I'm sure this goes on at every level and at some point, I'm sure this culture feeds into private organisations. It shouldn't - but look at how many nonsensical things the public sector have come up with that then gradually creep into the private sector...
I watched a bit of Robert Jenrick on Triggernometry - it was surprisingly dull so I didn't watch the whole thing. Interestingly, he did not blame the civil service as much as I was expecting him to. But I suppose he has to keep them on side! He made a valid point about leadership - but they are such a slow machine, I would've thought even the best leadership would just get lost in the weeds. I get the sense they are a real problem.
Re Starmer and who is next- To a large extent, it doesn't make any difference who is in charge.
I have absolutely no idea what's going on in the UK and it's quite frightening. It may be applicable to other countries as well.
It just feels like massive incompetence and chaos against a background of people who are too worried about abstract things and think that someone else is magically in charge of keeping us fed, watered and having the lights on.
