A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

What do we think the next set of bullshit will be?

Starmer was not told that Mandy failed security vetting (even though he's the feckin PM)?

Lammy had no idea that the department he ran overruled the failed vetting (and he got promoted to deputy PM for keeping his gob shut)?

Utter bollocks that they didn't know. There is no way that the vetting could have been failed and neither Lammy nor Starmer told (with whomever was told updating the other about it).

They must think we're fucking idiots.

They claimed that they were squeaky clean and that the days of Tory sleaze would be behind us. In a way, they were right, as they're bloody worse than the Tories. 'Hold my beer!' says Starmer!

Yep 🎯

Those who called for Johnson to resign for misleading the house will now circle the wagons around bollard.

Different when it's Labour, innit?! 🙄 There will be some excuse, or reason why it's OK for him (rules are for thee, not for me).

A Labour MP texts: “We were at the beginning of the end a while back. This is the end of the end.”

from Aubrey Allegretti at The Times.

Let's hope.

and it comes to something when I find myself nodding in agreement with the SNP.

(Stephen) Flynn accused Starmer of “making contradictory claims about the process followed when appointing him to the highest diplomatic office in these isles.”

He added:

Today Keir Starmer has been caught in what appears to be nothing less than a shocking lie – he claimed Peter Mandelson passed security vetting when we now know the very opposite to be true. These new revelations are the most serious yet for the Prime Minister.

Sarahconnor1 · 16/04/2026 19:01

No 10 are claiming Starmer nor Lammy knew about the failed vetting until this week.

So is their position that Civil Servants withheld this information from them? That would be extraordinary.

TheNuthatch · 16/04/2026 19:05

Thanks @boys3. Yes to your comment on agreeing with the SNP.Same for the Lib Dem leader calling for Starmer to go.

That just….can’t be true. Or have the civil servants gone rogue? Surprised there hasn’t been a convenient fire destroying the files.

.....until a document is found proving that they did know.
Its always the lies and cover-up that get them.

Perhaps the files were on McSweeney’s phone 😉

And i am agreeing with Owen Jones.

Starmer really has brought the country together, just not in the way he hoped.

I imagine Starmer is firmly in Johnson's sights right now as he's busily honing the next essay for his column in the DM.

Schadenfreude indeed.

Edit: grammar

Yep. Looks like they have incoming anyway.

Good to see some politicians calling them out. They’ll squirm and lie. Let’s see…

The BBC is reporting:

A government spokesperson said: "The decision to grant Developed Vetting to Peter Mandelson against the recommendation of UK Security Vetting was taken by officials in the FCDO.

"Neither the prime minister, nor any government minister, was aware that Peter Mandelson was granted Developed Vetting against the advice of UK Security Vetting until earlier this week.

It’s the “nor any government minister” bit that I find particularly suspicious. Seriously? The Ambassador to Washington failed security vetting and not a single minister was told that? The recommendation not to pass him as fit was overruled by an official and no minister was told? Bullshit.

This looks to me like Starmer is saying to ministers that they must all stick together in the deceit or hang separately.

I can’t believe the government line can hold on this.

Why would anyone who is not a minister or the PM override it anyway?

Totally suss.

TheNuthatch · 16/04/2026 19:57

Yes exactly 💯

Are they also suggesting that not a single minister knows that cabinet officials are debating whether to release the files showing that Mandy failed vetting? In defiance of the parliamentary vote. Pull the other one, its got bells on.

OP posts:
Sarahconnor1 · 16/04/2026 19:58

I call bullshit aswell.

Mandleson was a political appointment so on that basis i can not believe there was no ministerial pressure to rubber stamp the appointment. I also struggle to believe that a civil servant however senior chose to overrule security vetting without ministerial approval. If that is the case the civil servants involved need to be fired.

Fgs Starmer will use anyone to save his hide.

There’s no way Mandelson wasn’t a political appointment made by the people at the top. It’s bs.
