Button moon

I came across button moon last night on amazon prime and watched some with my 10 year old daughter. I loved that when I was little in the 80s. Dd really liked it too but kept on pointing out the men in that back (clearly visible) moving the puppets, wonder how that escaped me as a child 🤔. And then the spaceship for Mr spoon to go to button moon is actually a tin of heinz beans, tin of pink salmon and a funnel 🤣 brilliant!! Im going to watch some more tonight.

Anyone know of any other 80s cartoons available to bring back memories and laugh at things we didnt notice back then?.

A bit further back, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the Engine, Bagpuss, Trumpton, Camberwick Green.

Classics. Never bettered.

I had a noggin the nog video for my children in the 90s. I remember reading the books as a child 💕

fraggle rock
grott bags /the pink windmill
fun house was a let one but I loved that a

What was wrong with Fun House? Admittedly it was a real crazy show where anything could go, but it was also crazy fun and outrageous and you had to use your body and your brain if you wanted to play the game.

Maid Marian and Her Merry Men!

game over.

What a lovely trip down memory lane.
I remember this mix from mine and my DS childhood:
Captain Pugwash
Playschool
Hector's house
Rosie and Jim
Camberwick Green ( a music box opened to reveal the character for that days show)
Josie and the Pussycats
Hong Kong Phooey

Rainbow, poddington peas, raggy dolls, fraggle rock, portland bill!

We (me, my husband and 7 year old) love watching Rainbow. It's such a shame they've never revived it like they did with Sooty.

Oh the innuendos in rainbow we missed as innocent children 😆 🤣 😂.

Grotbags used to really scare me but she had the best prizes.

Terrifying. On the pink windmill show (or something like that).

Simon and the witch
SuperGran
Jossy's Giants (mainly remember the song)
Wackaday (timmy mallett)
Count Duckula
T Bag
Bananaman

Another favourite was BBC's adaptation of the Lion the witch and the wardrobe. Was broadcast in about five or six parts. Beautiful theme music.

@ConstanzeMozart I agree Bagpuss was amazing. @Flannelfeet and the things you missed as a child. Imagine my horror when showing my children an episode of Bagpuss of all the ones I could have chosen I chose Ship in a Bottle.

He catches a mermaid with his fishing line.

She has no seashell bra, just bare breasts. Bare breasts. He refers to her as a child. Gross. Video below at the right part.

😬😬😬 jeezo!! You wouldn't get away with that these days! Imagine the horror of the parents.

Thank you, that's really interesting. I only realise now what an outlier it was back then to have a woman at the centre of the action.

JackJarvisEsq · 02/02/2026 17:42

The Shoe People and Tugs were my favourites

I think though if I tried to watch them now I’d be sorely disappointed

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/02/2026 17:43

There is a book you can buy, with knitting patterns for Clangers. Not that I’m putting temptation in anyone’s way, of course.

rainforestalliance · 02/02/2026 17:43

Yes we noticed the people moving the bits too.. also didn’t notice it when I was little, maybe due to the smaller tvs?
