“I cannot in all good conscience…”
what a duplicitous (and treasonous) prick.

Well he wasn't lying as I don't think he has a conscience, good or otherwise.

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/02/2026 20:11

It always stands out in my head as the worst thing he did. Nothing that happened during Covid should have been a surprise but it rarely gets mentioned because it was before he was PM.

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2026 20:17

He still has his fans.

May didn't trust him with state secrets.

May didn't trust him with state secrets.

I had forgotten that May & security services had to withhold information from Johnson.
You can see given how much influence Bannon had over him.

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/02/2026 20:31

Given Lord Lebedev of Siberia is an actual thing despite security services warning against it you can see why.

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2026 21:23

BBC olympic commentary on the ice hockey just mentioned how brexit has hampered British development of the game.

"Downing Street weighing in on Jim Ratcliffe's comments about immigration. A Number 10 spokesperson said “Jim Ratcliffe should immediately apologise. His offensive remarks are wrong and play into the hands of those who want to divide our country.”

Good.

As a Manchester United fan, in times like this, I think that Jim Ratcliffe is that huge turd you can't flush down the toilet.

placemats · 11/02/2026 22:38

To add. Has big turd Jim ever been to the stands at Old Trafford? The black brown support is fantastic 🤩

LlttledrummergirI · 11/02/2026 23:43

I'm just catching up so bear with me.

Ratcliffe can fuck off (I'm a united fan also).
We saw the yellow thing briefly today, but not enough to unflood the road to University for dd tomorrow. She's tamping as she has to go the long way, and has a feeling one of the lecturers will use it as an excuse to miss the lecture they should be giving.

I've promised to do the Ukraine round up for the next two weeks, so I'm staying on my nice threads following my temporary suspension a few weeks ago. Must sit on hands is a much used phrase at the moment.

It's funny how when billionaires talk about the government needing to do "unpopular things" or make the "difficult decisions" they always mean cutting benefits on the needy not raising taxes on people such as themselves. So strange. Yet always presented as this objective, expert view.

Very true.

Ratcliffe also complained about lack of uk manufacturing... where exactly did he chose to build his new LandRover rival again..... ?

...France, the factory bought in 2021, so he cannot even blame that on Labour... site chosen due to its excellent access to markets, skilled workforce and supply chains... if only this idiot hadn't campaigned to leave the EU.

MsJinks · 12/02/2026 07:51

Going off piste - for the figure skating, which I know zilch about tbh but like to watch.
Just seen a whole host of comments (fb) questioning why Lilah and Fear’s dance routine was Scottish and not British - and were they instead competing for Scotland - and other very odd comments - it has just left my mind absolutely boggled!

Do they also complain about the curling?

Still here and reading everyone’s comments, spending less time on line due to caring responsibilities 😔 Anyway, I realised I had evaded cat tax on this thread so here is my Bengal cross (cross Bengal?) expressing his opinion on all the political goings on

TheABC · 12/02/2026 09:21

I'm wondering if Ratcliffe started mouthing off due to the noise on Twitter - the main feed yesterday was depressing mess of quotes from the grooming gangs enquiry, the Norwich rape conviction of an Afghan refugee (the victim was 12), plus overspill from Iran, US and Canada.

Whilst all of those things are important (and heartbreaking) the overwhelming noise is one of calculated stress with a focus on rape and murder. It's news because it's rare, but Twitter makes it out to be everyday normal. Elon has a lot of things wrong with him, but it wouldn't surprise me if the amount of time he spends on twitter has radicalised him. Same for Ratcliffe.

Fuck, I miss pre-2020 twitter when there was a lot more voices and a bit more balance. I prefer to lurk on here where people step back and treat news with skeptism.

PandoraSocks · 12/02/2026 09:26

Hi @evenstar I hope you are OK. If you ever need to vent about caring issues, do post here or PM me. I know how difficult things can be 💐 Lovely cross (in both senses of the word!) Bengal.

I think the Telegraph must be really struggling for readers. In my usual the-world-is-ending email* from them today they offered me four months' subscription for £1

25p a month to read their hysteria in the run up to the local and national elections seemed not too expensive. If there are any articles you'd like to read, let me know and I will share.☺️

*Owners of country piles are struggling to sell! I could hardly manage to choke back the tears.

Ratcliffe quoting wrong (misleading) immigration statistics that must have originated somewhere

You’ve got more patience than me Pandora. I can’t bring myself to read the comic the Telegraph has become under its new ownership. I expect the deal is due to a fall in subscriptions. Mr B is on the verge of not renewing his and he’s read it all his adult life. He describes it as “the Mail with longer words” now.
