So, after all the time of his yearning for an Obama-esque picture of himself in the situation room, here is his perfect time for it and he's strolling about War A Lago (LOVE that). He's probably going from public room to public room so he can be slapped on the back and applauded for his magnificent bigly war.

Wonder how many military positions and secrets he's going to give up for the sake of looking like he knows what the fuck is going on.

And Kegsbreath? I have no words. You may as well have ME as War Sect'y. I probably know more about waging war than he does. All he knows is what he's learnt playing Call of Duty on his Nintendo.

The BBC just showed the United States addressing the United Nations.

The UN need to rein them in. America cannot be allowed to bomb countries who disagree with them whilst in the same breath saying allies will be protected. They sound like they are running some kind of proection ring, threatening violence if countries don't follow America's orders.

This is the behaviour shown in Venezuela.

Also, anyone who describes Rubio as a diplomat can fuck right off.

Eyesopenwideawake · 28/02/2026 22:09

If anyone needs a break from this, watch the Piano Room on BBC2 on catch up and just drift...

Theres not much the UN can do unfortunately. The US has veto rights on any resolutions. So other delegates can give speeches and denounce him but that's about it.
The post WW2 setup of the UN was always going to give the main powers extra protection because they set it up. They wouldn't have agreed it otherwise. But any illusions the Permanent Members are somehow more responsible than "lesser" countries have been shattered. I mean, they were shattered a while ago but the shards have been shattered.

I lost IAF1 as it turned NE from Italy and headed over southern Germany. I’m guessing it’s touched down at a US base in Southern Germany.
They didn’t start talking about having killed the ayatollah until it was headed away from the offshore holding pattern. Also currently US assets in the air over Europe.

It landed in Berlin

Ah got it now - that’s… odd. Three hours circling off the coast of Gaza before heading to Berlin.

Trump looks weird in that hat.

As if anyone would want to throw a gherkin at him. A whole big glass jar of gherkins, maybe...

I assume Trump is ill.

It's very, very unlike him not to be preening in front of live media when he has something he wants to brag about.

Has he been seen at all other than in the video he released this morning on Truth Social? The one recorded without the press and in which he's hiding under that huge hat?

I know he's made phone calls to the press (and had a 5 min call with Starmer), so it's clear he wants to yap. So why isn't he getting out there? Or releasing a dozen photos of himself with a beautiful chocolate cake or in a staged Sit Room shot trying to recreate the photo of Obama?

I say he's just chicken shit. He's riled up more than just the Iranian regime. Plenty of people including some MAGAts are mighty peeved. Maybe he's afraid of 'terrorists'?

BruceAndNosh · 01/03/2026 01:35

Fuck me, it's all kicking off in the Middle East. Dubai is getting hit?

I'm assuming Trump's loglc is that negotiating "peace" in Gaza didn't get him the Nobel Peace Prize so he's going all out in the opposite direction to see if they'll give him the War Prize instead

Latest reports:
Senior Israeli official to Israeli media: “Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed and his body was retrieved from the rubble. Israel holds clear and indisputable footage showing Khamenei’s body, and may decide to make it public in the future.” (i24 News)

Also claiming that his son (likely successor) was killed as well.

I expect they're already celebrating at War a Lago - too much to expect any remorse over dead school children.?

How long before Trump's back talking about Cuba and Greenland?

Edited

Trump and his ilk have never been moved by American kids dying in domestic school shootings, they are not likely to be bothered about foreign children being killed

The comments are first class evidence that we are living in a Bizarro world when people are rooting for Iran. And we already know that China is the voice of reason re Trump's tariff policy.

I can't see the comments, so have no idea, and re rooting for Iran. I do not see why people can't. Those folk maybe are just as sure their system is good, same as Trumpsters think theirs is.

Morning here, and just woke up to the news that Ayatollah Khamenei is dead. My first thought was this:

"Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific."

When I was a kid watching Torah Torah Torah, it was ingrained in me that sneak attacks were nasty. That we in the west would never do anything so bad. We would play by the rules, even when "the others" did not. It's what made us different. and it is what made our way better.

And here we are, Trump just done a Pearl Harbour on another nation.

Now, I reckon that if Torah Torah Torah was put on the telly today, the same people in the US, jumping for joy about Trumps attack, would be muttering "barstewerds" at the scene where the Japanese Ambassador turns up late with the declaration of war.

First we had Maduro. Now we have Ayatollah Khamenei. Who is next ?

Trump using his new tactic, attack instead of talk.

Infamy indeed.

And sorry, can't use that word without :

"Infamy, infamy, they all have it infamy"

Edit - formating.

RedTagAlan · 01/03/2026 03:16

A bit more thinking, I don't think my post above about Torah Torah Torah is a whataboutism, or a deflection. It's about international norms.

Trump is basically saying his system is best. His ideology beats all. Even though he has no ideology, and he appears to barely know how his own country works.

He is doing the might is right. That he is right. While I think he could barely hold a bar conversation about theocracy v democracy v single party state v absolute monarchy. Never mind the massive amounts of variations of these. Never mind if we got into the intricacies of self determination.

So now national leaders need to sleep in bunkers.

Now for a whataboutism. Duterte, ex prez of the Philippines is in the Hague. Crimes against Humanity. But Trump is totally immune. Because he has the biggest guns. And by Trumps logic, anyone who still supports Duterte, just kill all them ? Except Trump got on great with him, as I recall.

RedTagAlan · 01/03/2026 05:15

Sorry to hog the thread. Time zones and all that :

Just watched RTE telly news. I can only get RTE player. ( Yes, I watch Fair City these days).

Seeing these celibrations over the death of Khamenei is great to see, but my thought is to put my cold hearted political thinking hat on. I am a lay person at politics, and my thought is, what are these folk, what are their politics, what do they want ? Do they want a different theocracy, a Monarchy, Communism, capitalism, democracy ?

Trump of course, he sees people dancing in the street and he takes the simplest view: "they love me blah blah". But he has no idea of the numbers.

I think the way to tackle authoritarian states is by example. Set an example of a rebuilt State working, and say, see what can happen.

With this idea, I reckon the world is blowing the chance of that already, because there is Syria, a near blank canvas, but a canvas with enough rips and tears that it would be a great demonstration of what CAN happen. And Syria also appears to have a decent guy... so far.

Get the Syrians together, the clerics, political scientists, bring in the communists, socialists, capitalists, theocrats, separatists etc, shut them all into a closed resort, total secrecy, and hammer out a couple of constitutions. Then publish the constitutions, have the masses debate them, then vote. I include clerics because really, who knows.

The secrecy is important, because it takes repercussions out. In private. a Chinese communist or an American Capitalist might say, " Actually. my system fails on this point". So they need protected.

Let the Syrians decide, based on honest frank discussions, advice and experience.

Then back them up as needed, to support what they vote for. Hopefully without the battles for influence.

And if, a big if, that works, then we can say, "This could be you". Here is a template.

But the way Trump is doing this? Nah.

TiredCatLady · 01/03/2026 05:24

Historically, cutting the proverbial head off the snake hasn’t gone too well for the US. I wouldn’t assume the Shah’s son to magically wind up in charge, put it that way.

Four USAF Stratotankers just stopped into Israel, at least three more en route.

RedTagAlan · 01/03/2026 05:30

"“It’s a slap in the face of the United States Congress. The president has launched an illegal war when there is no imminent threat. He did not consult with Congress or allow for a debate in Congress, which even George W. Bush did,” Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California told CNN on Saturday morning."

Trump is not a good advert for democracy.

"head off the snake" indeed, as @TiredCatLady points out.
