A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Hope you feel better soon @TheNuthatch

Interesting article in The Telegraph this morning in case it’s useful to take your mind off it!

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/9343dce8de75ad66

"Six years on, “Bregret” certainly exists – but it’s simply dwarfed by voters who regret supporting those they now consider to be clowns – above all, Keir Starmer. Starmer’s collapse in the polls was rapid, but it’s terminal – there is no way back for him. He joins Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss and Boris Johnson as yet another prime minister who talked a great deal, but failed miserably."

With Johnson et al, even though (like many others) I realised they were on borrowed time, I didn't think "dead man walking". which is what goes through my mind every time I see Starmer.

Thank you 😊.
I didn't rest when I should have and ended up with pleurisy. Not pleasant! I'm over the worst, thank goodness.

Are you picking up your dh today? Good luck getting to the airport ❤️

Bloody hell. I hope you're on the mend.

The lack of confidence in employing people is damning. I'm sure the Labour fans will find some way to blame the Tories though. 🙄

EmeraldRoulette · 31/01/2026 11:16

@TheNuthatch oh my God, that's awful
I hope you recover ASAP

@DancingFerret how is your DH feeling?

BTW, I know there's some stuff about sanctions on MPs with China. Does anyone know what that was about? It was clearly an exercise in renewing some diplomatic relations. Can't see what the benefit is to us though.

Thanks for the share. Makes a lot of sense, and nobody is chanting "Farage is a wanker" at football matches afaik.

Thank you Emerald 😊

I'm behind with the news, but it seems Starmer announced that sanctions were lifted on those who had been banned from entering China after criticising the CCP. Later it emerged that it didn't apply to all of them.
There was a story about a Lib Dem MP who was refused entry to Hong Kong when she tried to visit her newborn Grandchild. She wasn't even aware that she had been sanctioned iirc.
Of course we're all supposed to believe that China are good eggs really, and much better allies than the USA - not.

Oh, gosh, pleurisy, poor you. That's the pits. I hope you get well soon. 💐
More evidence of us paying the price for a labour government as businesses lose confidence in hiring.

It’s hard to regain when people feel as they do about Starmer. Mn has odd pockets of Starmer love ins but really it could be terminal.

Thank you for asking. DH is feeling okay, I think, but I won't know for sure until he's home later on today.

He's one of those people who'll tell you he's fine even when he's not. To me, "fine" is an acronym for Frustrated Insecure Neurotic and Emotional...but that's just me.

redange · 31/01/2026 11:43

Sorry miss posting..

Anyway, Starmer was is usual disgrace in China the man shames the UK whenever he sets foot outside no 10. Starmer, traveled 5000 miles for a reduction in Whiskey tariffs and to enable the CCP to take the 'piss' . This, by inviting previously banned MP's to China.

Yeah, I saw that. I posted on your thread in the middle of the night (I'd been out and even a modest amount of booze has me awake in the early hours nowadays). And so it was in my actives when I tried to post the employment data above.

I hope you can sift through the responses to find something useful among it all. I don't know what people get out of being arseholes but that seems to be all some posters can contribute.

There's a hardcore % of posters who seem to go to every thread to either:

a. Be an utter twat towards the OP; or
b. Announce they're offended by something totally innocuous.

Fucking idiots, the lot of them!

I've struggled for years with the same 'wake up early after modest amounts of alcohol' issue. It's so annoying!

I’m not sure I’ve seen it but there’s a reason this thread exists. To get away from that stuff.

DH had pleurisy once following a cold. Jakers he scared me in the middle of the night fighting for breath with a pain in his side.

Starmer is an embarrassment now. I'm angry because he's truly the worst plank in Europe, leadership wise. I can't believe Labour MPs aren't cringing too.

Most of them are so low quality, they probably think he's great! (I include my MP in that; total nodding dog yes man.)

Low quality. That is a great description.

It describes so many politicians of today, and it certainly describes our current government.

SeekingAlpha · 31/01/2026 13:48

Seconding all your other besties @TheNuthatch - very glad you are back. Sincerely hope you are feeling better.

The MP salary has never been better. Yet the select committees have never chosen worse applicants. It's bizarre. Our labour MP ex councillor is being polite as thick as mince. A harmless woman who unfortunately is now very unwell with cancer. But honestly isn't missed. Having got in as an MP she's afraid of her own shadow.

Fauchon · 31/01/2026 14:33

It really hacks me off the stance that Reeves is taking on the student loan thresholds. It doesn't affect my DC but it still makes me furious. Martin Lewis has called her out on the ethics of it and asked her to reconsider but of course she is doubling down. I can't actually watch her talk any more. She is so robotic. It beggars belief that someone so incompetent can be in that role.

EmeraldRoulette · 31/01/2026 14:33

Well, maybe it's a plus

I'm the sort of person, in that situation if you asked me how I was, I would say "I'm really freaked out and upset and I need all the cuddles RIGHT NOW" and be in floods of tears... trust me, nobody ever knows how to cope with that 😂

Thank you to posters who explained to me about China and diplomats. So I am correct that there's not really anything in this for the UK.

Januaryescape · 31/01/2026 15:37

Agree @Fauchon when you’ve got graduates repaying loans on a shade more than the minimum wage the system is a joke. Good on Martin Lewis - another expert who has had enough of them.

Januaryescape · 31/01/2026 15:37

@TheNuthatch i really hope you have got your feet up! it’s a bad time of year.
