I’d personally draw the line at healthcare professionals, including paramedics.

The ECHR is imcompatible with a UK style ICE

As for a 'proper' Brexit, you won, get over it.

I suspect that without the ECHR, the number of countries that can be found to take any returned immigrants will be vanishingly small. Unless the UK bribes them.

That is Reform's policy, pay Afghanistan and Iran to take back refugees.

The Daily Express has launched its campaign- ‘to give us a proper brexit’ - backed by Farage, Kemi, Boris, Smogg
and involving leaving ECHR, taking fishing waters back, slashing EU regulations- in response to Starmer’s ‘betrayal’
I hope to god it never happens any of the backers get in power but be interesting to see how they explain that they too won’t be delivering a ‘proper Brexit’

Well ...

Should have posted this yesterday. Happy St Bridget's Day and Imbolc. The returning of the light.

I remember making St Bridget's crosses in primary school with my mum, who was a teacher there. Happy memories.

This has really made me laugh.

So the Oven Ready Deal wasn’t actually Brexit then?

Why did Johnson, Badenoch and Farage all present it as such?

The fishing rights was agreed in 2020 under Johnson.

Why else did Farage stand down in the 2019 election if not to get Johnson’s deal done?

Did they lie? Surely not.

Will they tell the same lies next time around - absofuckinglutely.

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2026 12:25

Labour Party says disciplinary action against Peter Mandelson was already underway as result of Epstein affair.

No input from Diana from beyond the grave?

A serious campaign from a serious newspaper that no one takes seriously.

Apparently he called Boris Johnson just before resigning. Presumably to take advice on how to dodge consequences.

Well he would certainly get good advice 😉🤦🏼‍♀️

I do think as far as investigations they should do police ones but also agree that until that’s done equally by the USA it’s all a bit of a mess.

I think it’s to avoid Labour having to do an enquiry? But I may be guessing completely wrong and getting 5 from 2+2!!!!

I heard Reeves on the radio asserting that degree courses shouldn’t be funded by taxpayers. In the case of healthcare professionals, whose training is entirely for the public good, I fundamentally disagree with her. I’d strongly favour their loans being interest free and written off completely after a specified period of NHS service. It might help stop the haemorrhage of expensively trained people out of the UK.

Absolutely agree.

If we want retention in education and healthcare we need to make staying in the uk once qualified attractive.

I would have a tiered system. So many years you get a reduction, so many more you ge further reduction and after X amount of time the rest is written off. Calculated so that you never pay more than the actual loan value if you do the full service requirement.

Mandelson needs to resign from the Lords. Mandelson shared government emails with Epstein, files suggest, as calls grow for full investigation - BBC News

And if these allegations are true - he should be prosecuted.

We're now looking at Official Secrets Act ?

DuncinToffee · 02/02/2026 17:02

FYI

debate taking place in House of Commons about Epstein-Mandelson right now

I hope so. Peter Mandelson is not going to be attending the House of Lords so removal of the title has no practical impact, whereas a criminal charge would.

If Peter Mandelson went to jail after a conviction, there would be a lot of celebration.

PandoraSocks · 02/02/2026 18:22

Hand it over to the police. Let the slippery one squirm.

Zonder · 02/02/2026 19:47

Mandelson has always been a dodgy bloke. This is worse than I expected though.

Efacsen · 02/02/2026 19:56

More Mandelson

Met Police says it will review "number" of reports relating to alleged misconduct in a public office

“Following this release and subsequent media reporting, the Met has received a number of reports relating to alleged misconduct in public office. The reports will all be reviewed to determine if they meet the criminal threshold for investigation
