My internet is normally heavily restricted, but I think even the western sites I can see have broken, or been "tampered" with.

I am trying to find what Trumps plan is for an interim government in Iran is if the regime falls as he expects? You know, when the million or so Iranian Military put down their guns, and the leaders put their hands up.

But I can't find anything, so it must be blocked ?

As an example of blocked, I can't find the size of the Iranian military.

State media however, and Sky, are reporting that the "peace talks" were a ruse.

If true, then yeah. Good luck getting anyone round a table ever again.

Anyway folk, what is Trumps plan for an interim government ? It must have been published by now surely ?

It’s 75 years (last week) since my home city was heavily bombed by the Luftwaffe. 230 civilians were killed and the city centre destroyed but the targeted docks and steel works were pretty much left intact.

Just over 75 years in my home city they had the biggest strike though a few over the whole year, but my mum only talked of it more fully in her last years - I’d not really taken on board before (as a kid knowing this happened) how scary it was, how devastating - rather ignorant of me I see that.

she just about lived solely on her spirit a good few years at the latter end of life, so it did certainly hone her strength to face situations - terrible events though.
No one should have to face/suffer war in the modern world.

When DGM passed in 1991, towards the end, suffering from the dementia (that took DM) she basically relived the 1940s. Continually asking my aunt how she made it through the bombs and for news of long vanished roads and neighbours.

It was an intense demonstration of something I have repeated asserted to little reception that the shadow of "the war" was cast long and wide and we have not yet emerged.

@RedTagAlan even the US and Israeli forces don't know what the plan is other than "we want something different".

Circling off the coast and along the Egyptian maritime border. Has been for a couple of hours now.

Give it a few hours, and republicans such as Boebert will be tweeting " Iranian Chemtrails"

My Dad went back to his national service when very ill, near the end.

He asked if it was me or my Mum on duty with him - I just said ‘oh we are both doing it’ - he told me not to be so stupid they only needed 2, which made me laugh in the sadness of it all.

It certainly formed their views on, fear of really, ‘communism’ and for my Mum obsessed with not being ‘greedy’.

It has taken me too many years to realise that I was born and brought up in the shadow of the war (60s) and the ongoing impact - as you say. I honestly grew up treating it like some history lesson that may have been about the civil war as much as WWII more or less - a bit of a failing.

6am (ish) here and this is what I wake up to? Not y'all, the attack I mean.

In future years if someone asks "Where did you hear about Operation Septic Furry?" (that's NOT a typo) I will say "On Trump thread 156, of course, where all the news breaks first!"

I'm off to the kitchen to make a strong pot of coffee. I'm going to need it.

My son is flying back from the US today.

He went with work, 5 weeks ago. And is flying back today. I would have not have gone in a million years, he is completely blasé of course.

The insouciance of youth. 🙄

Timing!

AcrossthePond55 · 28/02/2026 14:59

You know, I think a big 'thing' in the glee in certain MAGA quarters going on is that the US hasn't seen actual 'warfare' since May 1865 (Battle of Palmito Ranch, TX). Yes, there were Pearl Harbor and the warfare in the Aleutians during WWII, but those were not states at the time nor was there the devastation that the countries in Europe & Asia experienced. So we are ignorant to the reality of the civilian costs of war, it's too far removed from us.

Europe and Asia still have survivors of bombings, alive to tell the tales. There are probably still remnants of buildings and God knows there are battlefields aplenty. We here are 170+ years removed from that. As moving as the USS Arizona Memorial is, there is somehow a difference between military deaths and civilian deaths during a war. We expect military casualties, but because we didn't suffer many civilian casualties on US soil we're unable to empathize with the people we are currently putting such terrible danger.

Civilian casualties in the US in WWII 1500, civilian casualties in the UK in WWII 70,000. Not really comparable, are they?

countrygirl99 · 28/02/2026 15:06

My mum is 88 so was a small child during WW2 but now she has Alzheimer's she frequently talks about her childhood experiences. Her dad was in a protected job and was an ARP warden in London. He was severely affected by some of the things he witnessed and tried to commit suicide by gassing himself. Her older brother pulled him out but suffered lifelong mental health issues himself.

Yup.

Although given the terrible cost of war in deaths of anyone, I would really have hoped everyone would see it as a last resort.

Trumps speech was basically, in my mind, de-humanizing a significant proportion of Iran's 90 million people. How many tens of millions, I have no idea.

And I find this difficult to explain. But the soldiers, civil servants, supporters of the regime, have never known any different. And with restricted press and all that, how could they know any different?

Likes of Trump seem to think they all tune into fox news in the evening, and tut tut at how bad they all are. And he just casually says, on media they can't see, put your guns down or be destroyed.

Now, if I were to post that on "the other thread", I would get flamed as a regime supporter. I am not. It's a long time since my CPC tankie days. But I do understand that living under a regime that has a near iron grip on the media one can see, does not inherently make one a bad person.

Goodwins alert. At the end of WW2, the allies done a massive de-nazification project. But Trump and the shit-hawks just yell destroy destroy destoy.

I have read (and am looking for verification) that an elementary school has been bombed and 68 children killed. Al Jazeera is reporting

Trump and his administration disgust me. It's like a game to him and Hogsbreath

Israel doing what they do best.

Who is in the UN security council just now, apart from the perm members.

I get Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, Liberia, Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama, and Somalia.

China, France, Russia, UK, USA.

I see Macron has called for a meeting. That would be an interesting vote result. All vote "stop" apart from one ?

Lucy Worsley did a series a few years ago called “Blitz Spirit” which focussed on the diaries of 6 people who lived in London during the Blitz. Some of the things that wardens/nurses had to deal with are beyond words.
