I don’t really get the angst about u turns. Better to do that than carry on doing the wrong thing.

I have a bigger problem with the likes of Farage changing on things like the 2 child benefit just to be contrary.

PandoraSocks · 16/02/2026 21:16

I wonder if anyone ever kept a tally on u-turns for the period 2010-2024. If not, why now?

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/02/2026 21:23

May’s government had loads, didn’t they?

May’s government had loads, didn’t they?

I think so. Cameron's had some too.

placemats · 16/02/2026 22:39

So did Thatcher. Despite her assertion that she wasn't for turning.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/02/2026 22:44

Tbf to Maybshe did have an absolutely mental back bench and was attempting to try and get a Brexit deal that would not absolutely stuff the country and might get past her own MPs.

Those were some mad times. Star chambers and having to whip your MPs to vote against the bill you had tabled because somebody had added an amendment which passed.

cardibach · 16/02/2026 22:50

Agreed @placemats
Taking legal advice isn’t a u turn. I’m confused by why that is the advice though. It’s seems bonkers when it’s something that’s been done frequently in the past.

placemats · 16/02/2026 23:38

I think Farage has scored an own goal on this.

placemats · 16/02/2026 23:52

All the councils asked for a delay. In a year's time they won't exist and will have to do it all again.

Notonthestairs · 17/02/2026 00:01

£63 million pounds of additional funding required to run the elections (that will have to be repeated) according to the Times.

You’ve sort of already lost by having Braverman as your MP whichever party she is in.

True 🫣😂

Alexandra2001 · 17/02/2026 07:02

placemats · 16/02/2026 21:00

It's not a u-turn 😂

Its another u-turn on top of many others.

Its reported as such on every news outlet and shows what a complete shambles no10 is in.

Laughing emoji's or not, its pathetic.

This is going to blow some people's heads

Employment rates for non-EU born are now above those for the UK born.

Gap used be nearly 10 percentage points.

A tribute to the success of UK immigration/immigrants and labour market integration, especially in recent years.

Something government should celebrate..

Well the decision avoided a court case, at least. Farage would have wrung every last drop of self aggrandisement from that.

It will very old news by the time the GE comes around. By which time the "re" parties will have hopefully clawed each other to bits.

Have we forgotten that we all voted in the 2017 EU elections ?

Hold on. Aren't they all hiring Rolls Royces to collect their benefits and deliver them to a 5* hotel ?

It being reported like that in no way means it is one. They followed established pre event in granting delays for councils which are about to disappear. Farage decided to raise a who ha. They decided not to waste time and money fighting it. It wasn’t a policy, so it’s not a u turn.

RIP to Jesse Jackson today. I await Trump's tribute.

Does that 4.6m include children?

Given the success of reform in councils so far getting all the councillors he’ll be crowing about re elected in 12 months is going to be an uphill struggle for Farage.
