I do wonder if team Trump had a hand in Mandelsons appointment - suggesting it to a Starmer who wanted to please ?

And now the balloon has gone up, guess who's going under the bus ?

This is my thought, too. Mandelson was so obviously appointed because he could "handle" the tangerine tyrant and, unfortunately, it has backfired massively as it's become clear that he was sharing more than words of admiration with that circle of friends and associates.

Many a true word said in jest.

DoJ had to take down thousands of files because they identified victims, human error they claimed. Yet they managed not make these mistakes with the perpetrators.

Sending a message for when it happens again. This is what will happen if you dare to complain.

I don’t think it’s as much ‘happens again’ as for wherever it’s happening now. Someone will have filled Epstein’s position…

It's alright Pandora, it's more the media rhetoric on this than anything else.

QT line up
Joining Fiona on the panel are Emma Reynolds, Julia Lopez, Munira Wilson, Oli Dugmore, and Zia Yusuf

Hopefully Yusuf will be grilled over Kent's Doge

Hopefully he might be grilled on any links Farage had with Epstein. They are remaining fairly tight lipped for them about this which is usually a signal they have something to hide.

It’s not going to happen though.

That is so true. There were Epsteins long before Epstein, and they will continue. The whole system is corrupt and rotten to the core. Always has been.

cardibach · 05/02/2026 11:24

Starmer speaking now at a previously arranged engagement to do with Pride in Place but obviously now having to talk about Mandelson. BBC have Mason commenting live on the app so that will be unedifying.

The other part of all this is, as someone pointed out on another thread, that Starmer (and others if they had the same knowledge) thought it OK to appoint someone who was friendly with a convicted sex offender. The suffering of Epstein's victims seems to have meant nothing to anyone.

It is all really depressing.

Trouble is that the US had elected one as President and we needed someone who could understand his mindset.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 12:27

Farage has appointed former Tory Dan Thomas as his Welsh leader, he also welcomed former Tory James Evans to the party.

”Reform ready to rule ?” With LK

Oh - so disappointing I can’t watch BBC - I’ll try to bear it!
But well he doesn’t need to be personally does he - he’s got the Tory cabinet there to do it for him?
Though I thought I saw somewhere he has said Reform need more time before they’re ready to govern - which puzzled me as there’s always those bot induced rumours of a GE soon and I thought this was for Reform benefit.
I’m not always a fan of all Labour policies and there are some issues with comms - and obviously this latest misjudgment - but I can’t bear the thoughts of Reform winning or Tory/Reform but also the election, the cost, the instability etc etc - I don’t think we actually need to think about it for a couple of years do we - and I don’t think we should have it rammed down our throats all the time - why can’t we just let the government govern instead of wanting it like a live reality show contest - changing PM, changing gov’t - does no one any good and not the country nor the economy either.
The people voted and Labour won - surprisingly who seem to not grasp this!
But I think we used to basically accept that who won was in for a few years and it seems that is no longer the case - and this stuff has been ongoing way before the Mandy affair.

Good. That will do Reform few favours in Wales, hopefully.

There are an awful lot of threads starting on MN complaining about how shit the current government is, demanding Starmer goes and/or demanding an immediate election.
Curious that the OP in each case nearly always seems to be a new or very recently joined poster...

Although when you think about online warfare, flooding the zone, subliminal messaging, it doesn't seem curious at all.

There's also a bit of a theme of apparently not understanding how elections /governments actually work

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 15:21

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats @DuncinToffee I have noticed all this too.

Nobbystyles · 05/02/2026 15:22

Keir Starmer has full confidence in his chief of staff Morgan McSweeney, Downing Street has said.

Yikes.
