Just seen this. Not confirmed it myself. If it’s true she can fuck off too. Confirms my vote for Plaid.

Ah now he is saying "give Keir a chance" and "doesn't need to resign". Not a fulsome endorsement.

Streeting has refused to support Starmer when being doorstepped by LBC.

"The source confirmed there have been conversations between Sarwar and allies of Health Secretary Wes Streeting... in the run-up to the decision to call for Starmer to quit"

https://www.politicshome.com/news/article/scottish-labour-leader-anas-sarwar-calls-keir-starmer-resign

Streeting is unpopular with voters.

Mine too @cardibach and I’m a LP member.

PandoraSocks · 09/02/2026 15:19

I'd rather have Starmer than Streeting.

Sarwar is an idiot.

I just saw this. There’s always a tweet. If he does call for Starmer to resign surely he needs to resign himself?

Oh...

BestIsWest · 09/02/2026 15:24

Jo Stevens (Sec of State for Wales) has spoke out in defence of Starmer though. Good.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 09/02/2026 15:29

If Starmer survives this then Sarwar absolutely has to resign himself. There's no way he can go into a Scottish Election campaigning for the electorate to vote for a Labour Party that he, himself, has openly declared he has no confidence in the ultimate leader of. If he tries to brazen it out it would just reiterate that SLAB leader is a position of absolutely no consequence whatsoever.

Also telling that not once did he mention Mandelson, the actual thing that precipitated this scandal.

Alexandra2001 · 09/02/2026 15:41

Streeting certainly "appears" to be a right snake....as does Sarwar, maybe both should defect to Reform, would fit right in.

Karistyleaftea · 09/02/2026 15:50

@tobee I hope not.

itsgettingweird · 09/02/2026 15:54

Badenoch “2 people have resigned from Labour - this is bad news for them”.

How many Torys have defected to reform? That should tell her more!

Efacsen · 09/02/2026 15:57

Starmer receives public statements of support from every member of his cabinet

Exactly.

Wind yer neck in, Badenoch.

Is Mandelson one of the 2?

Many comments have been posted on here previously criticising Labour's comms.
It seems that our vicious media are still intent on hammering home the message that says Reform "good" Labour "bad ."
It would be great if a new comms team can make a difference but experience makes me wonder if it will .
I sincerely hope so and I have utterly swerved on my thoughts about Wes Streeting, Andy Burnham, and the others who have allegedly been planning their moves.
I despise disloyalty.

DuncinToffee · 09/02/2026 16:09

Andy Bruce, Reuters

Gilts like Rayner throwing support behind Starmer.

Still down on the day but not nearly as badly as before.

Streeting is definitely not a Reformite, for all his foibles.

Boris Johnson, Theresa May.

'nuff said.

Piggywaspushed · 09/02/2026 16:18

I don't agree on Sarwar. Scottish Labour wins and succeeds on being more left wing that Starmer's Labour. They would leak votes everywhere in their own constituencies if they positioned themselves to the right.

I think disloyalty is sometimes warranted. But I think Sarwar is playing a Scottish game.

cardibach · 09/02/2026 16:19

Apparently since the entire cabinet has publicly supported Starmer Eluned Morgan isn’t going to make a public statement after all. Nice try Eluned. Too late. We see you. Disloyal and a coward.

I don’t think he should be playing any game. This is too serious. It’s a RW attempt to destabilise the government at this point. He should have more sense.

Piggywaspushed · 09/02/2026 16:22

I didn't mean 'game' in the childish sense. I mean like 'playing the long game'. Surely , we want Scottish Labour to give the UK MPs?

I think I am seeing this through a different lens. Anyway, I like Sarwar.

PandoraSocks · 09/02/2026 16:25

Having had a little look around the rest of MN there seems to be a lot of support for Starmer not going, even amongst people who say they don't like him/didn't vote Labour. People want some calm, not endless drama.

Karistyleaftea · 09/02/2026 16:28

@cardibach I am finding it all extremely serious too.
The Cabinet backing him is showing me that there are still MP's who are in it for the good of the country. as a whole,
unlike others who are prepared to put their ego before anything else.
