I think you are probably right, sadly.

God knows how all this will end. Hopefully not with Farage as PM.😱

Well the way will certainly be paved for Farage if Starmer doesn’t step down. This one isn’t going to go away.

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 09:26

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 09:17

Can we just stop this Farage nonsense. The media does enough of the pushing .

Just look at Kent, their flagship.

And as an aside, I think Norbert is a good name for a dog.

Sorry Duncin, but I think we have to be realistic. This mess is a gift to Farage.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 09:28

Gift to Farage, paving the way for Farage

Well if that is the case then we deserve a Reform government.

I just keep thinking of Profumo. Look how that ended up. But I will not mention the F word again today.😇

I wonder who is on QT tonight? That will be an interesting one.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 10:05

It's alright Pandora, it's more the media rhetoric on this than anything else.

QT line up
Joining Fiona on the panel are Emma Reynolds, Julia Lopez, Munira Wilson, Oli Dugmore, and Zia Yusuf

Hopefully Yusuf will be grilled over Kent's Doge

Yusuf again? He was on fairly recently and was really rude to a member of the audience.

Karistyleaftea · 05/02/2026 10:14

I think someone will go today but not Sir Keir Starmer.
We must have stability imo.
The vetting process either did not work enough , or decisions were made in the light of world affairs which are desperately worrying at the moment.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 10:17

As Jane pointed out, Mandelson was appointed because of his Epstein links not despite.

Even Nige called it a shrewd appointment at the time.

Farage: We are keen that Starmer remains, at least until the local elections…

LOL.

Karistyleaftea · 05/02/2026 10:21

I watched the Farage documentary last night .

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 10:21

Farage is named 38 times in the files. As is Candy, Reform’s treasurer. With Bannon. And Brexit.

Maybe I'm an outlier here, but I don't think Starmer should go at the moment. There was a fuck up, possibly his, but has he swept it under the carpet like the previous 3 PMs? No. Has he tried to hide it? No. Is he passing the back? No.

What he is doing is being open and transparent. We are all human, and we are all capable of putting our trust in the wrong person, particularly is Starmer is being honest when he says Mandelson lied during vetting. Our parliament was built around honour, and honesty, and has seemingly little recourse for when these values fail

I'll wait for the documents, and the evidence and the facts and next steps before calling for his head.

I agree. Baying for blood after an error just encourages people to lie and cover up.

cardibach · 05/02/2026 10:26

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 08:55

The thing that might bring Starmer down is that he said yesterday he knew Mandelson had remained friends with Epstein after Epstein's first conviction. I suppose a lot will hinge on what Mandelson said about that.

I'd actually like Starmer to stay.

We all knew that at the time of the appointment though. As Badenoch’s said, it was ‘on Google’. There was a bit of chat about it but nobody called for his resignation over it at the time.

cardibach · 05/02/2026 10:29

BIossomtoes · 05/02/2026 09:05

Sorry but I think it’s the end for him. If there was a strong track record it would be different but there have been so many missteps. It looks as if Starmer’s lost the support of the parliamentary party now and that’s a fatal wound. Unfortunately I think he’ll cling on as stubbornly as Corbyn did when ideally he should resign and retain some dignity.

This may be true but I don’t care about his dignity. I care that someone who is making good links internationally in such a delicate time carries on with that work rather than us having t9 start all over again gaining the trust of world leaders.

Did we? That is the part I am confused about. If it was public knowledge then that makes a lot of people as guilty as Starmer. Like Gove, who praised the appointment.

The dog that isn't barking is WTF did our security services know and pass on to Starmer ????

Call me naive, but I imagined that all and any senior government appointees are subject to some sort of vetting. Now if that vetting did not throw these things up then obviously Starmer could not have known. But the lack of discussion is telling.

It's a similar situation for the royal protection team. How did they not realise they were ferrying a nonce around the world ? Or did they, but no one cared ?

I'm always suspicious when no one is asking the questions I would ask.

Yes I’m sure I remember talking about him staying in Epstein’s NYC flat while Epstein was inside. His links to that whole disgusting group were the reason he was appointed really. An ‘in ‘ with Trump. Someone he would trust because they both had shit on each other.
At least that’s my recollection, and seems to be Badenoch’s too.

There as a lot of discussion if the vetting and what was said and how much of it can be released in PMQs. Starmer says Mandelson’s lied repeatedly. Which wouldn’t be a shocker…
As for the royal flights, I think they must have known. ‘Just following orders’ innit?

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 10:35

The other part of all this is, as someone pointed out on another thread, that Starmer (and others if they had the same knowledge) thought it OK to appoint someone who was friendly with a convicted sex offender. The suffering of Epstein's victims seems to have meant nothing to anyone.

It is all really depressing.

That part is, indeed, disgusting.
Acting On everything in the files, even just everything we’ve been allowed to see, would basically collapse Western govenrment as far as I can see. Way too many up to their necks in it - especially the right wing groups in a direct line to Epstein via Bannon, getting support because it helped finance Epstein and his disgusting circle.

I do wonder if team Trump had a hand in Mandelsons appointment - suggesting it to a Starmer who wanted to please ?

And now the balloon has gone up, guess who's going under the bus ?

Yep.

Btw, did you know that photo of him with Victoria Giuffre that AMW insisted is fake? There is now proof that it isn't.
