Also hoping you are OK @countrygirl99 . Feel free to vent if needed!

countrygirl99 · 31/01/2026 11:02

Thanks everyone. A deer ran out in front of me so close there was no way I could miss it. I'm fine but the front of my car is a mess. The deer disappeared into the woods but it must be badly injured. Car is a 13 plate Fiesta so I doubt the insurance company will think it worth repairing. Got 3new tyres as well. At least I was too knackered last night to fill up the tank on the way home.
DH is suitably remorseful after a blast from me. He tends to go into a complete flap and rely on me to be sensible when he has a crisis so why he thinks I need a saviour is beyond me.

Oh, I have one of those. Glad you're OK. 💐

I heard James O’Brien discussing Kemi has told her own MPs if they don’t want to out reform reform they should leave (paraphrasing) and obviously those who want to go to Reform as well. He was doing a phone in re homeless normal Tories.
I’m not totally sure what this is about - as in what Kemi has said as I only heard a few minutes - does anyone here know?

.

That reminds me, did Badenoch obey Reform's demand that she apologise for the statement about Braverman's mental health?

The correct course of action, after the event, is ....nada. Let your silence do the heavy lifting and Suellas total inaction complete the tale. She was a shit Home Secretary, and she is a shit politician.

Karistyleaftea · 31/01/2026 12:06

@countrygirl99 Sorry to hear that and hope things will get sorted out soon.
I was told recently that if your car is a write off sometimes they allow you to "buy it back " but the insurance for this was hugely problematic, according to my friend,
I just thought I would mention it but definitely not "Wo mansplaining," sorry!
When we lived in Norfolk Deer running out was a regular occurrence unfortunately.
That pic of Braverman and Fararge together gives me the shivers as I have had the misfortune to be inches away from both of them on separate occasions , together I would have run a mile.

My sister hit a deer and killed it. The car can be repaired though. It's not an SUV. I always heed deer sign warnings, but they run out so quickly. 💐 @countrygirl99

countrygirl99 · 31/01/2026 12:59

I'm always cautious on that stretch of road, especially early morning and evening, as deer are a daily sighting but this one was so close. I feel sorry for the poor thing as it probably hid up horribly injured. A couple of days ago a red kite nearly few straight into my windscreen, so close I instinctively ducked! I'm beginning to wonder if the wildlife around here hates me for some reason.

Piggywaspushed · 31/01/2026 13:23

I have only just got my wing mirror fixed. It was totalled by a pigeon.

BestIsWest · 31/01/2026 13:23

@countrygirl99 glad you are ok. I hear you on the DH. Someone hit my car in a car park last year and drove off. I had photos and video evidence and a witness and managed the whole claim myself much to DH's disappointment. He was just itching to take over.

placemats · 31/01/2026 13:38

Angelika Stogia, Labour, has been chosen to stand for Gorton and Denton.

countrygirl99 · 31/01/2026 13:39

@BestIsWest he's out for the day and I've just spent a couple of hours looking at autotrader. I will let him look at the cars I've saved because I find car buying totally boring so I'll allow him to do the grunt work. I've just saved models I think will fit my requirements of not too big, cheap to run but with a boot the dogs fit in.

My wing mirror, driver's side, was totalled by a rogue wheelie bin rolling down a driveway on a blustery Saturday morning. Had to cancel my trip to St Albans that weekend.

Men do like to solve our problems, even when not asked. Sounds like my DH who often needs to be reminded that I don’t need rescuing. Glad you're ok.

Oh, good. I was hoping it would be her. I like what I have read about her. No doubt the rw press will already be digging, though.

I see her Wiki page has been deluged with requests for deletion. I wonder who’s doing that?

itsgettingweird · 29/01/2026 15:49

Yes it is and I’m already over 2026.

4 deaths and a cancer diagnosis already this year of friends and colleagues.

it’s been fucking shit tbh

Only just seen this. I'm so sorry.

A local candidate, rather than someone parachuted in, is definitely the best move.

cardibach · 31/01/2026 17:14

@countrygirl99 glad it was just the metal. One of my teachers (when I was at school in the dark ages) was hospitalised by a deer jumping a hedge into the road and also straight through his windscreen. Must have been terrifying. Glad you are ok.

Excellent. SM attacks have all been ‘they won’t bother to find a local person they’ll parachute in a loyal suit’.

Agree a sensible decision, really hope she is successful.
@countrygirl99 you are having a week of it hope you have a restful weekend 💐
