Button moon

I came across button moon last night on amazon prime and watched some with my 10 year old daughter. I loved that when I was little in the 80s. Dd really liked it too but kept on pointing out the men in that back (clearly visible) moving the puppets, wonder how that escaped me as a child 🤔. And then the spaceship for Mr spoon to go to button moon is actually a tin of heinz beans, tin of pink salmon and a funnel 🤣 brilliant!! Im going to watch some more tonight.

Anyone know of any other 80s cartoons available to bring back memories and laugh at things we didnt notice back then?.

I do! Wow! That really is a blast from the past!

Anyone remember King Rollo? I think my sister and I used to call him King Rolo...

Yes! It was a very similar drawing style to Little Princess that my kids watched when they were little.

The Flumps were amazing, the one where Pootle is under a rain cloud as she/he is in a bad mood. Look and Read with (to me) the really scary Wordy the orange character. Pipkins as well. Ivor the engine and Willow the wisp although they signalled that the very limited kids tv window on the BBC was coming to an end , I think they were on at 5:30 and at 5:45 it was the news.

Do you remember the stories from Look and Read?

Geordie Racer (the pigeon keeping one?)
Dark Towers (with the ghost in the red bed)
Badger Girl
The Boy from Space

Also this has just reminded me of Jonny Briggs! Because I think actress Sue Devaney was in Geordie Racer too? She's the toast lady in Dinnerladies!

Finally, why don't you build yourself a word? Build yourself a word with an 'ing' ti say it's happening!

Loved it! I met Glen Michael once and he was every bit as lovely as you’d imagine. Sadly no Paladin though

I looked up the cast a few weeks ago. That was sobering.

Postman Pat, the animals of farthing wood, Bertha, round the twist, pugwall, Thomas the tank engine, Hartbeat, fun house, green claws.
Does anyone remember a program (Saturday mornings) where there were two (kid) contestants that had to complete tasks and would go up and down in an elevator to the task, the only game I remember is them having to swim around a giant bowl of cereal to fish out the cereal.
I'm also half remembering a show with early teens where they would make stuff, and there was a girl who would get things out of her bag, but it was a never ending bag, where she would pull out a hocky stick for example.., I want to say it was called "Why" or "How".

The lift one is Incredible Games!

Fingermouse. So simple and obviously on his finger but so sweet too.

Play Away with Brian Cant amongst others.

Oh my goodness I loved this, I can still remember all the words to the theme song!
" It really doesn't matter if it's raining or its fine, just as long as you've got time to PLAY etc...

Arlanymor · 02/02/2026 18:34

I've just remembered some ITV teenage programmes...

Press Gang
Spatz
Mike and Angelo
Children's Ward

(And someone mentioned Knightmare which I used to love until that pixie/sprite person joined - not needed, Treguard was fine thank you! There's a Limmy sketch with Falconhoof where he's joined by a jester called Jingle and the player says: "Kill Jingle." Took me right back to my childhood - kill Pickle!!!!)

Showing my age here a touch!

Dark towers perhaps, i really did not like it but there would have been nothing else on!! Oh yes Jonny Briggs, she was the sister. Did she have a rabbit - there was something about angora?

Crikey i was 13 when it was on, far too old when I think of my daughter but there were no phones or internet were there.

Edited

We were made to watch it in school (teacher hangover day?!) I didn't mind it but I really hated the Boy from Space - every time I walked home from school and a car with tinted windows drove past I thought I was going to be kidnapped!

Yes! That's absolutely right about the rabbit, it was his and she and Jonny were always rowing about it. Can you believe she is 73 now?!

PutYourSpecsOnJean · 02/02/2026 18:12

@MamaBobo it was Alberto Frog who used to get a milkshake. The Alberto Frog story came partway through the Bod episode and Alberto and his animal orchestra used to solve some problem, then as a reward he used to choose a milkshake and the animals used to guess what flavour he would go for. Looking back it was a bit weird to have it as part of Bod as they were unconnected and different sorts of animation but someone obviously decided to bundle them together

Brilliant…so it was…I remembered the frog and his orchestra….but got mixed up with the milkshake! It was weird!

I grew up overseas and we mainly had American imported cartoons for an hour each day. Roger Ramjet, Mr Magoo and the Getalong Gang. Anyone ever come across those?

Here he is with his cat Hamlet! He was a child king and the premise was that he always made silly decisions and the cat was cleverer than him!

Can't say the dog food one is coming to mind though!

I mentioned the Get Along Gang upthread - I loved it! I remember getting a pair of Fisher Price adjustable skates and all the kids in our cul-de-sac decided to name ourselves after their characters to have our own Get Along Gang. I was Montgomery Moose and my sister was Woolma Lamb!

DrEmilyCrabtree · 02/02/2026 18:42

So many excellent memories here! I loved so many of the programmes - particularly the ones with good theme tunes.

Does anyone else remember Alphonso Bonzo? Or Galloping Galaxies?

Good to hear she's still working, I don't watch soaps so haven't seen her on TV for a while.
