A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Why does the phrase "a government of service" float around my head so much!

StatuteofLiberty · 16/04/2026 20:13

Oh for the good old days of sweet Rishi.

" A government of self service "!!

I was a bit puzzled by the Guido Fawkes post about Starmer-Mandelson-Streeting-Cooper. Then - duh! - the penny dropped.

It does look a lot like there’s a very vicious plot within the cabinet to dump Starmer and jockey for post-Starmer positions.

Long may the Labour backstabbing and self-destruction continue. This side of 7 May it’s a bomb under Labour’s chances in the biggest elections before the GE. And probably a bomb under Labour as a viable party altogether.

EasternStandard · 16/04/2026 21:14

I just heard a clip of him saying ‘all due process was followed’.

Can’t believe he’s idiotic enough not to check or he’s lying.

TheNuthatch · 16/04/2026 21:27

Its beyond ridiculous now.

Starmer is going back to the house on Monday to lie some more correct the record.

Emily Thornberry has expressed sympathy for Starmer, and said that she's planning to summon Olly Robbins back to the select committee re the evidence he gave previously. It has begun. Fuck the victims, save Starmer. 🙄

No 10 are claiming Starmer nor Lammy knew about the failed vetting until this week.

So is their position that Civil Servants withheld this information from them? That would be extraordinary.

Pretending we do inhabit some sort of fantasy universe for a moment and no politician had the slightest inkling……

bear with me😀

surely the first thing announced would be Ollie Robbins and other senior officials have been suspended pending disciplinary investigation. With a healthy serving of righteous indignation.

I know there’s the bigger the lie strategy but seriously….

boys3 · 16/04/2026 21:33

I equally feel like I’m regressing to childhood, sat in the back of the car and asking are we there yet.

with this now replaced by

is he gone yet?

and just as being a small child in the back of the car being bewildered that the answer is still …no

Haha, I know what you mean. 😊

On the other hand, I hope he stays. Labour will be subterranean for a generation if they keep Starmer. Suits me.

It just seems so implausible.

Somebody wants Mandelson as ambassador to the US. The checks are run, Mandelson fails the checks. Starmer appoints Mandelson despite this. (There’s a press release online in which Starmer says how “delighted” he is to appoint Mandelson.)

But now Starmer says he didn’t know there was an issue with security vetting.

How could this possibly be true? Did Starmer take no interest in the process of appointment at all? Had he never heard of Peter Mandelson? Was he lied to? If so, why? It defies belief. Mandelson was the UK’s ambassador in Washington FFS. Lammy knew nothing? Starmer knew nothing? Boggling.

The big question is why would Ollie Robbins override it, it’s too bizarre. Mandelson was a top political appointment and one that really mattered to Starmer.

It didn’t matter to a civil servant.

TheNuthatch · 16/04/2026 21:43

Just read that Robbins had only been in the job for a few weeks when the decision was taken. No way has this happened without approval from on high, none.

boys3 · 16/04/2026 21:53

I believe you mean Sir Ollie Robbins @EasternStandard 😀

but absolutely it defies any rationale belief,

maybe, just maybe, if Mandelson was being appointed ambassador to Tonga (no offence intended to Tonga) I could perhaps accept the possibility of the override being taken by officials without troubling any politician about it,

but he was being appointed as ambassador to the United States of America, probably our single most important Ambassadorial appointment.

all down to Starmer’s character

Parsley4321 · 16/04/2026 22:00

Two old vicious queens 🤷‍♀️

nauticant · 16/04/2026 22:37

Either it will be shown that Starmer and co are lying or there will have been a consiglieri figure between government ministers and the top civil servants who instructed the latter while shielding the government ministers from being seen to have been present in any decision making.

Ha I admit I only heard of him tonight. Being the poor new patsy for Starmer to try and end a career for over his own.

justasking111 · 16/04/2026 22:54

If I was the civil service I'd go on strike let labour MPs answer their own phones, write their own letters and make their own appointments. Withdraw all services.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/04/2026 06:06

Every story just makes Starmer look even more pathetic.

Hurryandwait · 17/04/2026 07:08

Nobody believes them - at best, the PM and FM were told unofficially for plausible deniability. We have rotten crew here, ready to torch the civil service to hang on for a few more weeks…

Sarahconnor1 · 17/04/2026 07:28

As predicted. Olly Robbins is out.

TheNuthatch · 17/04/2026 07:31

Yep. Sickening.

And Starmer slithers off to Paris to pretend he's important.

No, I'm sure it wasn't. They'll run short of people willing to work for them soon.
