SNP and Reform report Mandelson to the police.

SNP and Reform report Mandelson to the police.

I think that is fair enough. Shame No.10 didn't get there first.

If (and it is a big if) Mandelson is prosecuted and found guilty, could it bring down Starmer?

placemats · 02/02/2026 20:07

Those involved in Brexit are now involved in the Epstein files.

It's always good to keep the powder dry.

No to your question. It's all kicking off. Reform really has a nerve - toast is served.

The Daily Express has launched its campaign- ‘to give us a proper brexit’ - backed by Farage, Kemi, Boris, Smogg
and involving leaving ECHR, taking fishing waters back, slashing EU regulations- in response to Starmer’s ‘betrayal’
I hope to god it never happens any of the backers get in power but be interesting to see how they explain that they too won’t be delivering a ‘proper Brexit’

I saw that headline this morning and wondered why would the Daily no so Express do that.

It's all coming out in the wash now.

PandoraSocks · 02/02/2026 20:42

Imagine if these results were reversed. The Reformites would be howling for Starmer's head on a spike, however tentative the connections.

Reform's reporting to the police is all very "Mii-iisss, he did it, Miss." while they have black marker pen all over their hands.

Given how long it takes for anyone to come to trial (thanks to Justice Secretaries such as Liz Truss and Chris Grayling), I doubt Keir Starmer would still be Prime Minister by then.

Very fair point!

Reform does like reporting other parties/politicians to the police. Ditto threatening to sue them.

I still cannot believe that Truss and Grayling were Justice Secretaries of State.

Emily Thornbury digging a huge hole for herself on newsnight by saying as terrible as these links to Epstein was, mandelson did a brilliant job as ambassador to the US and there's been no complaints

That's not my take away from tonight. It's rare that MPs agree on this program, and nobody was defending Mandelson.

No she didn't.

Lalgarh · 03/02/2026 00:23

Oh sure she started off with the hand wringing eg
.https://nitter.net/BBCNewsnight/status/2018463635526345092#m, but towards the end she was literally saying that no one had complained about his performance as ambassador

Thank you for the new thread Duncin & all contributors some early daffodils tax from me.

Beautiful

MaybeNotBob · 03/02/2026 01:19

Ooh, we have a plopper. Who presumably doesn't want to discuss the number of times Farage has appeared in the Epstein files...

pointythings · 03/02/2026 07:16

Lalgargh is a stalwart from the Trump threads, definitely not a plopper.

I wondered this, as posters have said, not as a result of a trial but just the stuff around Mandelson and what Starmer knew about Mandelson and what he should have known.

Perhaps John Prescott was a better judge of character.

BIossomtoes · 03/02/2026 07:39

Is there no depth too low for him?

Even you have agreed your first post on this was a lie. Now saying Thornbury said nobody had complained about him as ambassador is quite a different thing from her saying he was brilliant. Which she didn't.

Don't lie. The truth is enough.

I’ve just watched it and that description is a travesty of the interview.

Lalgarh · 03/02/2026 09:06

Agree to disagree then. The contrast with Stephen Flynn of SNP who was straight down the line "he needs to be removed from the House of Lords" etc became more marked as the interview went on.

R4 said this morning when Mandy was appointed that Lammy said he was welcome back. I'm sorry but this is really not looking good if Starmer took the decision to appoint him, when it was noted he wasn't interviewed by the select cttee which from what I heard was the norm for ambassadorial appointments
