A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@justasking111 oh I wonder what's caused the shortage

My random thoughts today while having a tea break

Chagos - if I had more time I'd look into that more. Did the previous government start work on that deal?

Crazy Hannah from the Green party - I would really like to see somebody interview her properly. I don't generally pay much attention to the Greens so maybe somebody has interviewed her properly?

For the bookies to have them as the favourite in G&D is really alarming

I genuinely wonder if she and ZP have been selected by some kind of disruptive force. There's a point where the madness becomes a bit too - uniform? I know what happens in the US ends up here but still....

Thousands of hip operations to be cancelled for two months because of a shortage of the cement needed for the operations. In the telegraph apparently.

It’s a ‘critical machine failure’ at the German supplier of bone cement.

Starmer probably caused it though 😁Looked at it funny.

(Seriously annoying though as I am waiting for my hip to be replaced! I have given up on the NHS and will see a surgeon privately next week, but this is goingt o affect everyone, NHS and private).

JaneVtwaddle · 18/02/2026 15:09

@zurigo I have no doubt if sunak had remained we would be in a vastly different place. Ie positive, green shoots coming through !
No despeeate.hoplesssness and also more prospects for our young.

We need immediate student loans help it's a national travesty our loans are the worst according to the times out of 38 welrhy nations like us ! Or something close to that !
RR needs to sort out all those on plan two and even pay back the massive interest they have paid

When our young going to uni or not have no hope.are lost as a country

I wonder if any of the staunch pro Labour who post how well they’re doing are realising what the job situation is that they voted for.

Any pennies dropping yet. Any of them have young adult dc even looking for work.

No because they are the party of lies they will obfuscate and look in other directions ,use smoke and mirrors and re frame arguments to create their own reality .

See re educations under stalin and mao

I'm holding up 6 fingers.

I'm booked in private next month. The Welsh NHS wouldn't even refer me to a consultant. So I'm worried now

justasking111 · 18/02/2026 17:03

The Welsh government have announced sorta they've decided what to do about the 20mph speed limits. But they'll not detail where 🙄

The oracle in the armchair said I'm panicking over nothing. I'd have heard by now. He hasn't read the article, he just knows.

Eh? So are they scrapping it?

Have Plaid and Reform said what they would do? I would vote for anyone who said they'd put it back to 30mph. I don't know how you cope with it!

OFGS. Starmer said its not his fault that he tried to cancel elections. Its the fault of the councils who said yes.

Maybe @justasking111 might have the best insight.

Plaid not that different from Labour really? Possibly potential to be even worse? Quite a challenge and I might be being a bit u with that statement.

Trump is attacking the Chagos deal again 😁

Ha good one, Chagos is such a bad deal. Starmer’s going to be remembered for that and Mandelson.

WellErrr · 18/02/2026 20:36

I’m no Trump fan but I can’t disagree with him here.

Pacificsunshine · 18/02/2026 20:45

Why is Starmer so keen on Chagos? At first I thought it was his human rights lawyer background. But this seems anything but fair to the Chagosians. So he isn’t putting any moral outrage right.

I begin to wonder if he is upstanding as we all think.

EmeraldRoulette · 18/02/2026 21:42

Thanks for the info about the hip replacement issues

@justasking111 I hope everything works out all right for you.

I was asking about Chagos earlier because I had a feeling it was going to kick off. There are people defending it, but my confusion is that it doesn't seem to have been asked for? I appreciate if they want a bigger exclusion zone they have to offer something in return, but did it have to be this? Also can't work out if it's true that it started under the previous government - I don't think it did.

The amount of outright lying and gaslighting I am seeing from Labour defenders (online) is quite something.

Yep. Just reading some still pro Labour posts I think state dependency might win out over jobs and it’s worrying.

TheNuthatch · 19/02/2026 10:05

Good morning.
Sleet, rain and bloody freezing here today. Can't wait for spring.

I thought this was interesting from YouGov. Gives me hope that away from MN, most people understand what's happening with jobs.

Thanks for this. Much needed. Looking at mn you’d think more state dependency is the answer.

Antonia Romeo has been appointed cabinet secretary. The press will have a field day if the rumours about her are true.

Antonia Romeo has been appointed cabinet secretary. The press will have a field day if the rumours about her are true.

Oh FFS, she is so terribly, terribly ‘woke’ and immersed in DEI nonsense. ‘Gender champion’ when at the Home Office.

"Of the six Whitehall inclusion champions, civil servants have named Ms Romeo as one of the most keen proponents of identity politics.
This includes opening gender-neutral toilets for trans and non-binary staff in the Department for International Trade, working closely with the trans activist charity Stonewall, and consistently emailing staff about events such as Transgender Awareness Week and Non-Binary Awareness Week.
An official who worked closely with the mandarin said: "Antonia Romeo is the Queen of woke.
"During my entire civil service career, I have never seen anyone push the woke agenda harder than her.”"

TheNuthatch · 19/02/2026 11:20

Excellent- not. 🙄 I didn't know she was also one of them.
Just clocked there's a thread about her in chat. Some interesting contributions on there from other civil service employees.
