I came across button moon last night on amazon prime and watched some with my 10 year old daughter. I loved that when I was little in the 80s. Dd really liked it too but kept on pointing out the men in that back (clearly visible) moving the puppets, wonder how that escaped me as a child 🤔. And then the spaceship for Mr spoon to go to button moon is actually a tin of heinz beans, tin of pink salmon and a funnel 🤣 brilliant!! Im going to watch some more tonight.

Anyone know of any other 80s cartoons available to bring back memories and laugh at things we didnt notice back then?.

Yes! Proper brass band style music intro and I think his dog was called Scraps?!

Upstartled · 02/02/2026 18:47

Oh, Jonny Briggs..."My Mam, who's a nurse say...". My Mam was a nurse and I'd say that to my mates to annoy them.

I loved Monkey, it was on BBC2 I think. I remember watching that and Harrold Lloyd which was black and white and he hung off a clock in the intro.

I am now blowing through my fingers a la Monkey and remembering Piggy and the princess in her white dress.

The character Tripitaka was a Buddhist novice monk but for some reason they cast a young female actress in the part.

She died tragically young from Leukemia aged just 27.

Tots TV was very sophisticated with it's french vibe!
I've been racking my brains trying to remember the name of the programme with a green toy cat.
At the time 40 odd years ago I couldn't find a green cuddly toy cat anywhere and ended up knitting one for my then 2 year old son!
Anyone remember?

I remember all these..press gang was the best!!

One of the Press Gang cast came to the houseshare I lived in when I was 17 to buy coke from my amateur DJ landlord. That was a surreal doorstep conversation!

Wow, that must of been brilliant!! My claim to fame is Russell crowe coming into my work and me serving him in complete shock. He was helping out his friends in a local medieval village. For weeks i kept thinking...did that really happen 😆 🤣

I think Mooncat from Get Up and Go was green?

So many great memories…
Does anyone remember Issi Noho? Sometimes I feel like I’m the only child that watched it! Also Barnaby bear.

Years later my children loved Tots Tv with Tilly, Tom and Tiny (not forgetting donkey and furryboo).

Interesting fact: Miriam Margolyes did a lot of the female character voices in the english dub.

There’s a newer version called The New Legends of Monkey on Netflix. Tripitaka is not only played by a woman but actually is an aknowledged female character this time around.

Yes, you're right! Wonder where I got Scraps from?

The theme tune to Sharky and George just popped into my head - I think my brain is retrieving lots of random memories from the childhood Tupperware box/time capsule that is stored in my mind!

Yes! Most of the first and second series are on YouTube for gratis! He doesn't act anymore and is a nurse now I believe.
