Where was the most AMAZING place you've visited?

I'm enjoying reading the post "Where is the most boring place you've visited" but it's making me wonder what are considered the most amazing places visited?
Maybe we can build the dream wish list for destinations?

Personally I vote for the western fjords of Norway. Every turn is picture perfect scenery and the people were so nice.

Freiburg im Breslau.

Rochers de Naye. In amongst the Alps. It is Gobsmackingly wonderful and makes you feel tiny. No picture can do justice you have to be there. Cliche i know.

We hired a yacht and sailed around the coast of Turkiye. Once you get out of Marmaris the coastline unfolds into breathtaking scenery. There’s a bay called Sailor’s Paradise, which is only accessible from the sea. A family live there with goats, chickens, and gardens full of produce. There’s a jetty for visiting boats and a restaurant serving the most delicious Turkish food. You can swim in the crystal clean waters in the bay. Sailor’s Paradise is indeed my paradise.

India. It was 25 years ago but I have yearned to go back ever since. But I don’t think it’s possible to travel alone anymore.

Specific place ?

Great Barrier Reef, by a long shot. Simply stunning. Unbelievable place.

Country ?

New Zealand. SO much to see, and so beautiful. Lovely people. Relaxed atmosphere. Easy to travel through.

The Netherlands

Langkawi , Malaysian for the stunning scenery & lovely people.

One day on a road trip in the US we drove over a pass somewhere in Colorado into the most perfectly beautiful valley I have ever seen. I don’t know exactly where it was but that moment has stuck with me for years.

Iceland. I ticked two items off my bucket list within 18 hours of landing, northern lights and whale watching. Also saw geysers and spectacular waterfalls, not to mention the brilliant shows and museums in a Reykjavík., and actually Reykjavik itself, beautiful place, gorgeous shops I could have spent a fortune in.

Vietnam a very, very close second. Train street, ho chi minhs palace and his actual body lying in state in his mausoleum, cu chi tunnels, the Mekong delta, golden hands bridge, lantern street, plus the fantastic food and people. The stories our guides told us about the war were fascinating.

Hvar, Croatia for the seafood and beautiful water
Stockholm for just all of it
Washington DC for the museums and monuments
Port Douglas, Australia for the vibe, the weather, the beach
Tasmania, Australia. So much to do, great for road tripping.

I’ve travelled loads and always Sri Lanka for me. Amazing. Wonderful. Been four times.

Maybe the Great Barrier Reef too. These days I’d feel bad about the environmental impact but it wasn’t so discussed back in the 90s when I dived there.

And of course the place I am lucky to visit most often. Incredible London.

The Outer Hebrides in Scotland and especially the trip to St Kilda. Such beautiful places, wildlife watching, we ate tons of black pudding and seafood.
Berchtesgaden and Tegernsee in Bavaria, amazing mountains, hiking and food.
Prague for history, fabulous buildings and excellent Czech beer.

Probably Lake Toba in Indonesia. Scenery like a sort of lush, green, tropical Switzerland, a huge lake formed in a long extinct volcano. Had a dirt cheap cottage about 3 paces from the lake edge, lovely for a swim. Some of the lovely locals would cook for you on their mini-restaurant little verandahs, all so unbelievably cheap.

I was embarrassed one night when dh wanted wine - the cheap local lager was fine for me - and the woman who was cooking had to go elsewhere to fetch a bottle, and came back carrying it as if it was made of gold dust -it cost a fortune by local standards.

A lot of posters are describing places they visited years ago, but sadly I think many places are very different now. We've been to Rome twice. The first time, 30 years ago, one May, we rocked up anywhere we went, no queues, and some places were fairly empty. The Forum was free and we hardly saw anyone else there. We went again 10 years ago - everywhere was packed, you had to get up early to avoid the queues, and although the sights were the same the experience wasn't.

To be fair there are so many beautiful and breathtaking places in the world though, there is hardly anywhere that I haven't enjoyed.

Forgot to add: South Tyrol, beautiful mountains, amazing food and wine. Unfortunately our favourite hotel in Bolzano was flattened by a landslide, thankfully nobody was killed.

Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Rome. I have a degree in Roman Archaeology and it was wonderful to see places I'd read about for years in the flesh. The Pantheon was my favourite.
I'm currently on holiday in one of the places (UK) mentioned above and I bloody hate it, but it takes all sorts to make a world and all that!

The Peloponnese coast road. Stunning scenery around every corner.

I was there for a weekend at the beginning of the year - it’s still lovely but probably not as chilled and unspoilt as when you went. I stayed in the top part of a local wooden house. Also went to see the beautiful waterfall and volcanoes on the way back to Medan.

The beaches in Donegal, stunning, quiet and windswept.. Diving off the coast of Sharm El Sheikh, more amazing than the GBR. Luang Prabang in Laos, a beautiful old french town with temples and frangipani. Lots of trainee monks in orange robes.

Ngorongoro Crater , Tanzania. Paradise!

Yosemite National Park. Breathtaking.

And also Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies.
