Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

During a visit to London we visited St Paul's Cathedral and decided to climb the hundreds of steps to the top of the dome.
Fine really, it was a spiral staircase which got steeper and tighter as we approached the top.
We then idiotically decided to climb to the golden gallery I think it's called on a see through metal spiral ladder thing that
Stuck out directly over the floor hundreds of feet down.
I have never been so scared in my life, started shaking and froze, convinced i was going to fall. Only problem was there was a queue of people behind us.
Keep going he said I can't I whimpered.
Eventually I had to move but my god I still have nightmares about it to this day.In fact it's turned into a recurring dream I have occasionally. Never again I said but stupidly agreed to visit the Eiffel Tower the following year.
We had paid to go to the top, but I escaped at the first stage and ran down the stairs on shaking legs, leaving the others gob smacked 🤣

I can feel the panic in this, especially with the pressure of so many other people around!

I will never live in a high rise with a balcony.

I used be on the 18th floor on one near Canary Wharf, it was so high up, people just little dots. The view was fantastic year round.

But so windy. And the glass balustrades only come up to waist height. I ended up deciding not to walk on and just sit after a near miss. I had nightmares beside of it, really scary.

Roller skating.

I saw a taster session of roller derby advertised, and thought I'd go along. I was utterly hopeless and fell over constantly.
Driving home, I thought, "hmm, my elbow doesn't feel quite right." Went to bed, just thinking I'd sprained it.
Woke up again about an hour later, a little voice in the back of my head saying something wasn't right... Drove myself to hospital... Broken.

Found out later that my tailbone was also broken.

Elbow recovered, albeit slowly, tailbone has never been the same. 15 years later it still gives me jip if I sit in the wrong sort of chair for too long.

Go to watch ‘Hamilton’ at the theatre . Couldn’t follow what was happening, they rap all the way through and talk way too fast . And I couldn’t make out which one of the 80 people on stage was actually rapping . Hated it , never again .

Me too! But until now I’ve never met anyone who agrees with me. The cheering loons around me at the theatre appeared to be in a cult.

I’ve still no idea what it was all about.

Hershey’s chocolate smells like stinky feet

For me, it tastes OK for a second, then the aftertaste of vomit kicks in. I've no idea why Americans like it.

😆I mean, yes I could get up. But the whole picture you've painted sounds pretty miserable 😂

Can you get up without immediately sliding down the icy slope at speed because your feet are attached to slidy planks? That’s the challenge.

I love skiing but if I hadn’t learned as a child I reckon I’d have swerved the whole thing. Kudos to anyone who learns age 30+.

I tried to watch a recorded version of it with subtitles. I gave up after half an hour. It was so boring.

minipie · 10/02/2026 11:10

Laughing at the Hamilton comments.

I think the lyrics are very clever but not convinced it’s all that enjoyable to watch. Possibly better to read than watch. Bit like a lot of Shakespeare <sacrilege>

It's got butyric acid in it, which is literally vomit smell!

Bumper cars at the fair

My ex and I went to a fair and I said id never done the bumper cars in my life so he suggested we give it a go

I dont drive but he does

The twat made a beeline at me,ramming into me really hard which shunted me,forward first into a corner

I couldn't reverse no matter how hard I tried and the belt thingy was rubbing my neck as it was so tight

The arsehole kept coming back round just to hit me again and again and was driving round smirking and waving at me-really gloating at me

Utter waste of a few quid and I was so angry at him,we broke up as soon as we got off

Plus because the belt had rubbed so badly,it looked like I had a giant lovebite from neck to breast for weeks

Never ever again

YourOnMute · 10/02/2026 11:33

Anything at a funfair.
Scuba diving.
Boxercise or whatever you call it when you have to box during the class.
Also Hamilton.
Concerts and music festivals.

Yes! Had to ask the waiter to remove the plate- the smell made me gag.

I've just googled it and feel queasy having read it!

This is epic.

It was an absolute nightmare and went on all night. I hated every minute and felt like it would never end. I have no idea why anyone would want such an experience but acid was actually quite popular. Does anyone still use it?

I think that a lot of people who go to see it and eulogise about it don't know much about the history behind it! I fell asleep when it was on TV at someone's house.

Pregnancy/having a baby. Technically did pregnancy twice but the first one didn't last very long. Sad Second pregnancy resulted in DS and I love him so much, but it's such hard work, and I needed a c section because of pre-eclampsia. I don't want to go through any of that again! I was so big I could barely walk and couldn't get my socks on.

Getting married. Not doing that again either!

Can you elaborate on the scary person in Greece, if not triggering for you

Wanted to take me on a boat and I felt I wouldn't return.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 10/02/2026 12:28

Boats. Christ. 🤢
I genuinely thought i was going to die from the seasickness.
I’ve never felt that unwell in my life.

It was the middle of the Atlantic, so, to describe the water as ‘choppy’ is the understatement of the year.

Never again. 🙅‍♀️ Terra firma only for me now.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 10/02/2026 12:29

Re:Hamilton, I just remember a lot of ranting and rows and rows of camel toes in weird pale jodhpurs.

It was like a very expensive fever dream.

Know how you feel. Four hour ferry ride to the Isle of Man was a nightmare - as soon as I got the smell of the diesel engines at the quayside my stomach turned. I’ve never been so glad when the relatives who lived there moved back to the mainland.

Gliding.

IT WAS HELL IN THE SKY. I have never ever felt so nauseous in my life. I thought my brain would fall out of my ears and i would vomit myself inside out.

I wouldn’t do it again if you paid me a million pounds!!!

Hell in the sky 😂😂😂

I've skiied since I was a kid, but haven't been much as an adult as, to be honest, DH wasn't keen to try it and much prefers to go on holiday to warm/tropical places. Anyway I've now recruited our kids (7 and 3) to winter sports. I've taught them both to skate, DD figure skates and plays hockey, DS is too young to do much more than skate round but he asks his sister to shove him into the boards and likes a scrap so I reckon he'll play hockey. They've also both had indoor ski lessons and loved it. DH finally gave it a try and oh my god it was a disaster, I did the beginner lesson with him because I haven't skiied in years. He lasted 20 minutes out of a 2 hour session, he literally could not stay on his feet, it was like a comedy sketch, I have no idea how he managed to fall in so may varied ways. By the time I finished the lesson he'd had 3 beers in the bar, and the first thing he said when he saw me was "NEVER again". 😂😂😂
So naturally we're going to lake Tahoe at Easter. I reckon I might get him to give snowboarding a try......

ArticWillow · 10/02/2026 12:51

Jumping off a Diving board - did it with DC on holiday... 3m was the straw that broke the camels back. Just horrible flying through the air and hitting the concrete like water that also gives you the most uncomfortable wedgy. Just no.

Stop torturing the bloke!
This was me... first day before ski school, group of friends and I went up on the ski lift, they skied down, I got stuck up there a blizzard started, they had to send mountain rescue!
1st day at ski school, didn't realise I had the boots on the wrong feet and whilst we were all stationery, I slipped sideways into snow up to my waist and waited for someone to get me out. Needless to say, no one did. The whole week was unbelievable hell until I borrowed a bandage to strap my arm up and walk around the beautiful place we were at, pretending I had fractured my arm. You were an alien if you weren't up on the mountains ski-ing, hence the pretend injury!

Then everyone cheered when King George came on like he was Harry Styles. Couldn’t even fall asleep as everyone was whooping and whistling so much.

Maybe Americans get it?
