A local candidate, rather than someone parachuted in, is definitely the best move.

Isn't the test now whether you've delivered pizzas in the area ?

countrygirl99 · 31/01/2026 18:08

@dontcallmelen no chance. I've also made a formal complaint to mum's GP surgery today because their admin is as useful as a chocolate fireguard. The joys of having a mum with Alzheimer's.
On a lighter note youngest brother visited mum this afternoon. At the beginning of December he had to replace a broken electric fire, carefully sourcing one as near identical to the old one as possible. Important to know DB is 62. Today mum told him that she just called the insurance company and told them her fire had broken down and they sent a lovely young man round with a new one.

I expect that news to be either derided or greeted with stony silence in some quarters. It looks as if it will be in full swing just in time for the next GE - shockingly bad timing for some.

PandoraSocks · 31/01/2026 18:32

I note the spiteful litle caveat that it has little to do with Labour government.

Economy is crap=all Labour government's fault.
Economy recovers=nothing to do with Labour government, just good luck.

It was the Telegraph, what did you expect?

persephonia · 31/01/2026 18:39

Part of the Telegraphs position is shilling for AI. AI will make a positive difference to the economy but it also has the potential to lead for more job losses in the UK than the rest of the EU if not carefully managed. So that economic growth is forecast regardless is a good sign.

You can pretty much guarantee that if AI boosts productivity without massively impacting job losses then all the growth/productivity will be laid at AIs door and any roll the government had in avoiding the negative effects will be ignored. Or even blamed for inhibiting even greater growth.

To be fair, that was what was advised when Labour won. Ignore the naysayers while you are getting on with it (the majority helps). Then come out swinging closer to the election.

However given the (apparently) rapidly sinking IQ of the Great British Public, ably assisted by the tabloids of doom, I can easily people saying that Labour deliberately improved the economy just to spite Reform.

Remember this is the country where people didn't care about the economy when they voted Brexit.

Farage is playing 3D chess. By constantly agitating from the side lines he forced Labour to improve the economy rather than continue with their initial plan to deliberately destroy it. (Because they hate this country.) Its the same 3D chess that Trump is playing when he threatens to invade America's allies and therefore forces them to improve defence.
Just think with Trump and Farage in power at the same time we could be entering a new golden age for the UK, the US and indeed the world. You don't get this because your IQ is too mid range.

On the day the majority of U.K. papers focus on AMW for their front page the Fail manages to squash that news down to ensure the main splash is on Raynor’s £1m war chest to depose Starmer!
The express ignores AMW to benefit shame/complain.
Yes there’s other news than AMW - but choosing those!
Btw - not self shaming with my newspapers of choice - just looked at newspaper headlines on BBC news site.

Ironic that someone with no spine is "Britains backbone".

Are we sure he didn't mean arsehole ? I mean the are in the same region.

Mandelson is now claiming the documents released re Epstein that show he received payments from him in 2003 and 2004 "have not been verified" and he has no recollection of ever getting money from him

It's even weirder because his husband received money for osteopathy training but his husband never actually was an osteopath. So was the osteopathy course just a made up reason for Epstein to send a cash donation. But if so why the weirdly specific list of expenses "anatomical models" and so on.
Im not saying that Mandleson's husband was involved in abuse or anything. But the choice of words seems deliberately a bit skeevy.jist for the sake of it..which is bleurrgh.

That is very slippery of him. No recollection is not a denial, is it?

The photos of Andrew are really disturbing. Wtf was going on? I hope the girl/young woman in them is OK.

Mandelson is dodgy as fuck

Just another email

https://bsky.app/profile/peterjukes.bsky.social/post/3mds7urbfes2o

I find it mildly odd that a master of evil like Epstein (who was worried the NoTW were hacking his phone) was more than happy to use an at-gmail email address that all and sundry at the Chocolate Factory could read.

Unless they were in on it ?

Rupert Lowe has been posting about his rape gang enquiry - which I’m not totally sure what it is precisely as he says it’s his specifically, I assume linked to grooming gangs, which no I’m not countenancing them whatsoever - but within his own words on the topic, it is as if Epstein’s huge and powerful grooming gang full of rich white men has escaped his notice entirely.
