Right, I’m home for an hour before going out, again, just trying to figure out where we’re up to.

logicisall · 28/02/2026 15:52

Oh the irony of bonespurs telling the people of Iran to fight for their own government, while citing his generosity in providing them with a window of opportunity. 🙄

RedTagAlan · 28/02/2026 11:41

How is the oil price ?

If Iran shuts down the Strait of Hormuz I expect Trumps VZ oil will go up in value ?

Oil price is up...naturally.

Llttledrummergirls · 28/02/2026 16:02

Bonespurs attitude is pissing me off.

His actions are reminiscent of those of Russia in Warsaw in the second world war where they encouraged the uprising, then stood by why the leaders of it were killed, then when all who would likely oppose them as well in the long run were dead, they finally acted. America and Israel will not want to give up any control of Iran to it's people.

His speech is so he can later say the people didn't fight for themselves, have no leadership and he needs to be in charge.

We are now drawn into repercussions of his fuckwittery again. Stupid, stupid man.

Lucy Worsley did a series a few years ago called “Blitz Spirit” which focussed on the diaries of 6 people who lived in London during the Blitz. Some of the things that wardens/nurses had to deal with are beyond words.

Mass Observation was a groundbreaking (and sadly lost) idea.

You know, I think a big 'thing' in the glee in certain MAGA quarters going on is that the US hasn't seen actual 'warfare' since May 1865 (Battle of Palmito Ranch, TX). Yes, there were Pearl Harbor and the warfare in the Aleutians during WWII, but those were not states at the time nor was there the devastation that the countries in Europe & Asia experienced. So we are ignorant to the reality of the civilian costs of war, it's too far removed from us.

Europe and Asia still have survivors of bombings, alive to tell the tales. There are probably still remnants of buildings and God knows there are battlefields aplenty. We here are 170+ years removed from that. As moving as the USS Arizona Memorial is, there is somehow a difference between military deaths and civilian deaths during a war. We expect military casualties, but because we didn't suffer many civilian casualties on US soil we're unable to empathize with the people we are currently putting such terrible danger.

Civilian casualties in the US in WWII 1500, civilian casualties in the UK in WWII 70,000. Not really comparable, are they?

I got in an argument once with someone who countered with "well women didn't have to go and die in Vietnam". I pointed out that quite a lot of women died in Vietnam actually but it hadn't even occurred. It's true that American men were drafted and suffered terribly while American women weren't. And soldiers suffer terribly in wars. But the overall idea that "men have to go to war and women get to stay behind and be safe" only makes sense if you are American and the war is somehow far away and something you go to. And when civilians do die (women and men and children) that doesn't register. I don't think it's an exclusively American failing. But like you say because Americans are more used to American soldiers dying in war than American civilians they emphasize with soldiers more. Civilian deaths aren't as real

I think it's geography rather than a moral failing.

Kuwait airport building has been hit by a drone, but not the tarmac. Brits advised to apply for an exit permit now.

I have visions of Tice and Oakeshott fleeing Dubai as refugees

Someone should consider whether Trump is doing this in concert with the ruling regime as a means of eliminating the resistance.

TokyoSushi · 28/02/2026 16:11

So as far as I can gather, Israel/US have bombed Iran to a fairly small extent (so far) and Iran have basically gone berserk and sent bombs/drones/missiles to everybody they can think of including a hotel on Palm Jumeirah? Right?

The Orange turd, who was too scared to fight himself back in the day, praises the bravery of his military personnel and tells ordinary Iranian people on the ground to stand up and fight for their country. Too much irony for me.

Trump is not only stupid, but extremely dangerous because he thinks he’s clever. He is a one-man Axis of Evil.

No bottles left. Boebert used them all in target practice.

And they machine gunned the cans in protest at a "woke" add.

Lots of JD though. Given that Canada stopped buying it.

BestIsWest · 28/02/2026 17:15

I only have to look over my garden wall to speak to someone who was bombed out of their home in 1941. He was 9 at the time and it’s still very real to him.

Justsaynonow · 28/02/2026 17:26

@RedTagAlan

"Anyway folk, what is Trumps plan for an interim government ? It must have been published by now surely ?"

He'll announce it in 2 weeks - along with the infrastructure & health plans 🙄

Surrounded by a cabal of more evil doers, each with their own specific agenda.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 28/02/2026 17:31

So, next distraction from Epstein is Cuba, apparently.

PickAChew · 28/02/2026 17:42

We're still regularly unearthing unexploded WWII bombs in the UK, @AcrossthePond55 often resulting in large areas having to be evacuated until they're made safe. Always an uncomfortable reminder of what people went through on a regular basis.

NEW: Bahrain skyscrapers and Dubai hotels are now being hit by Iranian drones.

This is insane. Trump has unleashed chaos and carnage.
