A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Oh FFS, she is so terribly, terribly ‘woke’ and immersed in DEI nonsense. ‘Gender champion’ when at the Home Office.

"Of the six Whitehall inclusion champions, civil servants have named Ms Romeo as one of the most keen proponents of identity politics.
This includes opening gender-neutral toilets for trans and non-binary staff in the Department for International Trade, working closely with the trans activist charity Stonewall, and consistently emailing staff about events such as Transgender Awareness Week and Non-Binary Awareness Week.
An official who worked closely with the mandarin said: "Antonia Romeo is the Queen of woke.
"During my entire civil service career, I have never seen anyone push the woke agenda harder than her.”"

Omigod! Talk about the gvt STILL not reading the room….

Antonia Romeo has been appointed cabinet secretary. The press will have a field day if the rumours about her are true.

There's so many red flags with this. Will no-one stand up to Starmer and shout wrongun!!

DancingFerret · 19/02/2026 13:26

The Telegraph: All the wrongs committed against this country since Margaret Thatcher was effectively deposed - and Antonia Romeo's appointment is another one for that list.

Vast forces are mobilising to stop Britain’s only real chance of survival

The plot to topple the next Right-wing government has already begun

I remember when Carney got into the bank of England. This is a bad idea.

Sobering article!

We certainly need to quit funnelling taxes to charities who then turn around and lobby the government for more money.

I think its now established that Starmer has no issue with appointing known wrong-uns.
He probably decided that he must appoint a woman, to combat his woman problem. Unfortunately for him, the fish rots from the head down - as Starner himself once said.

CaveMum · 19/02/2026 16:38

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s appointed a woman fully knowing she won’t last long just so he can say “But I did appoint a woman” before going back to the boys club.

On Monday, the news broke that the Ministry of Justice had ordered the deletion of the UK’s single largest court reporting archive. Courtsdesk, a private company which entered into an agreement with the Government in 2020, holds records from millions of magistrates’ court cases. These records can be accessed by journalists, ensuring that the public has some way of finding out about what’s happening in our justice system.

But if the Government gets their way, journalists and investigators will lose access to millions of historic magistrates’ cases. The same goes for the upcoming national inquiry into grooming gangs, which will no longer be able to use these records to make links, identify patterns, or uncover networks of grooming and abuse.

The Government initially said that this was because of data rules. Then, in the House of Commons, Justice Minister Sarah Sackman claimed that Courtsdesk had shared sensitive data with an AI company, in breach of their agreement with the Government.

It turns out that none of this is true. In a truly damning blog post, the CEO of Courtsdesk totally took apart these claims. It turns out that the firm never shared sensitive information for commercial purposes, had never breached the agreement made with the Government, and spent months trying to speak to officials after they made the initial claim.

Most damningly, it turns out that the Ministry of Justice didn’t even consider this so-called breach to be worth reporting to the Information Commissioner’s Office. If it had been as serious as Ms Sackman claimed, she would have needed to report it within 72 hours.

Good news on this. Courtsdesk have been instructed by UK govt legal dept to pause deletion of the archive. 👍

Yes I agree. Glass cliff edge.

I hear you, just generally about Labour.

Sir Keir Starmer is blocking a request by President Trump to allow American planes to use British bases to attack Iran, telling him that it would be in breach of international law.

In a rift with Washington, the prime minister is understood to have told Trump that the UK would not allow the use of British facilities at Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, which is home to America’s fleet of heavy bombers in Europe.

Can you buy The Telegraph locally?

I tried to get one this morning but failed. I usually buy the times but I fancied a change today. I went to my local newsagents and my nearest supermarket, neither sell the telegraph.

Wow- this is very serious. I don’t understand all this enough to have an opinion yet, but telling Trump no doesn’t go well. All Starmer’s grovelling will be for nothing. Iran are not “the good guys”

Well Starmer doesn't appear to understand the law particularly well based on his track record of u turns. So to throw this in now at the last minute is amateur hour.

We're such an embarrassment on the world stage.

Julen7 · 20/02/2026 12:16

At least we have the upcoming Gorton and Denton by election to look forward to.

redange · 20/02/2026 12:20

I watched online the Hustings for the Gorton and Denton By-Election which was presented by the Manchester Evening News. The Green Candidate Hannah Spencer who is odds on to win sounded and looked like she was in a campaign to be the junior year 11 Prefect ! She is absolutely appalling and totally unsuitable to become an MP . Matt Goodwin was outstanding because he is a 'Doctor of Politics' The Conservative Candidate is also excellent Charlotte Cadden has been a senior Policewoman for 30 years. The Lib Dem is a typical one of them Jackie Pearcy make a lot of 'ramblings' about society but achieve nothing. The Labour Candidate is straight out of Labour Casting and mates with with Mr Manchester 'Andy' and due to having nothing to say had a go at Matt Goodwin saying the presence of his bodyguards are offensive to multi-faith groups...

redange · 20/02/2026 12:37

My previous post has been cancelled . I must have been over hyped with my views about banning our greatest friend from using their own facilities because they are located in the UK.

Back Chagos, or we won't let you use the airbases seems to be Starmer's approach. He's unfit for office.
