A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The hardcore are throwing in the towel on Starmer.

I agree on one point with the hard-core starmer supporters. Labour need to get a grip on this and fast, they also need to replace starmer with someone as sensible as possible from the limited pool they have. Not someone as divisive as rayner, otherwise the country risks a Reform government.

Country before party and all that.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 05/02/2026 09:22

I remember the Starmer love from the Labour supporters immediately after the GE. He’s so clever, he’s a KC, used to be DPP, great judgement, he’ll be a wonderful speaker, very solid, grown up and sensible.

It was obvious to anyone even mildly objective that he was an over-promoted, talentless, horribly ambitious wanker.

Yes so true.
I could never understand what others saw in him.

You say risk a reform government, but risk is inherent in all unknowns.

The risk in a Labour government is now well known however.

I don't think that will work, will it? They surely can't take random new MP and role the dice as PM?

Edit: sorry, misread your post entirely 😬

Same. He still gets pockets of love ins on here, there was a thread in the last week or so with the usual.

He always looked focussed grouped and trained up to his eyeballs, hence his over reliance on McSweeney.

It was obvious pre GE and it’s coming home to roost now.

Unfortunately Labour will see someone like Rayner as the sensible choice. We aren't dealing with sensible people here.

But with all her tax underpaying will they? After all this won’t they need someone as pure as the driven snow?

Yes I really do think they are that stupid! Look at the power and influence Rayner exhibited yesterday. Wes would be better for the country but thats not how the PLP will see it.

Personally, I'm hoping its Ed Milliband. They would remain unelectable for a generation, and I would look forward to PMQs every week if he took over. Kemi would eat him for breakfast. 😁

Morning All, it’s been a while since I last posted but I actively follow these threads. I am agog at what’s happening within the Labour party, you know the grown ups brought in to stop the chaos and corruption.

Here is who I think will be in the running to replace Starmer:

Andy Burnham – hot favourite amongst the lefties. Their King of the North. Blocked but could worm his way in and if so, will win.

David Lammy – fan of Britain paying reparations and giving away our islands. IMO – no chance.

Wes Streeting – good communicator, good at massaging the NHS figures to show positivity. Not so good at sorting out the ‘never-resident’ doctors.

Angela Rayner – Our Ang. A true socialist. Popular with the left if only she hadn’t disgraced herself over pesky tax avoidance and then there’s the issue that she's a woman – hmmm, they'll take points off for that.

Peter Mandleson – Could the Prince of Darkness be resurrected for the fourth time? Ok I’m being facetious, but with this inept lot, never say never!

My money is on Wes Streeting unless Burnham wings his way in. I can’t think of anyone else to caretake until Kemi (or Nigel) gets in. I’m off to Tesco to see if there’s any lettuces left because surely he has to resign now. If this was a Tory government, they would be howls of corruption from the left. How can they be supportive of this?

EasternStandard · 05/02/2026 09:45

Karl Turner was very complimentary about Rayner saving them yesterday, so if he’s an indication I think she is top for them. Even though the tax might make her problematic with the public (that’s without all
the standard economic issues) she is stronger ironically outside the cabinet.

None of them thanks.

Although if forced to choose it would be Wes.

Yes she played a blinder yesterday. I felt a tinge of admiration for her.
I think Streeting is McSweeney’s pick, so if he falls it's Rayner’s for the taking imo.

I agree. If this government, and Labour as a party, is to have any future the next PM will have to be all of spotless, talented and likeable. That’s a tough ask in any party, but especially for Labour.

I increasingly think their best chance is to elect a woman: much less chance of sleaze, better antennae for wrong ‘uns, more empathy for the average Jo and Joe and a visible break from the past.

But not Rayner - she’s godawful and a major liability. Same with Thornberry. Mahmood? I don’t entirely trust her instincts but she’d be a new broom. Cooper? Seems OK if a bit Labour machine. Powell? Bit of an unknown but might present the party well enough.

Same. And I generally haven’t liked her but it was an absolute blinder. Kemi was incredible too.

Streeting will suffer the McSweeney connection and won’t be as wanted by the party I think.

I want Rayner to go for it.

Januaryescape · 05/02/2026 09:57

I do agree a lurch back to the populist left was inevitable at some point - the bright side definitely
is that 3 years is more than enough time for them to lose their remaining credibility pre GE and finish the green/left coalition votes…

taxes only going one way and growth another under a Rayner led group.

Rayner will make everything x 10 worse.

Well given Labours vetting policy, Ange will sail through…

Farage: We want Starmer to remain until the local elections.

LOL

EasternStandard · 05/02/2026 10:16

This was on another thread, hopefully it’s ok to nick.

Boris' is reported as saying he 'detested that odious little pervert' - it is unclear if he was referring to Epstein or Mandelson

Kemi and all conservatives are away from this and Labour are up to their eyes. Epstein / Mandelson will see them out and it’s far worse as scandals and affairs go.

MNLurker1345 · 05/02/2026 10:21

I shouldn’t get personal, but who’s going to stop me? Wes Streeting actually looks like the old action man doll. Plastic!

@Liker, none of them for me, even at a push!

And as for that bullfrog Lammy! No more said.

peacefulpeach · 05/02/2026 10:33

All of this it what happens when people are promoted beyond their abilities. I hope others are taking note. Time to stop with the lowered entry requirements / qualifications and experience, this is what we get.

Rayner has done well to pull herself up, given her background, but it doesn’t mean she’s competent for the job. Labour just don’t seem to understand what competence is, these days. Citing Tory scum, partying in Ibiza, suspicious housing issues in her constituency, and tax dodging - not ideal.

They can only pick Streeting or Mahmood, surely.
