Tried it once ...... never again!!

Just caught a bit of the Winter Olympics on TV and was reminded of the one and only time I tried skiing. It was one of the worst and most terrifying experiences of my life and I will definitely not, never, ever be doing it again!!

Ditto, my only experience of scuba diving .... still having nightmares years later!!!!!

Both these activities are on my "Tried it once but never again" list. Anyone else got a Never Again experience?

Go Ape. Terrifying

A Lochs & Glens coach tour

Cocaine. (Well, twice.) It was too good, and given that it’s totally unethical, quite apart from its legality, I couldn’t risk it becoming a habit.

A pole fitness class

GoGoSuperBug · 09/02/2026 11:44

Bungee jumping, I am glad I did it but don’t fancy a repeat. I just about made it to the toilet before vomiting and spent the rest of the day in bed feeling sick.

CoolFineDoneWicked · 09/02/2026 11:45

Bungee jumping. Was absolutely awful and I'm not even glad I tried it. No upsides whatsoever.

Wonderknicks · 09/02/2026 11:45

Caving. Signed up in the first week of uni in a moment of madness. Terrifying, cold, wet & dark.

SettingSunStillness · 09/02/2026 11:45

Yes yes yes to Go Ape.
I genuinely thought my child would fall and die.

Squirrelchops1 · 09/02/2026 11:46

I'm with you re scuba diving. I had about a million panic attacks during the course of the day. I really wanted to do it.
Then when we were abroad a very experienced scuba couple said unless I kept up with doing it, it wasn't worth the bother and you see as much snorkeling if you're a beginner!
I too want to try skiing but I think OP we're very similar so I'll give it a miss.

Flying in a light aircraft, it was a sightseeing trip on holiday, I felt so sick and it was very noisy and bouncy. I have been OK in a small helicopter though.

Squirrelsnut · 09/02/2026 11:46

A big roller coaster. It hurt my neck and I was petrified and nauseous.

EffectivelyDaydreaming · 09/02/2026 11:46

I have never done most of these because I find the thought terrifying.

TigerRag · 09/02/2026 11:47

Cannabis

Blueuggboots · 09/02/2026 11:47

bounce fit, or whatever it is called on a mini trampet thing. My poor pelvic floor!!

skiing definitely. Hated it!!

ThisAutumnTown · 09/02/2026 11:48

White water rafting on the Nile.
I’ve always been into extreme sports but this one scared the life out of me. I got thrown out of the raft coming down a rapid and when I came up, the raft was over my head. I was only under it for a matter of seconds but it felt like a lifetime and I genuinely thought I would drown.

Zumba

FryingPam · 09/02/2026 11:50

Right there with some of you, Go Ape is a never again, and I’m also not keen on trying scuba diving again. Won’t even try bungee once.

GaelsBlue · 09/02/2026 11:50

LSD 50 odd years ago. Bloody hell that was an experience never to be repeated 🤯

Lemonyyy · 09/02/2026 11:54

Ditto white water rafting. I’ve done a fair bit of white water kayaking but went rafting on really big water at a higher grade than I’d ever paddled and all I could think the whole time was “if I fall out I will die”

that and the mad French instructor yelling unintelligible instructions and it’s not an experience I’m keen to repeat!

Carriemac · 09/02/2026 11:54

Caving . Worst day of my life :)

Redvbl · 09/02/2026 11:56

Ditto skiing Never again, despite ongoing fantasies that I'd be brill at it. I was, in fact terrified and fell badly on day 3 out of 5.

Alcohol - I was plied with so much alcohol (by my 'friends') at just 18 that I ended up in hospital. I was discharged at 10am the next day and my mother had brought my clothes and packed me off to sixth form. I was so ill, humiliated and tired that it put me off drinking more than a sip of alcohol for ever more. Even 20 years later, I will only drink a glass of wine alone or with someone I trust. I don't keep it in the house and can go years without touching it.

Kadiofakit · 09/02/2026 11:56

Yoga - actually tried a 3 week course but it really isn't for me

NeedingAHand · 09/02/2026 11:56

Pot holing/caving. Was made to go as a kid as part of a school trip despite telling the teachers I was feeling claustrophobic. (Good ol’ early 90s teaching!) Had a panic attack mid pot hole stuck behind another kid. Never, ever again. Ever.

Paint balling. Not terrifying or anything like that, just not very fun.

I can’t think of anything more terrifying. That was just after watching some people doing it on tv, so claustrophobic.
