Balance restored, a Reform thread has popped up (somehting about lurching to the left,I MF bail out mentioned)

Since all Farage supporters have steered clear of the WFH thread, it seems only balanced to return the favour.

Let them shout at each other and give the pigeons in the park a break.

The smarmy twat has upped the ante. What a fool. At the very least he should have got the leader of Reform in Bath Wales to sign/co-sign the letter.

So can I demand any university society welcome me?
I could do a decent 2-4 hour presentation on the novels of Jilly Cooper. In fact I insist they platform me and attend.

It was a decision made by the students union, not the university itself. Not that details matter much to Reformites.

Manufactured nonsense designed to whip up sentiment against students/academics/universities.

Cheap tricks. Desperate for attention.

This. The usual suspects will soon be along to sing along. Let them doom and gloom at each other!

They don't like being told "no" do they? It's quite the tantrum.

Oh my gosh - how absolutely terrifying those comments are - very much in line with Trump and I think it was Harvard.
Free speech only when I agree with your words - seems impossible to believe we are here in 2026 U.K.

Hurty feelings. You have to wonder was it engineered in order to be hurty outraged.

No thread on Bangor Uni yet? (can't be arsed to search, so asking you all knowing lot Wink)

A few more Reform threats responses

One can only imagine the eye roll when the 'request' was received.

That is a very good point placemats. Why did Pochin choose to try to invite herself to Bangor in particular?

Not sure why she’d invite herself anywhere but a reform only meeting - she must have an incredibly thick skin - or just be so narcissistic she genuinely believes people want to hear her and her abhorrent views.
Agree a student Union thing seems particularly not her ideal home at all - is it then deliberately aimed at organising future funding cuts?

Well quite.

Of all the Universities in all of an area close to her MP constituency of Runcorn, she chose Bangor. Not Liverpool or Manchester. Not even the city of Salford! The latter must sting for Matt Goodwin.

I'm sure he's man enough to not need any help.

Apropos of various taxes, I am sure I have heard a gaggle of ring-necked parakeets on a recent walk.

Apparently green feathers are occasionally picked up in local parks.

I wonder what they think of the flags ?

Lalgarh · 10/02/2026 18:11

There's parakeets all over south London and I've seen some round Westminster

There were some on the park behind my Mum - I thought I was hallucinating green birds when they first gathered on one of her trees!
Loved seeing them - it’s a very diverse area where she lived and they definitely felt happy at home there - no flags!

So I have learned.

But it's nice they are in the arse end of Brum - although we have deer around. They wander along the canals.

And otters in the city centre

Parakeet tax may be apposite.
Bloody feathered immigrants - invading my garden, sitting in my tree, using my balcony railings... 🤣🤣🤣

Parakeet tax - sadly a poor photo.

My little corner of south east London is overrun with parakeets they really do make a racket, I’ve got an ear worm of Pink Floyd “another brick in the wall” with the Bangor debacle Reform do so embrace the race to the bottom poundshop Trumps.

LlttledrummergirI · 10/02/2026 18:28

Maybe Bangor should change their mind and allow her to debate, they could also invite Emily Thornberry, Jess Phillips , Angela Rayner or Baroness Helena Kennedy to debate with her. I'd watch that.

BIWI · 10/02/2026 18:32

Here in Sarf Lunnon we’re regularly visited by parakeets. I know they’re widely frowned upon, but I love seeing them. They make such a noise with their chattering.

RafaistheKingofClay · 10/02/2026 18:40

We have beavers but I’ve never seen any to pay tax.
