Another Reform supporter posted this. Eta it means that himself and yourself, Lalia, support ICE.

Why do reform want to turn London into a frozen wasteland? Are they trying to tell us they intend to trash the joint?

PickAChew · 26/01/2026 00:04

Cheguevarahamster · 25/01/2026 22:04

Here it is. Its very bizarre. What does this even mean? I know its a riff on the Trump meme, but that made no sense either.

She wants to turn London into a frozen wasteland? The bridge looks quite redundant.

Mumsnet being mumsnet, I hadn't seen your post when I replied!

PickAChew · 26/01/2026 00:08

Grimey is still wanging on about the evils of net zero so perhaps he has the same vision for County Durham. That would be an easier task than London, admittedly.

placemats · 26/01/2026 00:19

Larry the cat clearly agrees with me.

Neil Duncan-Jordan MP said the "authoritarian factionalism of the Labour right is tearing us apart" and "this stitch-up puts control before country"

From Sky News analysis of Andy Burnham not being approved to stand in the by election.

Honestly, Neil, have a word with yourself. Do you not think the left factions are trying to tear the party apart?

TirednessOnToast · 26/01/2026 01:49

No tax sorry, but glad to have found you. I think KS has done well these last few weeks on the International stage so I certainly don't want a leadership challenge right now.

Thanks for the new thread Duncin.
I think our PM digging in shows that inner core of strength and back bone that he has.
He is doing the right thing, imo, and whatever his options the press rage on.
They must live in a different world to the rest of us mortals if they cannot see the dangers we are in.
pic is Standing with Giants installation Fort Nelson. For our brave servicemen and women, we thank you. The best of the best .

Do you visit Fort Nelson?

I live locally and grew up 10 minutes walk over the M27 from it!

Theyve done some great tributes over the years.

Its such a pity, good news swamped by negativity.

As i suggested, every 'paper headline is "Starmer scared/weak etc etc" & now a letter doing the rounds on the back benches, calling for the decision to be reversed... so yet another U-Turn will be reported.... & i bet it is reversed :(

Well done Andy Burnham

Imho this state of affairs in 100% on him, he should have stood in 2024 if he feels he is the best man for the job. which again, imho he is not.

Karistyleaftea · 26/01/2026 07:23

@itsgettingweird I did go to Fort Nelson to see the installation.
It was really moving , the letters home had me in tears and the silhouettes look incredible , such a perfect site for it.
The Fort is a really interesting place to visit,
and yes, we do live in the area so we are possibly “MN neighbours ! “

Nadia Whittome on R4 this morning fretting that the risk is reform will get the Gorton by election.

If you're in Manchester how would feel about the prospect of you being used as a rubber stamp for Burnham to begin his re ascent of the labour precipice.

She's assuming that he would actually win it when the area seems split between greens and reform.

It also doesn't answer who would run for the Manchester mayoral election, which if held, would likely go Reform instead.

(And I suspect if Burnham did become leader, she's be one of the first to complain about how he's He's Betrayed Labour Values or whatever once actual policies start being implemented)

PandoraSocks · 25/01/2026 18:13

I think Starmer has had a good few weeks recently managing the orange one and this will overshadow that news somewhat

I agree. Burnham let his ego get the better of him to the detriment of the government and Starmer.

Another in agreement, I’m pissed of with Andy Burnham it’s unnecessary noise he has created.

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2026 09:34

It keeps the BBC busy and away from their rather awful reporting on Minneapolis (Ros Atkins excepted)

I agree with all of this. Even if the NEC reverses its decision, Burnham might not win. He has treated the electorate with contempt and might pay the price for that. What a circus he's created. Farage will be delighted.

I see that those people who shout at hotels are now shouting at an old army base.

An army base that housed asylum seekers late 70s, early 80s.

Protests are backed by Advance

Of course they are. The wrong kind of immigrants now. 🙄

Some of the shenanigans going on

''In private, allies of Burnham in Westminster are looking at ways to overturn the decision, including the possibility of trying to convene an emergency meeting of the whole 40-strong NEC, which includes unions not represented on the executive. However, one source said they would do this only if they were “sure they had the numbers to reverse the decision”.

Evenstar · 26/01/2026 10:16

I drove past an asylum hotel near me that is being run by the MOD and is only housing Afghan families who have a family member who helped the British in Afghanistan. Hung right outside the gate (upside down) was a St George’s flag with Save Our Kids on it 🤢

I actually shed a few tears I feel ashamed of what this country has become.

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2026 10:19

A lot of the political commentators on my SM feeds are laying in to Starmer over Burnham, the comments however are far more balanced
