I thought it was broccoli too 🤣 thought, I've never seen broccoli on a salad, I might give it a go.

I’m not big on salad leaves, cucumber etc but I do like a kind of main meal salad with blanched and chilled broccoli, some kind of grain (couscous, pasta etc) feta cheese,
olives and a couple of cherry tomatoes and avocado.

Sartre · 06/02/2026 15:35

Looks massive to me and also extremely calorific! Pesto and feta have so many calories, kind of negates the benefit of a salad but I’m sure twas delicious.

Only if you think the ‘benefit’ of a salad is that it’s low-calorie?

DaisyMayBojangles · 06/02/2026 15:38

It’s ok I intend to feast on fresh air sandwiches and the tears of angels over the weekend to atone for my salad-gluttony.
I may give myself a light birching too.

I have always imagined the MN Massive Salad to be in an enormous bowl and have those wooden salad servers poking out of the top. Yours looks nice 😁

I had one of these in New York a long time ago! It was amazing!!

I think the point was, that salads can contain more calories than you realise, depending what's in them. Pesto is also not particularly healthy in vast heaps.

Also, why are those crisps middle class or poncey?

Piknik · 06/02/2026 15:45

Gosh that would feed us for a week here OP. I mean we might add a few bits of shredded chicken from the extra-small roast chicken that has fed the four of us for a fortnight now, but it's pretty massive.

Agree Fresh Air sandwiches for the rest of the weekend although you might be allowed a spoonful of seeds and a green tea. I'm off to have my half a square of dark chocolate now - that should satisfy by sweet craving for at least a month.

DaisyMayBojangles · 06/02/2026 15:49

Sounds heavenly!

I may push the boat out and treat myself to a small bowl of bone soup too

Half a square? Well, I suppose that's understandable if you're obese.

meh , it’s Friday , I was thinking it had elephant leg kebab underneath !

TrickyD · 06/02/2026 15:52

No MN salad is complete without an accompaniment of crusty bread.

CurlewKate · 06/02/2026 15:54

A bit of Kewpie Roasted Sesame Dressing instead of pesto and it’d be perfect..

ZoomerBoomer · 06/02/2026 15:54

I hate salad and anything other than a garnish is viewed as a massive salad. That’s a massive salad, I’d rather eat pies.

BillieWiper · 06/02/2026 15:55

Could you finish it? Did you feel full until your next meal? It looks substantial but to me a 'massive salad' might be home made and in a big giant bowl that a few people served themselves from? Or maybe that it would last one person two or three meals?

DaisyMayBojangles · 06/02/2026 16:00

I did finish it.. and I’m having fish pie for dinner later too! 😮😮😮

I think a lot of people on this thread need to look into the lore of the Mumnset Massive Salad and the magical never ending roast chicken…

BustyLaRoux · 06/02/2026 16:04

Oh no no, I couldn’t eat all of that!

caringcarer · 06/02/2026 16:04

Surely normal size for a lunch.

I still remember the poster who used to roast a chicken, carve the breast and throw the rest away….

Medium salad. Give your head a wobble.

Yep. Tip it out onto a dinner plate and it won't look (wouldn't have looked) as big.

TessSaysYes · 06/02/2026 16:09

Why ask? Eat what you like.
If you re a healthy weight, don't let anyone shame you, re: your portions.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/02/2026 16:10

I mean, it's fine I suppose but I hope you won't be needing to eat again today. How could anyone after eating all that?!

Maybe in a couple of days time you could have some pate, though...

Take out the broccoli and it looks tiny

I thought that was a shedload of broccoli as well and though 'I'm not sure I could eat that much raw broccoli in one sitting.'
