A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

My previous post has been cancelled . I must have been over hyped with my views about banning our greatest friend from using their own facilities because they are located in the UK.

We have lurkers with nothing better to do with their time than study posts on this thread, with a copy of talk guidelines in their hand.
I read it before it was deleted. 👍

I'm not surprised by your summary of the hustings. The bbc went to interview all the candidates a couple of weeks ago. Spencer arrived an hour late, wearing scruffy clothes with nothing useful to say.
Obviously you and I lean differently, but I really like the conservative candidate. She doesn't stand a chance in GM, but I hope to see her selected elsewhere.

Some do seem annoyed that we get to chat here free from the usual abuse.

They don’t help their Labour cause.

Seriously? Lots of loony left lurkers around today (God am I even allowed to say that?)

@TheNuthatch there were copies of the Telegraph in our Tesco. After your post I did wonder if that had been cancelled too.

That Diego Garcia and Fairford military denial to the US seems, if true, very serious.

Not only are we blocking US action, which is a bad position to take generally, but we’re blocking US action against a murderous mad-dog terrorist state. We look like Iranian stooges. The Iranian regime is murdering dozens of thousands of its own people and sponsoring terrorism across the Middle East and elsewhere. Blood on Starmer’s hands if he doesn’t relent.

zurigo · 20/02/2026 13:26

I suspect Starmer et al have made a political calculation re: US, airbases and planes bound for bombing the shit out of Iran. They know we have a large and vocal Muslim population, they have watched the number of people who have marched for Gaza over the past few years and they know that Trump is unpopular with the UK populace. I'm guessing that they've decided that the bigger risk to their popularity is to be seen as Trump's 'poodle' (remember Blair, Bush and Iraq?) and decided that the best course of action is to just stay out of it. That's my take anyway.

justasking111 · 20/02/2026 13:30

Seems such a long time since Iran kicked off the traces and the suffering began. I do admire their determination.

I'm not sure where USA can drop bombs without hurting innocent people though so I hope for a peaceful transition.

I agree. “International law” is a fig leaf for Starmer’s cynical electoral calculation.

Thanks for looking. I just tried another shop about two miles away, and they don't sell it either. I've never noticed before that you can't buy the telegraph where I live. I need to move somewhere less red.

Thank You Nuthatch

I am going to throw something out in to the air:

I wonder if the continued nuttiness and stupidity of Ben Habib and Rupert Lowe and some of the mad ramblings from both of them, might mean the Conservative Party and Reform can have some serious discussions between them.

The Country is desperate and in dire need of 'Centre Right' Government (though in reality just 'Centre' Government that does not really learns rightward. It is just that 'Centre Left' today is really 'Hard Left' . This being the reason why Kate Hoey, Simon Danczuk are supporters . Therefore, at the next election it is vital the country elects at least 350 MP's from Reform and the Conservative Party combined . Otherwise, we are heading as a country into the 'abyss'. I know that is a Political term used at all Elections but this time It cannot be a more truthful statement.

redange · 20/02/2026 13:49

Kate Hoey, Simon Danczuk Reform Supporters. Kate Hoey has come out and said she would Vote Reform if able to do so if Reform where to stand in Northern Ireland Danczuk has stood for Rochdale as a Reform Candidate . I think one of the strengths of Reform it enables 'Good' sensible Old/Ex Labour People an opportunity to vote for something they believe in, as opposed to having to switch 'Tribes'.

Yvette Cooper was asked about this, and she refused to deny it. I think its true, all the serious news outlets are reporting the same. She is meeting with Rubio today, presumably to try and get the US back on-side re Chagos.
I agree, the UK could end up on the wrong side of history if the govt continue with their games.

Reading some posts on MN, many on the so called 'left' simply cannot fathom how voters can switch from Labour to Reform. It makes perfect sense to me, going off my friends and family. I think there's a huge difference in priorities for northern wc Labour voters, and those living in the 'shires.

We are in South West, Con before last election, now LibDem.

Pacificsunshine · 20/02/2026 14:04

There is no such thing as international law, unless there is the hard power to enforce it.

Only the US is in a position to do that…and they don’t want to be the world’s policeman anymore. So I think Hermer and Starmer are away with the fairies.

I'm reminded of this Pet Shop Boys track - "I'm With Stupid".

The lyrics are as apt now as they were 10 years ago once you swop out the names.

The pro Labour posts don’t seem to be helping anyway with triple loss.

Would do another link but of course the BBC won’t focus on three losses.

You really do have to wonder whether Labour can survive the next GE. If events turn against the government any further there will be so few safe Labour seats that they will become a rump even smaller than the present Tories.

Even if the Tories are reduced to irrelevance after the next GE it’s not hard to see their revival if Reform collapses. Labour don’t have a way back like that. After Labour crashes the Libs will be back in business in a very big way, and the Greens may - incredibly - become a real force.

Yep.
More in common recent MRP has Labour down to 85 seats, mainly concentrated around London. I think the greens will reduce that further if Starmer sticks around.

Zack Polanski is considering running as the Green candidate in Starmer's constituency. ZP is not an MP so will need a seat at the next GE. He has a short list of constituencies, and Starmer's is on the list. 😂

The conservatives will fight their way back in time, they always do.

Why is Starmer so keen on Chagos? At first I thought it was his human rights lawyer background. But this seems anything but fair to the Chagosians. So he isn’t putting any moral outrage right.

I begin to wonder if he is upstanding as we all think.

Just heard a Spectator podcast which mentioned, without making the argument, that his friend got £8m for services yo Maritius.
