What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

I get my cat acupuncture, arthritis treatments, medcations and specialist food that cost more than my rent, she's worth it 🐱

applescentedcandle · 05/03/2026 16:24

Where do the best socks come from please @HeadyLamarr

I've bought all my food from Waitrose for 25 years! Try hard to avoid the fancy stuff, it's just my nearest supermarket.

Boob job. I was flat as a pancake before. I basically converted from a pear shape to an hourglass overnight. Am embarassed though and no one knows I did it (am single)

I used to buy high thread count bedding and cashmere bedsocks pre-dc, and hope to again when there's a bit more cash.

Just being nosey to ask why you only visit your Mum 3 times a year?. We are all different but if my adult children only saw me 3 times a year I'd be so depressed.. l visit my sister once a month and she lives 200 miles away.. anyhow to answer your question.. people think im extravagant for flying abroad 8 times a year for a 5 day break.. although its always SC but l do get a villa with it's own pool. I eat out 3 times a week for late lunch/ early tea.
But to me this is just normal .. l think it all depends on our own money situation. I take ubers everywhere if not being driven by family members... even had far as 200 miles .. there and back.

You obviously have time and money

My cleaner.

I work full time (plus addition evening hours in busy spells), sole parent to two small children, and have pretty much constant anaemia tiredness.
I adore my cleaner, she's worth every penny and then some. I breathe a sigh of relief each week when she's been and its my most relaxing day of the week 😎

ScottishHils · 05/03/2026 16:31

Our two rescue kittens. They cost me a large adoption fee, a small fortune in insurance costs, and only eat a certain type of pet food which is £100+ a month 😮‍💨 And that’s the literal basics

TheToteBagLady · 05/03/2026 16:33

My dog

My hair - cut and highlights

My expensive spend is a one-off. I bought a vintage Vivienne Westwood dress. I honestly don't know when I will ever wear it, but now and then I take it out of the wardrobe and gloat over it. Sometimes I even try it on, it looks amazing!

I never spend more tha a few bob on clothes, usually discounted from already low prices, so I'm not sure what came over me. Actually, I do. It was accidentally dipping into the MN style section and being seduced by a few posts there.

Ooooh, not come across that one before. Thanks.

Also - wear the dress!

I boight myself a Cartier watch for a big birthday and gave myself a £3.5k birthday party the same year, fully catered, sit down dinner for 30 people, marquee, bottomless alcohol. I had had a few years from hell and wanted to thank everyone who had stood by me. No regrets at all. It was an utter extravagance and I would do it all again tomorrow

AGirlCalledJohnny · 05/03/2026 16:38

I get my roots done every four weeks, along with a trim with full head of foils every second trip. It’s my one vanity 🤣

Whataboutboob · 05/03/2026 16:39

Private school for DC.

NormasArse · 05/03/2026 16:39

A seasonal pitch for my caravan, so I can escape for 3 days a week throughout the spring and summer.

LifeBeginsToday · 05/03/2026 16:39

My singing lessons. I spend £75 per month for someone to teach me how to sing. Im sitting grade 4 next month at the grand old age of nearly 40. It brings me so much joy to get my little certificates.

Godd job you are not my mum, once every five years is enough. Or maybe if you were I wouldn't mind seeing you 😏

God, everything. I spend a lot of money. Picking out the things I feel no guilt at all about -

My hair. Had to cut the whole family’s hair for 12 years or so and hated it, so I love having hair that looks good now.

My cleaner.

My wedding. I’ve just spent 4 figures on my wedding dress, which is an evening dress rather than a classic wedding dress, and I probably love it about equally with my fiancé.

My shoes. I have apocalyptically bad feet. I now only buy two brands of shoe, my feet never hurt and I never have blisters. For the first 40 years of my life I assumed that all shoes were agony until they’d fallen to pieces.

relyonnoone · 05/03/2026 16:41

Big LEGO kits (over 2000 pieces) Currently have 5 waiting to be built.

RNApolymerase · 05/03/2026 16:44

Expensive coffee beans from the local cafe who roast them, to go in the expensive coffee machine. I tell myself it's cheaper than buying the coffees individually.

DaisyDooley · 05/03/2026 16:46

Business class flights where possible
Very good hotels - or a villa with a private pool.
A Strathberry/Aspinal handbag every year.
I save hard for these and don’t waste money on ‘stuff’ so I can do it.

Unorganisedchaos2 · 05/03/2026 16:46

Not massively expensive but fresh flowers, I always have a few bunches around the house most of the time, it makes me very happy.

Holidays, we spend the nearly a months combined salary on a trip abroad and a new year break and try to have a couple of UK weekend weekends away too.

Thingsthatgo · 05/03/2026 16:48

I buy loose gemstones just to look at them! Grin I get them out at look at them sparkle like a little goblin! My current favourite is a colour change sapphire.

Nothungrycat · 05/03/2026 16:49

Coffee beans which I grind every day in a not very cheap grinder.
Decent cheese from an independent cheese shop.

Saharafordessert · 05/03/2026 16:50

My horse…he’s the best and worth every penny :-)
