What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

FMLGFastMovingLuxuryGoods · 05/02/2026 16:00

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:
HeartyBlueRobin · 05/02/2026 17:29

People who think someone with a different point of view is automatically an idiot.

Berlinlover · 05/02/2026 17:29

Two people I know who voted for Brexit and then applied for Irish passports because apparently they didn’t know what they were voting for.

godmum56 · 05/02/2026 17:29

soooooooo too many to list

CrystalSingerFan · 05/02/2026 17:29

@HorrorPudding "People who misuse the reflexive pronoun in an attempt to look sophisticated."

THIS!

justtheotheronemrswembley · 05/02/2026 17:29

Believers in homeopathy's ability to cure anything despite the absolutely resounding evidence it can't work.

Have you never heard of the placebo effect?

TeenToTwenties · 05/02/2026 17:29

People who think the moon landings were faked. (Can you imagine the number of people who would have had to be in on it, including the Russians?!)

People who can't accept that on many issues people will weigh up pros and cons differently according to their own circumstances and experience, ... and come up on the opposite side.

ArtificialStupidity · 05/02/2026 17:30

AgnesMcDoo · 05/02/2026 17:27

people who forget about dyslexia/ typos / autocorrect / English not first language / poor education and think that anyone who makes a slight error in English is an idiot - nope you are the idiot

ditto for those who think that their accent is the only correct accent

Agree with this!

Some of the most intelligent people I know really struggle with spelling

OriginalSkang · 05/02/2026 17:30

People who say they are sapiosexual on dating apps

'I must of...'

I have often replied with 'I of done that before too..'.

I once witnessed "must of had to of"

Took myself for a wee lie down in a darkened room afterwards.

Shmoigel · 05/02/2026 17:32

Smokers and weed smokers
Facial fillers/injectables done in dodgy salons
People who believe 9/11 was an inside job.
People who use the word "of" instead of have.
The protestors who have plagued our cities for the last 2 years
People who buy shit to make Boo or Burr baskets (adding to landfill)
People who buy their teenagers illegal high powered bikes/scooters

turkeyboots · 05/02/2026 17:34

People to beep at me for not running the red light.

ExpressCheckout · 05/02/2026 17:34

"I'm voting Reform"
"We've got our borders back"
"We need to bring back hanging"

Definitely idiotic and thuggish.

JonesTown · 05/02/2026 17:35

Being a Reform/Green/Your Party supporter is always an indicator for me that someone lacks critical thinking skills.

Yay, I’m the first I think - apostrophes, please don’t write a plural with an apostrophe. Just wrong. Appreciate that trying to get possessives does seem to be tricky for some but surely not plurals.
Used to live in a town where the sign writer for a wedding shop clearly meant Veils but wrote Veil’s and then presumably in a panic added another apostrophe and ended up with Veil’s’s.
It’s probably still there.

The latest appears to be apostrophising surnames ending in "s".

So "Adams" becomes "Adam's", "Reynolds" becomes "Reynold's", and so on.

I make allowances for the fact that phones autocorrect certain things, but surely if you are in any way educated and not just unfathomably ignorant and lazy, you correct that sort of thing manually as soon as it appears and teach the autocorrect it's a no-no.

Even more worrying if people are just not grasping it's a glaring error.

merrymonsters · 05/02/2026 17:36

Anyone who believes:
there is such a thing as being born in the wrong body,
Children need to be sterilised and mutilated,
Men getting a boner is more important than women's rights.

I've never felt the same about someone I know who said that "embryos aren't human".

justtheotheronemrswembley · 05/02/2026 17:36

People who start threads an hour and a half ago and still haven't bothered coming back to it.

LoveSandbanks · 05/02/2026 17:36

youalright · 05/02/2026 16:11

Conspiracy theorists and antivaxxers although these are usually the same people. People who say do your research, how I don't have a lab and a science degree oh wait you mean read facebook posts

When I had my first child I actually did do my research, in so far as I went off to find peer reviewed studies that found that vaccines cause harm.

There weren’t any then and I doubt there is now 🙄.

Anti vaxxers are my most hated of idiots because their child is only safe(ish) from diseases because most of us got our kids vaccinated. They sit around in their stupidity induced smugness too thick to realise that their child would be very much at risk if it wasn’t for those that they call sheep!

DecisionTime123 · 05/02/2026 17:37

Has anyone mentioned bare instead of bear as in "bear with me"? And almost everything else people have said, but mainly thinly veiled racism. Female colleagues (of all ages and circumstances) who do giggly hair flicking and "ooo silly little old me!" stuff when a man walks in the office.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 05/02/2026 17:37

Reform voters
Anti vaxers (sp?)

Breillo · 05/02/2026 17:39

Labour voters

justtheotheronemrswembley · 05/02/2026 17:40

People who think that appearing on Love Island will show them in their best light.

DramaAndBullshit · 05/02/2026 17:40

So many of the ones already mentioned. I’ve read down the thread nodding like a bobble head!

People who refute new info/guidance with the phrase ‘it didn’t do me any harm’ Things like starting solids before 6 months, controlled crying/sleep training, naughty step for undesirable behaviour. All those ‘we drank from the hose and rode our bikes dawn til dusk and survived’ types.

People who don’t reverse park.

Isekaied · 05/02/2026 17:41

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/02/2026 16:05

Use of "lol" and suchlike at the end of written sentences.

Lol 😆

Warmlover · 05/02/2026 17:41

Religious people

Also regularly appearing is the idiotic 80's, 90's. It's '80s, '90s.
