What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

The gardener every two weeks.
Amazon stuff that catches my eye.
City breaks in Europe
M+S/Waitrose shop for goodies once a week. Main shop Aldi!

EarlofShrewsbury · 05/03/2026 16:00

I spent £140 on a duvet last month. (menopausal desperation).

My heart rate increased on the way to the till and I felt a bit sick paying for it.

Since I've had it home? Zero regrets.

HelenaWaiting · 05/03/2026 16:01

Waitrose and manicures. I'd say the dogs but they inform me that they're entitled and therefore it is not an extravagance.

Jenkibuble · 05/03/2026 16:02

As PP stated it is relative to income. For me -
-Gym membership (I use it a LOT and my mental health benefits HUGELY) it is a social thing too
-Sourdough bread -pricier and smaller loaves but yummy and easier to digest !

Crumpets. Before you say they're not expensive, I'm not in the UK. I have to pay around £5 for a pack of 6 and a further £15 delivery charge. For crumpets.

Have you tried making them?

Gloriousgardener11 · 05/03/2026 16:05

Nice food and wine from M&S or Waitrose aside from the main shop at a bog standard supermarket.
That's it really, I’m a simple soul!

Denim4ever · 05/03/2026 16:06

Based on recent threads about uk holiday cottages, I'm starting to think 900-2300 for a week is extravagant. Well I was until I looked up what costs less than that in Cornwall in August 2026.

BloominNora · 05/03/2026 16:06

Gigs, theatre and ComicCon - have spent an absolute fortune on photos for DD and autographs for the both of us with actors from our favourite shows and films and I absolutely love theatre and live music - 100% no regrets

Ineffable23 · 05/03/2026 16:08

I love decent bed linen (generally 300+ thread count so not mega mega luxe but not cheap). I have never regretted spending money on good pillows.

I also have several pairs of cashmere socks. I only wear them inside slippers, in the house, but I adore them. They are so cosy and warm. Same applies to basically anything made of either merino wool or cashmere, which comprises my entire jumper collection, plus two berets, plus three scarves. And leather gloves.

Edit: I think this is basically just things that keep me warm!

DH has always been tinned fish obsessed. It used to just be mackerel in tomato sauce.
A couple of Christmasses ago I noticed you could get some really nice imported ones so I bought him a hamper of them. Apparently tinned fish was the present of that year. I had no idea.
Anyway, he bloody loved the hamper. And now he has an expensive tinned fish habit.

Have you tried this one? It's v nice

My expensive spend is a one-off. I bought a vintage Vivienne Westwood dress. I honestly don't know when I will ever wear it, but now and then I take it out of the wardrobe and gloat over it. Sometimes I even try it on, it looks amazing!

I never spend more tha a few bob on clothes, usually discounted from already low prices, so I'm not sure what came over me. Actually, I do. It was accidentally dipping into the MN style section and being seduced by a few posts there.

Tenorio Tuna Fillet with Lemon & Piri Piri, 120g

Tenorio’s tuna fillet with lemon and piri-piri is a zingy addition to Portuguese lunch spreads. The tuna fish is canned with olive oil, providing a rich, rounded flavour. The addition of lemon and chilli peppers brings bright and briny flavours to the...

wear the dress - it will become normally you as you wear it

Skincare
Candles
Fresh flowers
Victoria Beckham lipstick and lip liner.

HeadyLamarr · 05/03/2026 16:13

Socks. I'm so sick of cheap rubbish socks that I spent a fortune and replaced them all with decent quality socks - 9 pairs for each member of the household.

Those and high thread count bedding are all but wonderful changes.

Campervans. We ordered our third one yesterday, our second brand new one. It is virtually the same as the second one, same company, same model but upgraded in terms of technology.

PollyPhonic · 05/03/2026 16:13

An Everhot range cooker - sort of like an Aga, but native electric. It was a big old chunk of money, but I am in love with it, and it has transformed our cold, north-facing farmhouse kitchen into a cosy space that you want to spend time in.

Gardenalia · 05/03/2026 16:13

My garden. I want it perfect but can’t be arsed to do any real work in it myself, so I pay three gardeners. It’s beautiful and makes me super happy. Costs up to £150 a week

ZippyGeorgeandBungle2 · 05/03/2026 16:14

I love eating out. I live in a small village but make a point of visiting my nearest town with family/friends & dining in various local restaurants. This past 10 days for example I’ve been to 6 different places. I know some people eat out every night/day but for me, picking somewhere nice to go with my family/friends and enjoying it is such a treat.
also love a regular facial and weekly wine!

elastamum · 05/03/2026 16:16

Horses. I have kept them all my adult life. They bring me great joy but cost a fortune.

TheChicDreamer · 05/03/2026 16:17

I spent almost 12k on getting my teeth done a few years ago: braces, eight composite bonds, whitening and four veneers. Have never for a moment regretted it or felt bad about the expense.

ShadowViolet · 05/03/2026 16:18

I have a £2.5 k pair of binoculars. I’m not usually known for splashing the cash, but these were worth every penny (yes, really!).

I’m a little sad to report that it appears that buying these things also bought me a disproportionate amount of respect amongst “typical bird watchers” (think older men), who’ve gone from completely ignoring me to actively making space for me in bird hides. It’s hilarious 😆

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 05/03/2026 16:19

Molton Brown shower gels and other products. I love how they smell, every day.

I love this! What a harmless healthy thing to really like.

DVDs, I love my physical media and have a huge collection, I frequently watch films and it gives me so much pleasure.

berlinbaby2025 · 05/03/2026 16:20

An Apple device every few years, paid outright.

museumum · 05/03/2026 16:22

a personal trainer. once a week.
It's soooo expensive but I am very nearly 50 and I know I just cannot make myself do strength or mobility work without her. I don't pay for a gym, but if I did it would be a waste as I wouldn't go. I like running and cycling but I know I need to do strength and mobility to stay healthy. i basically pay her for the knowledge but also the motivation and accountabilty and she plans it all so I don't have to think, I just turn up and do as I'm told.
