What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

Scented candles from one particular online store. The large sizes cost £50 each and I buy about 3 or 4 a year. They are glorious and bring me so much joy.

Driving Jim Carrey GIF by Morgan Creek

I've loved reading these but made me realise how I don't have any of my own. Asked dh what his is & he said "smokes and vapes".....and it dawned on me that I have to find £260 a month to cover what he is taking out for his "habit"....what a wakeup call that is.
Anyway I digress....

If I had funds it would probably be pay p.m for a new car. Mine is a astra, had her years love her dearly but she is showing her age now and it's such a ricktey ride. Like going down a cobbled hill on a bike

Popstarrrrr · 05/03/2026 16:51

Flying long haul in business class. My body thanks me and my holiday starts the minute I have my first glass of champagne in the lounge.

Goldfsh · 05/03/2026 16:52

First class trains

It's actually really bad

But now I can't stop

Free porridge gives me an excessive amount of happiness

@MrTiddlesTheCat !! Fair play if your happy to spend so much on crumpets, BUT I made this recipe a few months ago and I'll never make it again. That's right, I won't make them again.

Because they tasted exactly like the shop bought ones which are cheap as chips here! For you though, I'd definitely recommend giving them a go yourself. they're so easy to make!

If the link doesn't work, it's a guy on YouTube, JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade, 'Crumpets, you'll never buy another crumpet from the store.'

Back to the OP, mine is White Company scented oils and home sprays and Tallow + Ash laundry detergent.

Gym membership that I don't use quite enough to justify the cost, but love it the couple of times a week that I do go. Also weekly reformer Pilates on top of that.

And YouTube premium, because I bloomin hate the ads.

PauliesWalnuts · 05/03/2026 16:53

@Beachtastic this line “I honestly don't know when I will ever wear it, but now and then I take it out of the wardrobe and gloat over it” has made me crack up laughing - thank you.

Mine is Aesop hand wash, expensive bedding, and high end cycling kit. I cycle to work and at weekends so need to be comfy - that’s my justification and I’m sticking to it.

Tinned fish is so trendy and expensive these days!! 😂

Amazing that tinned fish.

I bought some fancy boots last month and fancy jeans this month with profits from my side hustle. Worked hard and well earned!

SatsumaDog · 05/03/2026 16:55

My PT and gym membership. Essential for survival now I’m in my 50’s. Offset by the fact I don’t drink or eat out apart from very special occasions.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 05/03/2026 16:55

If the train stops or breaks down - UBER. No rail replacement bus, no NEVER.

OtherS · 05/03/2026 16:56

Butcher meat and business class flights.

handsdownthebest · 05/03/2026 16:58

My n+1 bikes. Keep me fit and healthy at 60+

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 05/03/2026 16:59

2k on ceramic bbq and pizza ovens.

Had them 3yrs and use them all year round to cook delicious food.

Hardly eat out any more or order takeaways and it's definitely a hobby rare than a chore

Love this. And now you've made me massively grateful that we only have to pay £1 for them so I am going to pick some up on the weekly shop tomorrow.

This has made me want a crumpet! I think mine is my subscription to gardens illustrated magazine. Plus the plants I want to buy after reading it.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/03/2026 16:59

Long haul business class.

Squirrelsnut · 05/03/2026 17:00

A pure linen king-size bed set. It's so soft and cool.
Children.

BotterMon · 05/03/2026 17:01

3 horses!

Idontknownowwhat · 05/03/2026 17:03

Botox
Expensive hair products.
Expensive make up products
Disneyland annual passes. Not so much the passes that cost the money, but the travel and hotels to go as often as I take the kids

WhatsConfusingYouIsTheNatureOfMyGame · 05/03/2026 17:03

Day trips! And nice meat from the butcher.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 05/03/2026 17:05

I'm really pretty poor at the moment, so my extravagance is something that most people wouldn't even notice, but - my audible membership. An audio book every month is such a luxury; I run the books overnight to help me fall and stay asleep and it's like being read to all snuggled up in bed when you were a child.

So it's only about £8.99 per month, but it's money I can't really afford and yet...

quirkychick · 05/03/2026 17:05

Love this thread! I remember hearing how important your spending is to align with your values... that's my excuse, anyway 🙃
Mine are yoga classes, yoga workshops, yoga gear, candles, healthy food, eating out, supplements, chocolate and wine.

stickydough · 05/03/2026 17:06

I just spent £90 in a posh boutique charity shop! Felt extravagant but I got 6 items and all for a good cause.

TheFairyCaravan · 05/03/2026 17:06

Acupuncture every 3 weeks for my migraines and widespread chronic pain. If I got to the point where I didn’t have the problems anymore, I’d still go because I love it.

User122333 · 05/03/2026 17:06

My extravagances atm are keeping my elderly mpv on the road, paying premium for any and all streaming services, and living in a house that’s much bigger and more expensive than I need, because I love the big garden that goes with it.

edited to add that I’m well aware that all this will almost certainly have to change in a couple of years time. I’m determined to enjoy it while I can afford to.

CrowsInMyGarden · 05/03/2026 17:09

Dogs. Gig Tickets. Things for the garden/allotment. I think other people think growing your own fruit and veg saves money but I am not so sure. Seeds are inexpensive but there always seems to be something I need/want. Just bought 6 self watering tomato towers which should last years and I plan on growing lots of very unusual tomatoes this year.
