Ofcourse it is just plain racism hiding behind the 'concerned about immigration'

And they are not really hiding anymore

Hi @evenstar I hope you are OK. If you ever need to vent about caring issues, do post here or PM me. I know how difficult things can be 💐 Lovely cross (in both senses of the word!) Bengal.

I think the Telegraph must be really struggling for readers. In my usual the-world-is-ending email* from them today they offered me four months' subscription for £1

25p a month to read their hysteria in the run up to the local and national elections seemed not too expensive. If there are any articles you'd like to read, let me know and I will share.☺️

*Owners of country piles are struggling to sell! I could hardly manage to choke back the tears.

There was a piece in the Telegraph about Green Party campaigners being thrown out of a residential care home - from a post by Matt Goodwin. Couldn't read it obviously, I find it difficult to believe. Any possibility you could share it?

Hopefully this will work.

I treat the Telegraph* exactly as they would have the world treat us. I have fuck all respect for their effort, and only want what they make for free - or at the next best thing as cheap as possible.

Where "the system" allows me to extract value without any input from me I will leverage it.

Fuck them, and the horse they rode in on.

Luckily all this "AI" shite they are running around with makes it trivial. That's when it isn't ripping off content itself.

*Also Mail, Times, Sky.

DuncinToffee · 12/02/2026 09:50

So they were asked to leave and did so?

They managed to get an article out of that.

Thanks @PandoraSocks

I'm wondering how they got into the complex and were they accompanied by a seasoned campaigner. It's essential to approach a complex like that with caution and sensitivity.

Not here much (currently on Jury Service) but wanted to express my disgust at Radcliffe.

countrygirl99 · 12/02/2026 10:13

@Evenstar if your caring responsibilityies are elderly parents there's a long running thread on the elderly parents board called Cockroach Cafe. There's a lot of venting on there and people understand that it gets complicated emotionally and practically. Occasionally gets a pious visitor but they're shown the door pretty quickly.

If he knew his "English" history, he would know that the truth is the "immigrants" won.

Even the immigrants who didn't "win" won - as anybody who has dared venture into the Danelaw would attest.

And we are stronger for it.

Monocultures are so stagnant.

Evenstar · 12/02/2026 10:46

@countrygirl99 thank you, sadly it’s my DH but I am sure as time goes on there may be some useful information there 💐

If the quotation from the candidate about ‘money laundering take aways’ is correct that would be a more useful article.

cardibach · 12/02/2026 10:57

Off piste again - a Ukrainian athlete in the skeleton has a helmet which is a memorial for Ukrainian Olympians who have died in the war. The IoC said he couldn’t wear it despite it being regulation an every way that matters. He said he was going to wear it.
They said no and removed his accreditation so he can’t compete and had to leave. Bloody ridiculous. It’s not a political statement. It’s a regulation helmet.

I'll buy a country pile, my budget is £1.

See how easy it would be to sell if you aren't being a greedy bastard.

LlttledrummergirI · 12/02/2026 11:01

MsJinks · 12/02/2026 07:51

Going off piste - for the figure skating, which I know zilch about tbh but like to watch.
Just seen a whole host of comments (fb) questioning why Lilah and Fear’s dance routine was Scottish and not British - and were they instead competing for Scotland - and other very odd comments - it has just left my mind absolutely boggled!

Given the "patriots" spend their entire lives banging on about indigenous population being invaded and how the traditional heritage of said indigenous population are being lost, you would think they would be cheering a Scotsman embracing his cultural heritage.

Fuckwits.

As @LlttledrummergirI said on the Ukraine thread

They are allowing the Russian flag, and competitors to show emblems of Russia,

Seems the qualifications to be a "patriot" are as vague as those to be a "Christian".

Hitchens razor applies (as ever).

There's a thread about the by-election in the feminism section and I someone there looked at the offending posts and worked out that the green candidate was more likely to be the person** replying to the person who complained about the takeaways not the one actually complaining about takeaways. Although both posters seemed reasonable.

**Based on name, posting history (constant advising on plumbing) etc. Kind of scary how easy it is to work out which posters are which real people though.

Identification by triangulation is trivial. It's how Facebook (for example) can provide almost as much information about non users as it knows about users.

I think that is right.

The Telegraph article quotes a post by MartyHart to be by Hannah. It is pretty clear that it isn't Hannah if you advance search that name.

Absolutely piss poor journalism.

All the more reason that the Telegraph failed to work out who was actually posting the "offensive" quote.
And kind of hypocritical to label it offensive when complaining about takeaways/barbershops etc being used as fronts for laundering money is also something they have done. And reasonably, actual high street money laundering isn't great.

Yeah, I subscribed to the Telegraph because I wanted to avoid being trapped in an echo chamber and it used to be reasonable quality journalism even if the political takes were completely different to mine. But I'm cancelling because the actual quality of journalism is so piss poor. I can read that in the Daily Star for free.
