I'm enjoying reading the post "Where is the most boring place you've visited" but it's making me wonder what are considered the most amazing places visited?
Maybe we can build the dream wish list for destinations?

Personally I vote for the western fjords of Norway. Every turn is picture perfect scenery and the people were so nice.

Patagonia
Malapascua island in the Philippines
Krabi in Thailand
Capri and Amalfi Coast

It’s on my list!

Do book it, and soon.

We went last year and what with the pandemic and then the fighting in Israel/Gaza/Syria/Iraq, basically all its neighbours, their tourism industry has been decimated. It’s the country’s main source of income and they are crying out for tourists.

The country is perfectly safe, stunningly beautiful and you will not meet nicer people than the Jordanians.

One benefit of going when there are so few tourists at the moment is that you will have places like Petra practically to yourselves. At the height of their tourism, Petra had roughly 12,000 visitors a day, when we went last year it was down to something like 800 a day.

Iceland
Just blew us away so amazing x

The Australian Gold Coast rainforest blew my mind, and Lake Tahoe in Northern California.

I love threads like this! So many places to go to, or dream about, and sharing iykyk with someone who has travelled to the same place(s). I've loved something about pretty much everywhere I've travelled, but high on my list are:
Greece
S Korea
Hawaii

The ancient city of Persepolis in Iran. Also the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanstan - before the Taliban blew them up.

Rome

I will also add Venice. Go in winter when there are few visitors. Around December Venice is magical. The Italians decorate their shop windows - even the small ordinary ones - with great panache. But its bloody cold on the canals.

Camping in Namibia and Botswana was one of my favourites. Rwanda was also special spending time with the gorillas, and seeing chimpanzees and golden monkeys.

Marvellousmeadows · 27/01/2026 07:29

Prague , went late November with my children who said it was straight out of a Disney film, the architecture is stunning and to top it off we had snow ❄️

Where was the most AMAZING place you've visited?

Sri Lanka. Eight UNESCO world heritage sites and incredible natural riches.
Thailand. Especially Krabi region.
Grand Canyon. Will never forget that first view.
Any British deciduous woodland in the spring.

Wiennetta · 27/01/2026 07:35

Have been to Japan twice and some of my favourite places are there - any of the onsen towns in the Alps or any of the small towns in Shikoku or Kyushu. Will keep going back!

For cities I loved Chongqing, China.

I also loved the Punakha valley in Bhutan. We saw cranes arriving there for winter and it was gorgeous to see them flying low in the valley with frost on the ground and the mountains behind. Bhutan is such an undiscovered gem.

Ethiopia! Incredible - alot of hiking. Breath taking scenery. Would love to go back.

99victoria · 27/01/2026 08:49

The Canadian Rockies - breathtaking 😍 nothing quite compares although Norway and the Trossachs area of Scotland come very close

Cape Town and the Winelands area of South Africa is also stunningly beautiful 😍

China. Zhangjiajie - also known as the floating mountains. Incredible even in the rain lol though a difficult country to navigate without Mandarin.

mayishangshu · 27/01/2026 15:15

The great wall of China, seen it so many times on TV and in pictures for years, didnt expect anything mind blowing until I was standing on it, amazing.

Lake Pukaki, my aboslutely all time favorite in NZ, the milky green colours, the blooming lupins and snowy Mt cook in the background, like a place in the dream.

Zhangjiajie in Hunan and Lijiang in Yunnan, China, amazing landscape and beautiful old town

Barcelona, I remember thinking to myself how can anyone grow up in this city not become an artist, such a beaitiful, historical and artistic place

Abel Tasman park, NZ, been there many times, could never got bored of it.

Freudianflip · 01/02/2026 14:19

New Zealand. Specifically Kaikoura but honestly I found myself catching my breath regularly as I travelled from south to north island. It is honestly truly the most incredible place I’ve ever been.

My cousin owns a motel there, absolutely beautiful place!

AbbaDabbaDooh · 01/02/2026 23:07

East coast beaches of Zanzibar.

Bbq1 · 01/02/2026 23:20
