday night and two days of low BP I was despondent at being allowed back home. But I'm back home battered but grateful. Don't like these blood thinnnners for five weeks mind 😭

Hope you enjoyed your Chinese and G&T @justasking111 !

I also had major surgery this week and have 35 days of blood thinners, but the pharmacist advised me to avoid alcohol 😭Also feeling battered so here’s hoping we both make a speedy recovery. Meanwhile thank goodness for this thread keeping us sane.

I have planned ahead and worked out I can open the Champagne on St George’s Day 🍾Not that I’m counting or anything..!

thecatsgotyourtongue · 22/03/2026 08:18

As this is a thread for those that don't like Labour.

Thats me! they've failed on pretty much of their manifesto promises but its more the lack of any plan to improve things that really irks.

Their Renters Rights bill shows a complete lack of how all these extra LL costs will be shared - the renter will be paying them all, assuming LLs even stay in the sector.
Higher rents, less properties.

However, i do agree we need to stay out of this Iran thing, so on this, so far, Starmer is right, though of course it maybe more due to the sorry state of our armed forces, which cannot be blamed on Labour, than some amazing foresight.

I'm waiting keenly for the May Council Elections, will be a blood bath for both main parties.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/03/2026 08:42

I hope you both recover well, @DameProfessorIDareSay and @justasking111 I detest blood thinners (I had to get DH to administer them after my c sections as I'm a wuss!).

Who's on with Laura K today? And who's taking one for the team?! (Not me, as we don't have a TV licence! 🤣)

It's Steve Reed, stuttering and prevaricating his way through LK's questions, while still taking potshots at the Conservatives: "the situation we were left with".

Edit for fat fingers.

Jeez. Maybe they should just take some responsibility for their bloody awful decisions since winning the GE. 🙄 The economy was growing in 2024...

That would involve more flying pigs than we could count.

Every time I see Steve Reed in an interview I think - how many times has he mentioned the previous government?

Total tosspot.

Ridiculous at this stage to keep relying on that line.

DameProfessor and JustAsking hope you have a speedy recovery.

justasking111 · 22/03/2026 12:27

Thanks for the many kind words. I'll get there. Not looking forward to physio every week though. It really jiggers me up the next day. I feel I've walked miles this morning walking to and fro in the house doing washing and light house work. I'm missing hoovering with three pets, there's hairs everywhere 🙈

justasking111 · 22/03/2026 12:30

Labour and the assisted dying. With not being able to get on waiting lists in Wales no wonder they're dropping. Been like this here for five years or more. I suspect reading the English press that they've taken the same stance.

So you'll either die waiting or sign a form when terminal. Problem solved

SapphireCasino · 22/03/2026 16:49

Oh dear, I typed a whole thing and this website ate it

Hopefully, it's obvious who I am
I thought it would be good to do an NC as we seem to get some strange people around here

I've been away for a few days
Thankfully, the tooth didn't bother me when I was away

@justasking111 @DameProfessorIDareSay wishing you both speedy recovery. I had to take blood thinners when I broke my ankle. I didn't really understand or at least I think it's a bit OTT

Didn't look at the news at all while away. I was with a friend which was so nice. Although quite interesting because I'm now so accustomed to being on my own 95% of the time, it was almost a bit strange. Didn't share a room - I couldn't do that.

So good to have a change and good not to see the news. Evidence of the decline of the UK isn't something you can hide from (unless you live somewhere really nice) but we didn't see much of it because of the nature of doing touristy things and the place you stay, I suppose.

didn't someone on here say that Greens have ruined Brighton? Funnily enough we met a lady from Brighton who said exactly the same thing. I was really interested to hear more, but you can't quiz somebody when you've just started randomly chatting.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15668995/Starmer-faces-cover-claims-chief-aides-Mandelson-messages-stolen-phone.html

Mcsweeneys phone containing messages re the Mandleson appointment was apparently stolen a while ago. If there were no back ups the promised disclosure of all evidence re Mandleson appointment will have gaps.

Make of that what you will. But if there is no back up that seems shoddy for important government business.

Starmer aide's Mandelson messages 'were on stolen phone'

Discussions between Morgan McSweeney and Mandelson were apparently on a mobile phone that has been stolen.

We have iphones. If they are lost or stolen, we can download the information from the icloud and reload it all onto our new phone.

I wonder what McSweeny had?
