We're just West of London, lots of parakeets - but I'm rather envious of RafaistheKingofClay's beavers

countrygirl99 · 10/02/2026 18:51

There are beavers near us. Right by Rushden Lakes shopping centre but I've not seen them yet.

pointythings · 10/02/2026 19:06

My DS has parakeets in Plymouth - they live in a ruined church on a roundabout. He's written rather a good poem about them.

We have recently had otters reintroduced into our river, and they're thriving.

countrygirl99 · 10/02/2026 19:13

@MaybeNotBob so tempted to name one after my knohead brother 🤣

Here in Sarf Lunnon we’re regularly visited by parakeets. I know they’re widely frowned upon, but I love seeing them. They make such a noise with their chattering.

I was jogging once just as it was getting dark and a huge flock of paraqueets came flying along the footpath in the same direction as me but low down at head height. So suddenly I was surrounded by these masses of birds wooshing past as I ran. I love them.

Farage appears to have called for an end to home working and flexible working to increase productivity.

It’s going to take me a while to stop laughing. I presume this means he will be spending more time both in Clacton and in Parliament.

He wants to ban working from home, but working from another country is ok in his mind? I'm not sure Tice gets much work done for his constituents whilst living in Dubai.

We have beavers but I’ve never seen any to pay tax.

Thirty years ago beaver did not always mean a protected mammal.

There needs to be some forward thinking that recognises that, in years to come, the high needs SEN bulge is likely translate into even more pressure on Social Care, both child and adult.

The cynic in me wonders if it will be cheaper than the current cycle of failed admissions and bad school fit. The optimist in me wonders if the numbers will be sufficiently high to warrent decent living provision and work support.

Bangor uni is one of the very few places that does Marine Biology - so if that's what you want to study Oakshott that's very much a place you'd want to go - silly woman

The School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University is very highly regarded.

It's my local university and I did my MA there a few years ago, not in marine biology though. It's very popular and contrary to what Dizzy Izzy thinks, plenty of students want to go there.

I know they're a bit dumb over there in Reform, but it's a bit senseless to have a confrontation with a Welsh University in the run up to the Senedd elections. I've seen her thread posted on quite a few local facebook groups so word is spreading quickly.

LittleBowSheep · 10/02/2026 21:49

SerendipityJane · 10/02/2026 14:29

Reform don't see Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Just places that should be English. You could say they are the Edward I des nos jours. Especially as you can be sure very few (if any) reformistas would have the faintest clue as to the reference. As one may have said to me once "What's history got to do with patriotism ?"

I think Reform may find they are as popular as Edward I in some parts of Wales.

In fact, I doubt they even know who he was.

I really really really really really really want the laugh react back.

That reminds me of this scene from Thelma and Louise

Reform MPs Accused of Pandering to Putin After Skipping Russian Interference Debate

Nigel Farage’s party refused to attend the debate, called after more than 100,000 people signed a petition demanding a public inquiry into Russian interference in British politics

Were they not working from home?

Thirty years ago beaver did not always mean a protected mammal.

Now beaver does not just mean a protected mammal. Any conversation I have with a friend about going beaver spotting heads into innuendo extremely quickly. It’s almost impossible to use the word without creating a double entendre.

PandoraSocks · 11/02/2026 10:39

Unfair!

It is on Valentine's Day. What better way is there to celebrate? A nice day out threatening the RNLI, then back home for a sad wank over a photo of Nige. This photo.

Bloody hell, there’s a big yellow thing in the sky here this morning - is it the end of the world?

Lib Dems big announcement today is a plan to replace Treasury with new Department for Growth based in Birmingham.

That yellow thing in the sky is playing peekaboo here at the moment, now you see it, now you don't.

Well it's a talking point.

Sometimes there can be value in batshit ideas, as the logic constructed to analyse them can be re-used for alternative suggestions.

(I am the oddball who can simultaneously say that astrology is an absolute crock, but still not entirely without use).
