I could rant about this all day.
You might have noticed that historians have mostly stopped using the word "Anglo Saxon" and use the word "old English" more frequently now.
It's because while Anglo Saxon can be a race/tribe (the Angles and the Saxons) it was used more commonly in British history to mean the time period/ language of 450-1066 AD. But because Americans of a certain political bent were using "Anglo-Saxon" to talk about racial identity (and completely misunderstanding the history of the period as well) it became a loaded word. So there was pressure on UK byhistorians/historical societies to switch to Old English to avoid looking like far right types. It's kind of annoying though small in the scheme of things. There was a bit of a hoo haha about it s few years back. https://www.varsity.co.uk/news/27596
It was seen as a reaction to left wing "waecnende" pressure. But that only came about because of right wing nuttiness. I do resent in general the way American craziness has to infect discourse here and Musk (and American fanboys like Konstantin Kissin) are a much bigger threat to English culture and identity than Muslims or immigrants.
