I'm enjoying reading the post "Where is the most boring place you've visited" but it's making me wonder what are considered the most amazing places visited?
Maybe we can build the dream wish list for destinations?

Personally I vote for the western fjords of Norway. Every turn is picture perfect scenery and the people were so nice.

Tokyo about 18 years ago, just mind blowing!

yes for me too - whistlestop work visit in 1999 but it really did feel totally ... strange, in the original sense of the word. I felt I had no markers. It was amazing.

I think it might not hit quite hard now that Japanese pop culture has really had an impact globally, and some things have become more familiar.

But back then I really did feel like a stranger in a strange land, and it was exhilarating.

Just to add - and not to piss on anyone's parade - I feel really differently about travel now. It was so precious then, and I'm really sad about that cheaper air travel/travel as a commodity and a 'right'/global capitalism etc has contributed to so many depressing things, and guilty about my part in it.

I don't mean we all just should stay here and of course it's complicated because now economies depend on globalised tourism. Ach! So I guess actually I would love to go to some of the places people have mentioned because they would be significant and meaningful, but generally try to avoid throwaway travel and instagram oppo stuff - hen weekends, lots of city breaks etc. I'm often amazed that some people seem to go away 6 - 10 times a year!

Another vote for the Norwegian coast, especially from a Hurtigruten ship. Night after night of the aurora, amazing wildlife, just magical.
Also Colditz castle, it's an impressive pile but the history.
And I feel I should also mention Robin Hoods Bay, my Mum's favourite.

I forgot to add The Great Ocean Road, what a fabulous, albeit long, drive with beautiful scenery.
