Does that 4.6m include children?

That struck me. But apparently the electorate for the 2025 elections was 13.7 million. So for 30 councils it may not be too far wide of the mark.

I’d love to see the legal guidance on this though. I’m assuming it may have something to do with the 5 councils who already had their election delayed by 12 months.

For those who like polls, Reform are on their lowest polling numbers.

Might pick up now they are announcing their shadow cabinet

Or maybe it's the Goodwin effect

Jenrick as chancellor? He was a solicitor in corporate law and a director of Christie's auction house before entering Parliament. His time as junior minister and minister was woeful, Philip Hollobone said critically that Jenrick and the office Minister of State for Immigration "have the first clue what they are doing".

Jenrick is a disaster with everything he does. He didn't even manage to get his defection to Reform right. What a joke.

You can only be all things to all men (again. a word I use deliberately) in the absence of policy.

It would be nice if Reform have become the LibDems of the (far) right. A party people like the idea of until they get close.

The polls are all over the place!

I am really wondering about Gorton and Denton. I think it could be a surprising result. So much so I put a bet on the outcome a few days ago. I have never placed a bet before! I will let you know if I win😁. I am being vague as I don't want to jinx it.

Remember to apply the knowledge that you can discount at least 30% of that ...

Tice boasted that his companies saved money by installing solar panels on their buildings and yet called net zero policies "net stupid policies' and "a massive con".

"Genuine experts in their field" my arse.

Yy R.I.P Jesse Jackson.
Insults I should imagine unfortunately, such an odious orange gobshite.

BBC interupted the news about his death by cutting to Farage's 'new conference' 😬

Of course they did. Fuckers.

Notonthestairs · 17/02/2026 12:56

Well, the Tories must be narked at their being a new opposition shadow cabinet.

I noticed Braverman's moan against equality legislation. It's not like historically women have been the beneficiaries. Bloody disabled people dominating the workforce.

Notonthestairs · 17/02/2026 12:56

there not their!

DuncinToffee · 17/02/2026 13:03

Braverman says social transitioning would be banned in all schools, "no ifs or buts". She says the 50% target for university education would be replaced with a 50% target for kids going into trades like electricians and plumbing.

Will this apply to private schools, grammars as well?

Farage insults Financial Times journalist Anna Gross when she asked two questions one on an ICE style migrant immigration centre and why all five named having a private education.

Farage didn't answer either and told her to "Just write some silly story."

Hardly.

Tories could end up in 5th place next GE

Fifth place in votes, but I doubt fifth place in seats somehow, given our voting system.

Meanwhile, a Reform wet dream just got a tiny bit moister, as the mechanism to bar UK citizens from entering the UK get underway. I am guessing that this legislation is on a roadmap to eliminate dual citizenship. Which as we should know isn't something all nations allow.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2d9yk2kpjo

Under the existing rules, a dual national is able to travel to the UK using a passport issued by a second country - but from 25 February that will no longer be the case.
Instead, they will need to show either a British passport, or a document called a certificate of entitlement - and without one of them, they could face being denied the right to travel back to the UK.

A selfie of Jelena smiling at the camera. She has long, straight hair and is wearing a dark jacket.

How are UK passport rules changing for British dual nationals?

Entry requirements to the UK for dual nationals are being overhauled as part of sweeping changes to the immigration system.

It doesn't apply to those who have a European passport and British passport, eg Irish passport holders.

The Latvian person highlighted has duel citizenship but not a British passport. It's a non story.

itsgettingweird · 17/02/2026 15:59

As someone who has Braverman as an MP, works in Education and a disabled ds who went through education here - I can assure people that is NOT an appointment that makes any sense!

But the logical conclusion of the situation is that a British Citizen could be denied the right to enter the UK.

For fun, I asked ChatGPT. It noted that the article is unclear in the extreme, as the changes only applies in situations where carriers are involved.

So yes, clearly a nothing burger. Weather to follow.
