I'm enjoying reading the post "Where is the most boring place you've visited" but it's making me wonder what are considered the most amazing places visited?
Maybe we can build the dream wish list for destinations?

Personally I vote for the western fjords of Norway. Every turn is picture perfect scenery and the people were so nice.

Lake Maggiore. The most beautiful place I’ve ever visited.

Awww- I love it there!! Some of my favourite family holidays have been there!!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 26/01/2026 22:18

Punta Mita in Mexico. Exquisite beach, crystal clear water, whales, iguanas, raccoons, hummingbirds, clear starry skies…

The Cairngorms.

Florence.

Rome.

Mexico City, particularly Frida Kahlo’s house.

Antarctica. Totally impossible to describe or explain how it made me feel. I’ve never felt so emotional leaving a place in my life.

Please don’t encourage tourism to Antarctica: it has a terribly high carbon footprint and damages the delicate ecosystems there.
No one should be visiting Antarctica for a holiday.

Kenya absolutely blew my mind. I will never ever forget my trip. I just felt awestruck. I also wild camped in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Listening to a lion roar all night - just incredible.

i put off going to Rome under some sort of misguided impression that I didn’t need to go. Wrong! Everything is 2000 years old, and it’s just THERE for you to look at in the street. And the pizza and wine! Just delightful.

Too many!
Chilean Patagonia, especially Torres del Paine National Park
Salar de Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia
Galápagos Islands
The Icefields Parkway in Alberta
Vancouver Island
Moraine Lake and Valley of the Ten Peaks in Alberta - I lived in Canada for a few years and never got tired of the mountains
Yosemite
Iguazu Falls and Victoria Falls
Pantanal wetlands in Brazil
Travelling through the Okavango Delta in a dugout canoe
The Serengeti and the Maasai Mara
Gili Islands in Indonesia
Biking around Cuba
Dubrovnik
Tokyo

In the UK, the North Antrim coast, Edinburgh, Dartmoor, Bedruthan Steps beach in Cornwall.

Really agree with some of these, particularly Yosemite and the West Coast of Scotland.

To add something no one’s already said, Glacier Bay, Alaska. We sailed in in the fog and it suddenly lifted. I was so shocked at suddenly being able to see the ice all around and hearing the ice cracking and crashing that it brought me to tears.

WanderingGiraffe · 26/01/2026 22:23

Tricky!

Guatemala. Mexico (esp San Cristobal de las Casas and Oaxaca… and Puebla). I loved Baños in Ecuador too.

Blyde River Canyon in SA. Great Wall of China (Jinshanling). And Sabah, Borneo.

Mumwithbaggage · 26/01/2026 22:25

So many places on here - some I've been to and many to add to my list!

For me, Bongoyo Island just off Dar As salam. Maybe Zanzibar too. Krakpw is fabulous. I could move now to some lovely villages in the South of France, Closer to home, Dungeness. Just such an odd but wonderful place.

Spanglybangles · 26/01/2026 22:25

Canada. Been a few times, but most recent trip was to BC and on to The Rockies, Alberta. Driving The Icefields Parkway in the national parks from Banff to Jasper was utterly breathtaking. Round every corner was such beauty and I have so many amazing photos of mountains, lakes, glaciers. Will never tire of visiting that incredible country.

Photos here I took of Bow Lake and Mount Robson.

Also loved Norway, Sognefjord.
Italy-Amalfi coast.
In UK, Gower has some stunning beaches and views.

Ilovelurchers · 26/01/2026 22:28

To me you can't beat the Lake District! There is a lovely campsite near Windermere called Park Cliffe - it has pitch sites, caravans, camping pods and all sorts, and my daughter and I go most years and just have the most simple, magical holidays there!

Aberystwyth is also a properly stunning place.

Outside the UK, I loved Tiblisi in Georgia. And Albania - the mountains were unspeakably beautiful.

I am pretty well travelled in Europe, but the UK will do it for me every time. (And it's better for the environment too - please think about this, people. I will still go abroad occasionally, but not annually, and not just for mini-breaks! We've fucked the planet enough already - something has to give).

Iceland. Amazing. The waterfall you can walk behind was incredible- Seljalandsfoss. The natural spas and the geysers. Such awesome beauty. Ireland for the friendliest strangers you’ll ever meet (in my limited experience!)
Switzerland (can’t remember where) with the most beautiful lake/mountain combo I’ve ever seen

PurpleLovecats · 26/01/2026 22:31

Alberabello in Italy blew my 7 year old mind, we lived in southern Italy and I have some amazing memories.

The ring of Kerry in Ireland.

The Grand Canyon, the scale of it was awesome.

The Rocky Mountains.

BobbyGentry · 26/01/2026 22:31

Shiretoko National Park, Hokkaido, Northern Japan, visited in Spring (low season) and it was just glorious. The train on the east coast was a delight, travelling through 3 national parks in 1 journey.
