I have Emirati friends in Dubai who were starting their Iftar this evening when they heard explosions and had to seek shelter. This is “friendly” fire, as the Iranians are only aiming for the US bases in the UAE, not at their fellow Muslims. So that’s all right.

Oh, I do like the tone of his anger.

Trump has nothing to lose, here, if our suspicions about him being not long for this world are correct. He could commit atrocities as heinous as he likes and by the time anyone was able to haul him up for it, he'd be gone.

I've seen the unexploded bombs as a plot line in Call The Midwife. No idea it was still going on!

The comments are first class evidence that we are living in a Bizarro world when people are rooting for Iran. And we already know that China is the voice of reason re Trump's tariff policy.

The irony is, if things did get really bad in Dubai they, as British citizens could be evacuated. One of my best friends lives in Dubai and I really hope it doesn't get bad and of course Britain has a duty of care to its citizens.
But it is ironic because I bet Tice and Oakshot (and other "tax refugees) wouldn't think of turning down foreign office assistance no matter the cost to the tax payer. But the main reason they/their partners arre in Dubai really is to avoid tax. And they have been banging the drum on how high earners shouldn't be subsidising others lifestyles.And how higher taxes will cause the wealthy to "flee" as "tax refugees" to tax havens. But British tax payers will be subsidising their lifestyle choices if it goes bad.

I want the UK government to be there for it's citizens. But it's just true that the costs of repatriation flights from other countries (when it goes wrong) cost far more than the average person on UC gets. And is more likely to benefit those with the money to live/travel abroad. It's the lack of reflection that irks.

You know, I think that could be the worst possible thing you could wish on someone. Except Scrotus who would happily throw his children (except Ivanka) in front of an assassin without a second thought.

Not long ago, a solid chunk of Plymouth was evacuated and cordoned off because of an unexploded WW2 bomb. That same week another bigger WW2 bomb was found in the harbour in Dartmouth. (My DS lives in Plymouth, his flatg was just outside the evacuation zone).

About unexploded bombs: if we know that 20% of the bombs the Germans dropped on this country failed to explode, it seems inevitable that some will still be around and still failing to explode until (or unless) they suddenly do. We find and detonate about sixty per year, last I heard; but that's the army bomb disposal people, and private firms seem to have reported as many as eight thousand "devices" countrywide, last year alone – those won't all have been WWII. Some will have belonged to the IRA and other low forms of life who plant bombs to kill civilians in time of peace.

Latest reports:

Also claiming that his son (likely successor) was killed as well.

It's also hard to tell if it's true or not. It could be true, but it could also be misinformation aimed at people within Iran especially the military in the hopes of sparking defections or infighting. Ít makes sense if their stated aims is regime change. That isn't a criticism of Israel. The first weeks of the Ukraine war had loads of crazy rumours flying around some of them seemingly started by Ukraine. All countries do it. Likewise I can completely believe that the Iranian regime wouldn't want to confirm his death/would outright lie about his death if he was dead.

.I just don't think you can know for certain until there's more proof or Israel do as they said and release the footage they have of his body. Both sides have reasons to lie.

Sorry I should have added or until Iran confirms it. Which I suspect they really wouldn't want to do if he is indeed dead.
